Steering goes out. Upon restart traveled over 500 miles until service. Once service was done at Chevrolet, weeks later same problem upon restart drove for less than 5 miles and same issue. Now rack and pinion has been replaced. First time on starting saw notice in screen. 2nd and 3rd happened while car was driving.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Ss. The contact stated that the power steering failed and caused a crash. The contact's vehicle struck the bumper of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The dealer diagnosed that the steering wheel assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000.

Power steering failure while driving on interstate in straight line with message "service power steering, drive carefully". after car was stopped and parked for 8 hours, upon starting again, message and problem had disappeared. Dealer service unable to find problem. Indicated no GM bulletins.

Random failure of power steering system. While driving, the car will chime and the message "service power steering, drive with care" is displayed. At this point the car loses all power steering function and is extremely difficult to steer. This has happened on both city streets and major highways. This is an extremely dangerous system failure.

It started a month ago on my way to an interview I was on the I 35 here in dallas and the I was driving normally going mph 60 and I get a message in the dic to service the power steering and I lost complete control of the power steering. After doing some research online there seems to be a recall with numerous Ss owners that have the issues. The thread can be found here www.ssforums.com/forum/warranty-service-issues/25833-power-steering-failure.html. there is a recall to just degrease the connectors but that doesn't seem to work and people are replacing the steering gears which have a recall on another vehicle which is the caprice ppv.

On april15, 2015 I took my 2014 Chevrolet Ss, mileage 6316, to the dealer in response to factory recall 14804. At that time they applied a dielectetic lube to the steering rack connector as per the recall instructions. This was to prevent a sudden loss of power steering while operating the vehicle. This condidtion had not ever occured at that time. One year later in April 2016 the car started experiencing sudden loss of power steering at random times. The vehicle drivers information center stated "service power steering, drive with care". all power steering assist was gone and stopping and restarting the motor was the only way to restore it, maybe for a few minutes, maybe for the rest of the day. The car was then parked in our garage until mid August 2016. The car continued the sudden loss of power steering and I took the car to the dealer on 9-1-2016. Mileage 16031. Took a picture of the D.I.C. screen as evidence of the steering loss. Dealer stated no codes were set and performed the lube procedure under recall 14804 again. I was told to bring car back with power steering malfunctioning. My concern is the loss of power steering dramatically increases the effort needed to steer the further the wheel is turned. If it were to fail on a cloverleaf interstate onramp the effort to steer would be very high, coupled with the higher speeds, a recipe for disaster. I would like to have the steering rack replaced. First recall repair procedure didn't fix the vehicle, second identical repair procedure surely will not. Concerns about this condition exist in NHTSA document id# 10057679.

Power steering failure while driving and making a turn.

Electric power steering went out and steering wheel got really stiff. Message "service power steering. Drive with care" appeared on the car's instrument panel. Vehicle was coasting to a traffic light at about 20~25 mph. Stopped at the traffic light, turned the car off and on again and power steering was working again.

On the morning of April 18, 2016, I was drive down my street on the way to work. Suddenly the power steering stopped working and the following message displayed next to the speedometer, "service power steering drive with care". I pulled the car over to the side of the street and turned the car off and then on again. When the car restarted the power steering started working again. I called the dealership on the way and they advised me to bring my car in for service. This must be a widespread issue because the dealership is telling me the replacement parts are 3-4 weeks out and are on national back order.

My cars power steering has failed. The dealership is putting in a new steering gear. My car had a recall done on it on 2/15. It was to lube a connector. Now it has failed again. My car has the same steering gear as a Chevrolet caprice ppv recall #22010. Those are being replaced under the recall free of charge and I have to pay for mine being fixed for the same exact part.

Electric power steering assist quits. Driving 35 mph on a straight section of road on a city street all of a sudden it got extremely hard to steer the car. This car is the same platform as the Chevrolet ppv which has a steering recall but there is no recall for the Ss sedan. GM's number for this recall is 22010.www.autonews.com/article/20160329/oem11/160329842/GM-to-recall-6300-police-cars-for-steering-defect.

The power steering failed as I was slowing down to turn into a parking lot. Speed was about 10 mph. It became extremely difficult to turn the wheel. The dic displayed a message saying "service power steering, drive with care". after restarting the car, the power steering had returned. I am having it towed to the dealership to avoid having it go out again while driving. The car has 22,000 miles on it.

Power steering failed again. Happened originally at 15,000 miles and then repaired, it was then repaired again under the recall and now it has failed again at 28,137 miles. Fortunately I was at a standstill when the warning came on. This is a serious issue that needs to be rectified with more than "silicon grease" which I was told was used on the electrical connection.

While driving away from my home last night, the power steering failed. The message "service power steering" was displayed on the dic screen. I was still on my street and only driving 20 mph. I pulled over and restarted the vehicle and the power steering came back on and the service message on the dic cleared. I am fortunate I wasn't in a curve or in the middle of a lane change in the interstate.

The electric power steering failed whilst driving at 35mph on a straight road. The steering went heavy and simultaneously a message came up in the drivers information screen stating "service power steering, drive with care". after pulling off the road and turning off/restarting the vehicle, the steering assistance had returned and the message had gone. Three hours later, as I had just parked the car and was about to turn off the ignition, the same happened again. When I returned to the car a hour later, the fault had gone. Fortunately, in both situations I was not in any danger but I could imagine this being a serious risk if I had been traveling on the highway or driving on a curved road as the steering became extremely difficult to turn.

While driving the car around a cloverleaf on-ramp for a highway at 40 mph the electronic power steering failed. I feel very lucky that I managed to maintain control of the car in the instant the power steering failed as this could have resulted in the car crashing.
