The steering wheel will get hard to turn usually when I am in the process of changing lanes on the interstate and accelerating. Sometimes an alarm will come on and a light will come on for a few seconds and then go off. Here lately the alarm is not coming on. It is getting were it is happening more often, at least a couple times a week now. Most of my driving is done on the interstate and it is scary because I never know if I can trust my car when merging onto the interstate.

I have had problems with my power steering over the years. But this was the worst it has ever been. I was driving 55 mph on the highway. The roads were clear on this spring day. My traction control, brake light and check engine light came on. Then the power steering was chiming and the alert came on for that which effected my power steering. The instrument cluster was flashing on and off along with the gauges not working correctly. Then the instrument cluster went completely out. So the instrument cluster was replaced. A couple of weeks later, this all repeated again. So this time the ignition was replaced. After all that, the power steering still chimes and alerts still come on which makes it harder to steer. Then I have to stop the car, turn it off, wait and restart it. Then it is fine for a while. My mechanic says the only code that shows up is for the 14772 recall. But my car is not part of that recall since it was manufactured in January of 2006. Please do some research and expand the current recall to include all 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu maxx vehicles. Repairs need to be done on these vehicles asap to any fatal or potential crashes.

While driving, when you accelerate, the steering wheel locks up and you can't steer the car, losing all control. It locks up for a second or two. This car was recalled for the steering and many other issues, and we took it in to bunnin Chevrolet in culver city, ca for the repairs. They repaired it under the recall, but it did not fix the problem. The steering still locks up and it will do it multiple times in one driving session.

I have waited 3 years for a recall for my steering problem which started 08-2012 with 75,000 miles. On 03/13/15 I took my car in for recall #14116 with 95,000 miles. The fix failed completely. On 07/07/15 with 98,800 miles I returned to the chev dealer for a diagnostic. Which cost me $108. Received a call from dealer, after road test and diagnostic, could not find a problem. Next day I took the mechanic for a test drive and he saw the problem. Alert chimes, power steering displayed on the dic and loss of power steering. After talking with Chevrolet tech support there best guess was a failing power steering control module. And wanted $650 plus the $108 I paid for the diagnostic with no guarantee that it would fix the problem, may need other repairs. I declined. I did more reach and found technical service bulletin # 10183A, special coverage program. 10 year or 150,000 mile warranty on the steering column assembly. Returned to dealer on 07/13/15, 98,800 miles and had steering column assembly replaced under the warranty. No change, the problem still exist. More reach found all vehicles that have recall #14116 done failed to work. 99% were told by the chev. Dealership like me that the power steering control module failing. I'am requesting that NHTSA add the part to the recall list or make Chevrolet do something to fix the problem in less than another 10 years. Have contacted Chevrolet customer assistance center no reply after 3 business days.

General Motors has a recall for defective power steering that causes the power steering to fail for several seconds. We took our vehicle to jet Chevrolet in federal way, wa to repair the vehicle according to the recall. They claim they did the work. However, within a couple of days, we continued to have the exact same failure with the power steering. We called jet Chevrolet again to report it and brought the vehicle in again and they said it was something else causing the problem other than the recall. They want to charge us $100 to find out what the problem is. However, the car is doing exactly the same thing as before we brought it in for the recall. If they did replace the part, I'm sure it must have been a defective part. We need something done to remedy this situation to avoid a potential car accident.

After starting and driving, the power steering warning message displayed on the driver information center and a chime sounded. The power steering assist was lost and the vehicle reverted to manual steering. It took greater driver effort to turn the vehicle and could have resulted in a serious crash. Once the vehicle was stopped and parked, the power steering assist returned and the warning disappeared. It is only a matter of time before the issue with power steering reappears. We contacted our local Chevy dealer service center, as well as the GM Chevrolet hotline at 1-800-630-2438. Both advised that there was no current recall with our vehicle based on the VIN and they refused to make appropriate the repairs. Please do further research to expand the current recall bulletin 14116 which covers model years 2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu maxx to include our VIN number, or better yet, to include all Malibu and Malibu maxxs of any year. Clearly this is a known issue with these vehicles and repairs needs to be completed asap to prevent potentially fatal crashes.

Unit has had continuing intermittent power steering. Very dangerous at times. Bulletin 14116 is suppose to cover 2004-2006 Malibu, but dealer says its not covered. How could a recall not be a recall? unit also has dangerous intermittent headlights. Bulbs fine, has defective sockets inside the integrated headlight assembly. Other gms have had this issues but no recalls on the Malibu.

After driving out of my garage, my steering wheel jerked and locked up causing me to hit the brakes. Power steering showed up on the monitor. Turned the car off thinking maybe I should have warmed it up a bit. Started car back up to proceed, steering jerked and locked again. Was too afraid to continue so called for a tow truck. Car is currently at the dealership, they are saying problem is the power steering pump motor and the electronic power assist system. They can replace the pump motor now for $650 and the eps assist when available. Wonder if I am being ripped off here!!! soon after I purchased the car, the power steering light would come on, I took it back to the dealer, was told they could find nothing wrong. The power steering light has come on several times over the years and steering would feel a bit tight or stiff at times, but never jerked or locked up on me. I thought is was due to the colder temps here in Michigan.

Parts are not available for either recall and an estimated date for parts is not available. I have not had an accident, yet. However, I feel the safety of anyone driving or riding in this car is in jeopardy.
