The consumer owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado ls 2500 hd 4 wheel drive regular cab. He was complaining about rear disc brakes. During state inspection on August 5, 2005 the consumer was told that the rear brakes wore out and needed to be replaced. Vehicle had 29,800 miles on it. The rear pads wore out and the rotors were rough and needed to be turned. He then contacted manufacturer customer service, who put him through to sweeney Chevrolet, and the dealer told him that because there was rust on the rear rotors the pads wore out. The consumer asked dealer why the front brakes did not wear out, and dealer did not have an answer. Manufacturer will not help with bill, he was told by sweeney Chevrolet that rotors could be be turned and saved. If rotors had to be replaced then they may have beeb given some assistance. A manufacturer's customer service representative called the consumer back and asked if problem was resolved, and he told her that problem still remained. Unresolved..

The brake rotors rusted and fell apart. Consumer noticed this problem August 1, 2005. Brakes malfunctioned. When pressing the brake pedal it went all the way to the floor, then began to pulsate. Consumer arranged an appointment on August 10, 2005 for dealer to inspect the vehicle. Consumer said he was aware of someone else with same problem, and the person had to pay to have the rotors replaced.

Contact stated brakes were not working correctly. All 4 rotors were rusted after 14,000 miles. He noticed this approximately 2 weeks ago after taking the truck on a trip. When he took vehicle to service dealer he was told that all of the rotors were rusted. He did not notice any problems prior to this because he did not drive this truck very much. A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado with only 14,000 miles on it. Has been on the internet and saw where he saw similar complaints about brakes failing.

2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the vehicle brakes and rotors are excessively worn out and corroded to the point of failure, the emergency brake will not stop or hold the vehicle in place, and the consumer has only put 12,000 miles on the vehicle, consumer has contacted the manufacturer. They told consumer that there was no recall on this issue, the manufacturer gave the consumer a service request order # 1-346253-537. There were no other safety issues with the vehicle at this time.

Safety issue: 2002 Chevy 3500 1 ton dually (53,000 miles). Truck brakes starting acting funny. Take truck dealership for brake inspection. Dealer charge $$ for inspection and informed us that all 4 brake rotors were rotten (beyond repair). Not wore but rotten. Seems they use re-cycled material in their brake rotors. Seem this is a major safety issue because rotors could fail completed due to rot and cause vehicle to lose brakes. Cost of replacement is $2000.

The problem began about a month when coming to a stop sign, and after applying brakes extended stopping distance was required, and brakes shuddered. Vehicle was regularly serviced. The ABS light did not come on. Happened in all driving conditions under normal braking conditions. Owner believed they were 4 wheel anti lock brakes. The problem is intermittent, happening about every other time the brakes are applied at slow speeds. At about 5 mph. Dealer stated that the ABS sensors were dirty, and had to be cleaned. Owner replaced the brakes at 30,000 miles, and brakes began to cause problems after the installation of new brakes. ABS sensors failed and was not covered in warranty. Rear rotors replaced at 30,000 miles when being replaced chunks of metal fell off dealer said consumer was lucky to get 30,000 miles out of them.

The inside of the brake rotors were rusting and flaking. The first problem was less 10,000 miles and had the rotors had to turned due to rust and flaking. This was on the inside of the rotor. At almost 40,000 miles the back rotors have disintegrated. The consumer is going to get the rotors replaced because they have not been heat hardened enough. This is the 3rd set of brakes in 40,000 miles.

Vehicle lost braking power due to excessive rust buildup on all four rotors. This situation is especially dangerous when the antilock system activates. The first time I thought I was going to run into the stopped vehicle in front of me then again when I ended up in the intersection. No accidents, but a close call. GM would not repair under warranty at 52,000 miles. I repaired the vehicle myself but am concerned that there are alot of other vehicles out there with the same problem. Customer service since advised me that my vehicle is not part of any recall.

While driving down a slight incline in road with about 500 lbs of weight in back of truckand when brakes were applied found the left front wheel had strong vibrations and tended to cause the vehicle to pull to the left. Went to dealer for repair / analysis, they found the left front disk brake rotor was excessively rusted and lacking contact with the disk brake pad in the center of the rotor. The right side rotor also had excessive rusting and pitting. Dealer attempted to clean the rust by "cutting" the rotors on a machine, but after several attempts the rotors thickness was below legal limits and the rust was still excessive. Dealer replaced both rotors under warranty. Vehicle now drives and brakes as it should

2002 Chevy Silverado Z71 truck - bought new from mcclinton Chevrolet parkersburg wv. The truck started with a clicking noise when put in reverse. Took to machanic who stated that all 4 rotors were pitted and rusted and needed replaced. The truck has 54,000 miles. Took to two different Chevy dealerships the second finally diagnosed that the calipers were stuck and not allowing the pads to move when necessary. They stated that they have had numerous complaints about this problem and have found that the rotors are made of an inferior metal. The problem is not due to driving habits or environmental issues this is a manufacturer defect that if not caught early by the owner causes about $800 to replace the rotors, calipers, and brake pads. This needs to be looked into and Chevrolet needs to cover this type of cost. Loyal customers deserve better treatment from manufacturers. They have changed the brake system on the 2005. I guess that this tells us something. They know that there is a problem but don't want to be held responsible.

When applying brake in a sudden stop situation a grinding noise could be heard, and the vehicle would experience extended stopping distance. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced both rear rotors, and turned both front rotors...dealer indicated that brake line cut 1/2 inch slits into rotors, causing brakes to fail.

Brought vehicle in for state safety inspection and was advised that the front and rear brake rotors were rusted and cracking to a point where they had to be replaced, as vehicle had excessive vibration when applying brakes and rotors were beyond repair. The 2002 Silverado had 10,500 miles on it and was still under Chevrolet basic 3 year 36000 mile warranty. Local Chevrolet dealer advised me that this has been a common problem with the Silverado since 1998 and that Chevrolet will not cover the repair under warranty, as it is a result of factors beyond their control. Like water and salt on the roads.

When taken for inspection, the dealer informed the consumer that the vehicle needed new brakes and rotors. The rotors were slightly pulling away from the wheel. Consumer never had any signs of a safety defect prior to this. The cause was undetermined. The consumer stated when he placed the vehicle in park and turned off the engine, the automatic doors locks failed. When the consumer attempted to gain speed, the vehicle stalled, the dealer stated the injector was bad.

My ABS chatters and it pushes hard and does not want to stop. I just had new rotors put on in may and in Oct I had new discs and rotors turned down..it is full of brake fluid. I have a warranty on it bumper to bumper and not sure if it covers it. I work construction out of town and need a reliable vehicle. I have to take it to my dealer to have it checked out yet. I haven't had the time due to working out of town. This should not be happening. What can I do?
