Started truck, put it in gear. No reverse, late shift into 2nd, no overdrive. Dealer and 2 trans. Shops say it's probably a broken reverse band or something similar. Will find out when repairs are made. This should not happen at 48,000 miles. GM customer assistance says there's nothing they can do, me being 2nd owner and mileage being past the 3yr.36,000 mi. Warranty.I believe GM should help me defray at least part of the cost. This is going to be expensive. A trans. Failure shouldn't happen this soon under normal driving conditions. Owners manual says fluid and filter don't even need changing at 50,000 mi. Unless under severe conditions. I am thoroughly disgusted with this and with GM. Thanks for your time.

Engine check light comes on & off. Code reads: P1870-means transmission is slipping at different speeds. Got vehicle at 36000 miles--dealer may have known of problem-may need replacement. Should be a recall for all the complaints I've seen so far.

This is the second transmission to fail in this truck(fact rebuilt to replace original that failed at 70,000 miles. At this time dealer does not know why, nor can they repair because trucks computer center was cleared on test to find defect, and computer has not relogged problem. The first transmission should have lasted longer than 70,000 miles and the second should definately lasted longer than 10,000.

Transmission went at 72000 miles.I know that warranty expired, but it seems a new transmission should have lasted longer than that. I had two rebuilt transmissions put in in 60 days, and the engine check light still comes on, and the transmission needs to be worked on again. I have heard this was an ongoing problem with 1997 Chevy trucks.

Transmission does not properly shift into gear, it grabs or slips which causes the rear tires to spin. Cause unknown. Dealer cannot identify the problem.

Vehicle was in driveway/in gate, vehicle was in park and running. Itjumped into gear by itself and ran away and ended up in a creek, GM contacted and helped pull the car out. Dealer will be contacted and informed of the problem.
- Manistee, MI, USA
Noise in transmission bearings due to design.
- Salunga, PA, USA
Continuous high engine idle. Also, when shifting transmission the shifter is very notchy and tends to grind when shifting from 2nd into 3rd gear.
- Hutchinson, KS, USA
Transmission failure.

When driving vehicle tilts to left side. Has to hold tightly to steering wheel to keep vehicle on road. Taken it to dealer who noticed frame was bent & out of alignment. Also transmission has slippage.
