Malibu

  • 68,000 miles
I was driving on the highway, going 60mph. The car suddenly slowed down to about 5mph and started violently shaking, and I had to quickly pull to the shoulder lane, "reduced engine speed" appeared on the dashboard, along with "ESC traction control". restarted my car and the light went off. About 15 mins later, it did the same thing. This is extremely dangerous for myself and other people around me.

Malibu 4-cyl

  • 96,000 miles
Freeway driving speed of 65 mph. Turned off freeway on to a 50 mph road. Engine light, service ESC light and traction control lights all came on. Car went into "limp mode" and reduced driving to only 20 mph. Drove 5 miles in limp mode to get home. Got a "P1235" code. After leaving car for an hour and restarting, it drive normally but, check engine light is still on and the P1235 code is stored. Took vehicle to a mechanic and car drove as normal. He thinks it is a button on the gas pedal or a throttle body. Both are expensive options and should be under some warranty. This vehicle is only 7 years old.

  • 110,000 miles
2010 Malibu experiences fluctuations in power/ rpms when trying to accelerate. I have taken the vehicle to get looked at severals times, but mechanic could not get the car to replicate issue. Not sure if its related to the fuel system, transmission, or motor. Either way, no one can diagnose this problem. When issue occurs, the vehicle acts sluggish (does not want to go) and bounces between 2 & 3 on my RPM gauge. It's as if I would push the gas then let off the pedal (repeatedly). At first this only happened when going up a hill, but has become more frequent, and is now happening regardless of grade. It is a definate safety issue, as this has occurred when crossing an intersection and merging onto a highway. It does however seem to be resolved if I press the gas all the way down (rpms go up to 4-5 on gauge, then the car finally goes) I have seen many complaints about this online, but no resolution. The number of miles the car has does not seem to be a factor, as this has happened to others with this car being brand new (based on other complaints).this has been happening intermittently for months. This is my first Chevy- bought last year. Seems to have a ton of electrical issues. Bought the car unknowingly with an open recall, tire sensor light comes on intermittently for no reason, car suddenly stalled on the highway and would not start a week after purchased, stereo loses power, power steering is intermittent, the passenger door sometimes fails to open and/or close, the driver side door loses power intermittently, the exhaust is rusting, ect. I did buy a warranty with this car, but being that nothing can be diagnosed, its a waste of money! I still owe over $8000 on this car, and paid blue book value! -Chevrolet totally misleads their customers. Never again oh, and I did recieve a recall letter about my power steering, but the dealership says there is no recall.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving at any speed, the brake lights remained illuminated. When the brake pedal was depressed, the brake lights turned off. The contact stated that "service ESC" and "traction control is off " appeared on the instrument panel. Also, the steering and accelerator pedal felt heavy and the vehicle slowed down. The issue recurred numerous times. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14V252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control) and was repaired in 2014. The failure recurred. The dealer and manufacturer were notified. The vehicle was not repaired again. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

Malibu

  • 103,000 miles
Repairs were completed a couple of years ago on this vehicle from recall id 14V252000, however, my vehicle has recently experienced the similar symptoms as described on the recall. The service traction, service ESC and ESC off warnings display on the dashboard unpredictably. This happens whether the vehicle is idling or in motion. When the warnings pop up the brake lights are illuminated without depressing the pedal, the brake lights turn off briefly when depressed, however, when the brake pedal is released, the brake lights come back on and remains on. Also when the warnings are displayed, the cruise control disengages, and I'm able to shift out of park without depressing the brake. Turning the key off resets the warnings, but the warnings and symptoms return again - sometimes immediately and other times it may take hours of driving. I'm concerned that the original recall repairs did not correct the problem.

First repair, airbag service required. The dealership claimed it was a loose wire. 2nd repair, ESC maintenance required, traction service required, engine power reduced, vehicle will not leave neutral. If gas is applied vehicle jumps and shakes. 3rd is same as 2nd and 4th visit is same as previous except when I received ownership of the vehicle it could not make it out of the parking lot. After mentioning the lemon law the dealership is now trying to blame this technically 5th visit on an ignition coil even though ESC maintenance message was displayed with traction control, engine pwr reduced, the vehocle was still shakig, and now the check engine light is on when it wasn't before.

In 2014, General Motors' recall #13036 was serviced by Chevrolet dealership who said problem was corrected. In June 2016 the problem has reoccurred. While in motion the brake lights come on without pressing the brake peddle; the cruise control disengages; and disablement of traction control and electronic stability which could increase the risk of a crash. All occur while vehicle is in motion on city streets and highways.

Right now I have the service ESC and service traction light on again for the 3rd time. I took each time to Chevy classic in grapevine tx and they told me no codes the 1st time, took it to clay cooley in irving--light came on then no codes they showed. Today 4-15=16 light came on again and I took it to classic Chevy and they found 3 codes this time. They say I will have to pay for this! I should not since there was an open recall on 5/14/2014 for 2010 Malibu's. my car is doing this now !@!!@ it needs to be fixed at no charge to me!! I feel like this is the most dangerous car on the road for me and my daughter. I don't want to be a statistic if we have a car crash and it was all because Chevy kept making excuses to not fix my crap car for me. The other recall was the brake system not illuminating I got that letter a little too late. Someone rear ended me in Oct 2012 while I was stopped at a red light. Maybe those stupid back brake lights were not working then!!!!!! someone at classic or clay cooolye Chevy needs to fix this ESC light on my car and fix all the recalls for free. I also have an eps recall letter that was sent to me but someone at Chevy told me the light has to come on for them to fix it. This is ridiculous. My car needs to be fixed for all these problems it has no matter if the light is on or not. But the light is on for service ESC and traction right now!@ GM or Chevy needs to pay for it and fix this car. The consumer stated the dealer did not completely fix the problem. They only lubricated and she continued to experience problems with the brakes, service light and ESC light. Also, the front axle was leaking.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 65 mph, the check engine, electronic stability control, and traction control warning lights illuminated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle began to jerk but stopped at higher speeds. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not found. On another occasion, the vehicle jerked before it stalled. The vehicle failed to start and was towed to the contact's residence. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14V252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

2010 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to ESC light continuously illuminating and trac control switch issues. The consumer stated after the part was replaced, the ESC light illuminated again. The consumer continued to report the trac service light was still displayed. The dealer stated it was a possible BCM internal failure. The consumer received a recall notice shortly thereafter regarding an issue with the BCM connection system which could result I a malfunction. One of the symptoms of the problem, as stated in the notice was traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features, if equipped may be disabled. Brake lights were working in reverse after recall repairs were done so Chevy charged me full price for diagnostics because they said that the recall repairs were already done, so there was nothing they could do. We replaced brake switch. A month later problem persisted, Chevy dealership charged $50 for relearning brake position, even though that was all supposed to have been fixed in recall repairs. Brake lights are still not working properly and the traction control/ESC light is on, and cruise control doesn't work. I am now taking it back to dealership and they are charging me an additional $50 just to take another look at it. I feel I shouldn't be charged for any of this since it all should have been taken care of during the repairs done for recall #: 14V252000. This is a dangerous manufacturing error that GM should be acknowledging and repairing at no cost to the owners. I know I cannot be the only one suffering this issue especially after reading numerous customer complaints online.
