The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stated that the instrument panel indicators flickered along with the headlights when the vehicle was stopped. After three attempts to repair the failure, the manufacturer was able to locate the cause of the failures. General Motors stated that the failures were normal. The failure mileage was 29,000 and current mileage was 32,000. Updated 12-15-08 the passenger side mirror needed to be replaced. Updated 12/17/08.

Car begin to have difficulty going into park and allowing the ignition key to be removed. Within 1 month car now will not go into park at all without manually going under the hood and moving the shift cable. Since the car remains very hot underneath the hood for a while this is very dangerous, especially for a woman, but necessary to remove your keys from the ignition and to put your keys into park.

2006 Monte Carlo has had problems with the seat belt and air bag failure. The air bag light illuminated. Diagnostics were run but no problems were found. When the air bags failed, this caused an issue with the onstar system. The air bag light was on while someone was sitting in the passenger seat. This meant that the air bag was not activated. The seat belt indicator light illuminated. The dealer replaced and reprogrammed the SDM. The onstar system had been replaced once. The air conditioner has been replaced once. The keyless entry system has been replaced and reprogrammed numerous times. There has also been a problem with the traction control system not functioning.

: the contact stated the dash panel instrument cluster was poorly lighted and there was limited visibility while driving in the daylight. The vehicle was seen by a service dealer on a bright day, therefore the panel was visible and the dealer could not duplicate the problem. However, in cloudy conditions the gauges are not visible at all.
