I was driving down the interstate doing 74 miles an hour when all of a sudden the car jerked and started slowing down. The display screen showed a messaging saying engine power reduced. I pulled over on the shoulder because it wouldn't let me accelerate and had slowed the car down to 50 mph. I sat there for a minute and was going to try to drive on the shoulder to the next exit. When I started the car the message was no longer there but the check engine light was still on. The car has done this more than 10 times since this day.

When I put my car into park and go to turn off the vehicle, it throws a "shift to park" code on the dash when my car clearly is in park. I took it up to a Chevy dealership, and they said that there were quite a few vehicles that were having the same issues. They told me that there were two options as to what it could be, so I paid for the first option that GM recommended they do first. That did not fix the issue. Now, I'm being told that I have to bring it back up to the Chevy dealership and pay another chunk of change just to get it fixed. It is quite frustrating, as it takes a while for me to get my car to register that it is in park, and if I don't, then it drains my battery because the car won't fully shut off. Extremely frustrating and annoying.

When shifting my car into park, it will clearly be in park, yet when I shut off the engine, I get an error message "shift to park". this has happened multiple times in the last month, and now just last night, it took me 15 minutes to get the car to stop the message. Its becoming irritating! if you do not try to fix the issue once the car is turned off, then you're battery will eventually be drained. I contacted the local Chevy dealer and they say that there are other car owners complaining about it. I am waiting for a replacement part, but since GM was on strike, my wait is longer.

When the car is shifted to park, the car does not register that it is in park. The car then has to be turned on, the shifter moved back to drive, and then back to park again. The car then has to be shut off again, and if I am lucky, the message goes away. If it does not, I have to repeat this process over and over again until the message does go away. This is a common issue specifically in Chevrolet Malibu dating back to the 2016 model. This should be a recall issue given that it is widespread and the fact the GM makes people pay to repair their faulty parts out of warranty is ridiculous.

The contact owned a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact's student attempted to place the vehicle into park; however, the vehicle continued to move forward independently. The driver attempted to place the vehicle into reverse, but it continued to move forward. In addition, the contact mentioned that the check engine and low power mode indicators illuminated. The vehicle continued to roll as the driver attempted to stop and it crashed into a boulder. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The contact spoke with crain Chevrolet (9911 I-30, little rock, ar 72209, (501) 436-4484) and was informed to tow the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was sent to the collision department and the contact had the vehicle towed back to her apartment for insurance purposes. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact not to touch the vehicle. The contact was informed to take the vehicle to an authorized Chevrolet dealer so that it could be assessed by an investigator. After some back and forth with the original dealer, the vehicle was towed to gwatney Chevrolet (1301 T P white dr, jacksonville, ar 72076, (501) 295-4448) where an investigator determined that they could not find any fault with the vehicle. Recently, the contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 19V642000 (electrical system, fuel system, gasoline, engine) the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 29,196.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the engine stalled while driving 25 mph. The steering indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact experienced the engine failure several times. The vehicle was taken to ourisman Chevrolet of marlow heights (4400 branch ave, marlow heights, md 20748, (240) 455-3386) to be diagnosed and the following failure codes were found: 1119835548, SD19835789, and doc5228009. The dealer reprogrammed the engine electronic control module; however, the vehicle continued to stall. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator and power supply converter failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5585224979. The failure mileage was 6,521.

On Chevy Malibu when you put the vehicle in park and shut it off, anywhere, and the vehicle is stationary, a message will pop up "shift to park" but it is already in park. The car will not lock and battery will die down if you can't get it to sense that the car is in park. You have to mess around with the shifter until it will recognize it is in "park". which can take up to 20 minutes or not at all. After researching online I have found that many, many other Chevy Malibu owners are dealing with this same issue and all agree this should be a recall. This can be a very frustrating issue when you are trying to get to work on time but can't get your' car to shut off and if it wont by the end of the day your' battery is dead. There are many complaints online about this. Ultimately the car will not sense that it is in park which causes the car to not lock among other issues. My car is only a year old and doing this. It seems Chevy knows of the issue but wont do much to fix it.

I have had my car in twice for my issue now. When attempting to accelerate the engine light comes on and I have to push the gas to the floor to get the car to move. First time it happened as I was getting on the expressway last time was pulling out onto a busy road during rush hour and almost got into an accident because of this. Both dealers I have taken it to for this issue have pulled the same trouble code and neither will repair the knock sensor that the code is for. I keep getting told to just drive it until it happens again and the engine light is on to bring it back in. My issue is when you restart the car the light will be off and they never have any appointments available for at least a week. I have contacted GM directly and basically been told the same as the dealer to just drive it til it happens again. I feel that not only my saftey but the safety of others on the road is in jeopardy because of this. I dont know what else to do at this point/ between insurance and my lease payment im paying $500 a month for a car that im now nervous driving not just that now if I were to get into an accident because of the issue that ive had it in for twice im gonna be stuck with trying to come up with an extra $1000 for my deductible. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated

Vehicle frequently has an issue accelerating. When pulling out into traffic or departing from a red light, the vehicle fails to move more than approximately 5 miles an hour for approximately 5-10 seconds. You can have the gas pedal pushed to the floor and still the car has serious hesitation and delay of acceleration. This is extremely dangerous. It is a mystery if you are going to pull out into traffic and not move or maybe the car will accelerate normal. You will not know until you try!

Regarding bulletin no.: 18-na-297: Historically, if a vehicle is not in "park" the neutral safety switch prevents the engine from starting. In the case of the Chevy Malibu, and similarly affected vehicles, this is not the case. While the display reads, "shift to park, " the operator can still start the vehicle. I understand that a dead battery as a result of this malfunction is an inconvenience, but if left un-repaired, this could lead to vehicle lunging if the vehicle was left in any forward gear, or reverse. I believe that the term "neutral safety switch, " has been replaced by General Motors in order to avoid using the word safety. Rather, they use terms like "BCM, " and "shifter assembly, " to circumvent criticism of a potentially serious problem. As the average mileage appears to be just short of the warranty expiration, GM is leaving a sizable repair bill to consumers that can afford to pay it, and forcing "back yard work arounds" to those who can not. I would respectfully request that the NHTSA look further into the issue, as well as the semantics employed by General Motors. My car was bought new in December 2018. Starting in April of 2018, with a little over 3000 miles on the car, I began to notice that when I drove the car with a cold start (mornings and after a full day of work) the car would not respond to me pressing on the gas pedal. I would push down, and it would take about 5-8 seconds for the car to actually accelerate at all. This has been happening almost every day for nearly a month. Multiple times, I have pulled out of a driveway and was almost hit by cross traffic because my car literally wouldn't go. We have taken it to the service center twice now, and they haven't been able to pull any codes or find any issues wrong with it. The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the RPM gauge increased; however, the transmission gears failed to change over while the vehicle was driving on the highway. As a result, there was a drastic reduction in speed and the contact had to maneuver the vehicle with extreme difficulty to prevent a crash. Initially, performance Chevrolet (1005 w ehringhaus St, elizabeth city, nc 27909, 252-338-9100) was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure with the service center manager. Further diagnostic testing was not provided. A dealer test drove the vehicle with the contact and diagnosed that the spacer plate needed to be replaced. A loaner vehicle was provided for two days. The vehicle was not repaired and the contact wanted the vehicle bought back by the dealer if there was no solution. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Purchased 2018 Chevy Malibu with 4,200 but new due to it being a dealer courtesy car on 12/18/18, on 1/7/19 the car would not accelerate while stationary in a parking lot attempting to pull out of the parking spot. I put the car in park and when shifting back to drive the transmission slammed into gear and the accelerator barely responded and the car revved to over 5,000 RPM's. I took into superior Chevrolet on 1/8/19, on 1/11/19 they still did not know what the issue was and were unable to duplicate it. On 1/4/19 the dealership said they were connecting the car to a machine that would supply the smallest specs of the car to send to GM engineers, on 1/16/19 the GM engineers advised to replace the tcm (transmission control module). Tcm was replaced and the car was picked up on 1/18/19. On 5/22/19 while driving through an intersection the accelerator failed to respond again and revved to 5,500 RPM's. it took approx one minute for the accelerator to respond in the meantime I was almost rear-ended by the car behind me. I took the car back to superior Chevrolet on 5/23/19 reporting the accelerator did not respond again as it had in January. The techs were unable to duplicate the issue again and the service manager drove the car home to see if it would duplicate, it did not. On 5/24/19 I was advised they updated the computer and that should resolve the problem this time. The first failure happened at approx 4,700 miles. The second occurring at approx 11,700. The consumer stated upon the 3rd failure the onstar diagnostic stated that there was an issue with the engine and transmission system.

This almost caused me to get into an accident as I pulled out and pressed the accelerator and the car would not move. There are no lights or codes present. According to online forums there is a tsb for this (19-na-32); it needs to be a safety recall...this is very dangerous.

At any given time, when vehicle is stationary and shift lever set to 'park', the instrument panel screen displays a 'shift to park' message even with the lever set to the 'park' position. The vehicle seems to be in 'park' however, battery power to the vehicle remains and will not shut off. Car electrical system remains on and honks three times if the key fob is not in range. It is concerning that the vehicle is never fully in 'park' mode or that the vehicle is never fully turned off and can cause an accident if unattended.
