Car will indicate 'engine power reduced' and will abruptly reduce speed. This is a major safety concern not only to myself but other drivers on the road as well. Why is there no recall for this problem? I see it is a major problem with these models of Chevy Malibu. Happens everyday, most of the time more than once. My commute to work is about 25min and it did it 3 times today.

Engine light on continually and never went off; I drove to dealer who said the gas cap area of fuel line was leaking; needs to be replaced they said and tried to order it from GM but they do not have the part; they ordered the part and cannot tell me when it is coming. They could not advise me on the safety of this condition. I know someone who had a similar problem with their model car. Can I drive this or should the dealer give me a loaner? I am still under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. We have always had problems filling the car and it is never completely full. We have brought it to dealer several times about this with no advise. They did recalibrate one time. They said it was an issue with the dash board reporting less gas than is in the tank. Please let me know about this as we continue to drive the car.

For three weeks I have been getting a "shift to park" error when I place car in park. It prevents me from fully turning car off and will not allow doors to lock. I have to play with the shifter to get the warning to come off. Last week it was in the shop at basil Chevrolet in depew, NY and they replaced the shift relay and it is still doing it. Today while driving down the highway my car suddenly showed the check engine light, the traction control light, slowed down to approximately 10-15 miles per hour and showed "reduced engine power" warning on the dashboard. I was in the middle of rush hour traffic. I was able to get into a parking lot but the car would not shut off and the "shift to park" warning showed. Finally got that error to go off and shut off car. Car was able to restart with only the engine light on. Stayed on for the next 35 miles. Just went back out at lunch time and now no lights and it was driving fine until I tried shutting off and the "shift to park" wouldn't go off no matter how much I tried to wiggle the handle. Car going back to dealer at 5pm.

  • 89,000 miles
On July 22, 2019 while out of town, my car went into reduced engine power mode, everything locked up and the car cut off. The car would not start back up. I had the car towed to the closest shop where it would sit for about a month and a half. I was told that initially it was a sensor, then come to find out the camshaft needed to be replaced. It took a few weeks to get the parts as they said they were on back order. Finally I get the money to pick the car up. Upon getting into the car on October 12, while still at the dealership the engine light came on. Now I am told that the sensors and pistons need to be replaced. The car has 89,000 miles on it and over all the total repairs will be over seven thousand dollars. I have sent some documentation to the dealership with regards to customer satisfaction program number N182195660 attached below. This describes everything that has been wrong with my car this time in the shop and the repairs that they need do with the pistons as of now. I have reached out to GM to open a case to see if my car could be part of this notification, though they have initially told me its not, its too obvious that the car meets everything that is described in the notice.

Reduced engine power is a norm for these new Chevy Malibu's my engender is reducing power again. They charges me $345 last December 3018 to replace the accelerator pedal and this October 2019, it's doing the same thing. It will reduce speed on highway under 50 mph and I could have been hit by other cars if they did not notice.

Also at more times then I can remember the car didnt want to start it would after 10-15 min after I try to start it up, I feel motor jumps alot, and transmission not running normal as it should, I have done 2 cases with the headquaters in Chicago but both times they close the caes and nothing was solved, and until this day I still have problems with this car

Car shuts off completely while driving-the car goes dead de-energized completely. All controls would not work just locked up on me. I had to have the unit towed twice, we switched the battery in the key fob and the car ended up starting, however 2 weeks later it died again while driving, I nearly had an accident again!! 3 times the car has been in motion going straight and completely shuts down. The dealership was not able to find anything with their diagnostic testing!! this has to be some sort of mal-function or recall regarding this issue.

Driving on a major highway with a customer and the engine light comes on, power is reduced to a crawl, and then "power reduce" light comes on. At that point no acceleration occurs and car cuts off ( I was able to glide to the side) and will not start back up. After an hour, ( and me having to call another car to pick up my customer) car cuts back on. Take it to dealership, was advised that a bulletin was issued regarding this problem 18 months ago, 1 month before I purchased car. Said I needed my cylinders replaced (the engine) but once I took it in, they replaced the fuel injections (23,000 miles). 60 days later, the same exact issue has occurred, again on a major highway, this time I had just dropped off a passenger. Waited 30 minutes, and was able to drive home. Since it was the holiday weekend, I was not able to get into the dealership for immediate repairs again. Called today 7/8/19 to speak to my advisor, he has not called me back. I will have to have the car towed in or drive on the back roads at a crawl.

Warning message says 'shift into park' & even though engine shuts off, the radio (& I'm assuming battery) doesn't. car won't lock because of it. Has required turning car back on & off as many as 8 times, and/or moving forward or backwards numerous times. Chevy dealer's service advisor told me "yeah, we've had lots of problems with that. We usually have to replace the shifter control box".

On Saturday, June 29th, 2019 approximately at 12:30 pm my family's 2017 Chevrolet Malibu was in motion in a major interstate (I-75) and the traffic started slowing down, I pressed the brake pedal to slow down and the pedal became very hard to brake and having to swerve to the side of the right side of the road to avoid a collision with the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle's message board read "engine power reduced". I also received an email message from on-star stating that an issue with the engine and transmission system was detected. The vehicle was taken to victory lane Chevrolet in fort myers, Florida, and the service technician told us that the issue had nothing to do with the engine or transmission as the vehicle message stated, but a problem with the braking system's vacuum. This could have been a really bad accident and hope that this information can help avoid any problems to anybody. We are still worry about driving this vehicle, since we are becoming aware that this is an issue that seems to be repeating itself to many other owners of the same vehicle and model as our Malibu in the United States and Canada.

  • 65,000 miles
I purchased a 2017 Chevy Malibu in April 2017 with 11 miles. In less than a month, the car started having issues. Took the vehicle into the dealership for inspection with the initial problem being the O2 sensor they updated the software and it was noted GM would monitor the concern and has been an ongoing issue since. The problems are as follows: Dashboard goes blank while driving, codes: P0036, P0037, P0138, P0141, P2097 X3; P2122, P2127, P2138, accelerator pedal replaced X3 within a two month time frame with throttle harness being replaced on the third time, reduced engine power to 20 mph while driving, scanning noise coming from engine while vehicle is both in the on/off position; still have no explanation of the problem. The sound will sometimes occur before reduced engine power. While the car was under warranty, the issues were not addressed and were no longer GM's concern after the warranty expired. I filed a BBB claim to help resolve the ongoing problems with the vehicle. The BBB awarded the decision that GM is to repair any issues with the throttle, accelerator pedal, and emissions with four attempts to do so.

The very first advanced diagnostic report by 'onstar" emailed to me on 04/07/2017, was less than 30 days after the final sale of my vehicle. I called the service team for the first time on April 7, 2019 @4:13pm. (see phone records) I am unsure of the mileage however; I do confirm it was within the 30 days of me purchasing the car and I spoke with a service rep by the name of guy. At the time of sale, the car had 15 miles total. The diagnostic message received on April 7, 2017 was "an issue with the emissions/ engine power reduced/engine stalled". the check engine light was also on I have received an email to that effect every month thereafter, and to date. Each time causing the check engine light to come on. I have also attempted to have the car repaired multiple times, within warranty and while out of warranty, by two dealerships. 1. rockmont ourisman Chevrolet &2. sports Chevrolet. Both service teams never resolving the issue. The last few times the car was in for service at the senior advisor's recommendation was on 10/17/2018 for 1 day, 11/09/2018-11/13/2018 for 4 days and finally 12/10/2018-01/17/2019, over 1 month at the sports Chevrolet. During this time, unfortunately, I was not under warranty; therefore, I spent quite a bit of out of pocket expenses on a rental vehicle for the days my car was in for repair, even though this issue was obviously relating the same unresolved complaint from April 7, 2017 and that a Chevrolet senior advisor recommended I go there. I found the senior advisors to be unhelpful and limited in remedying simple common sense customer concerns. I have lots of documentation

I have a recurring emission issue diagnostic test code P2097 General Motors has admitting to not knowing what is wrong with my vehicle. I purchased the vehicle brand new the emission issue is ongoing recurring and my vehicle is up for state inspection for which it will not pass, this issue began at mile 3007 I've owned the car for less than 2 years. The vehicle came without air conditioning for which it was equipped that issue begin at mile 598. I have had multiple systems issues. I have lost my job over this car this issue has not been corrected with several attempts to repair it. I want General Motors to repurchase the vehicle with no usage being charged. This has been an issue that is caused my personal life and my professional life severe distress. I literally have lost everything after having lost my job over this defective vehicle. The vehicle had an accelerator pedal assembly replaced which prior to that my car was going into limp mode / safe mode constantly. This is an issue General Motors is aware of and has continued to sell this model vehicle with its known defects which in my opinion is extremely dangerous given the resulting characteristics the car displays once going into reduced engine power / limp mode this would occur while driving on the highway early morning late night hours I would have to pull over unexpectedly and suddenly, unhook my battery terminals and reset the computer manually. It would happen on side streets, on main roads, sitting in rush hour traffic, etc. At one point my car began displaying characteristics of losing power steering, engaging the auto stop/start function and not re-engaging the vehicle upon acceleration for which it was intended. I lost power steering in a turn one time and almost crashed in brookline Massachusetts a heavily travelled pedestrian area
