Silverado 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 0 miles
My ABS chatters and it pushes hard and does not want to stop. I just had new rotors put on in may and in Oct I had new discs and rotors turned down..it is full of brake fluid. I have a warranty on it bumper to bumper and not sure if it covers it. I work construction out of town and need a reliable vehicle. I have to take it to my dealer to have it checked out yet. I haven't had the time due to working out of town. This should not be happening. What can I do?

When on an incline, the driver noticed that the vehicle rolled three to five feet before stopping. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions, however, the mechanics were unable to duplicate the problem. The incident recurred on 3/14/04, in which the vehicle rolled 5 or more feet before stopping. The service dealer was notified and were waiting for a response from GM.

Silverado 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,000 miles
I purchased a 2002 Chevy Silverado ext cab 4WD (Z71) in October of 2003. The truck had 23000 (+) miles on the odometer when purchased. On December 13 of 2003 while on my way to work and traveling at a speed of approximately 30 mph in a 45 mph zone, traffic began coming to a stop at a traffic stop. When I tried to apply the brakes there was a loud "grinding" noise and I was unable to depress the brake pedal. As I continued to apply manimum pressure to the brake pedal the pedal suddenly went straight to the floor accompanied only by a loud "vacuum" sound. This brake failure resulted in a six car collision with four injuries. Despite numerous similar complaints from other consumers, the manufacturer's representatives continue to claim that there is nothing wrong with the brake system and the "problem" does not require a recall - what a joke. Are they waiting until someone is fatally injured?

Silverado 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission

I purchased a new 2002 Chevy Silverado ext cab 4WD in November 2001. The truck currently has 48000 miles on it. The rear brakes have been completely rebuilt 3 times due to excess wear and failure. The dealership has paid for the repairs twice and split the cost once but has advised they will not pay for it anymore. The cause appears to be sticking which wears the pads out which in turn wear out the rotors. The calipers freeze up and require replacing. The parking brake is used regularly and works okay. After the last repair, the ABS chatters when coming to a stop on clear dry pavement, like a parking lot or stop sign.

Silverado 1500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,500 miles
After 3 weeks of ownership we started experiencing several problems with the steering and braking of this vehicle. Steering wheel would "catch" and make thumping noises as we turned right or left sharp turns (slowly). Brakes are going to cause an accident sooner or later as the pedal goes completely to the floor and thumps loudly but does not slow the vehicle when you try to make a moderately sudden stop. We had our truck in for service after owning it for 3 weeks and the idiots at spitzer Chevrolet tried to tell us it was the trailer hitch making all the noise.....what a joke

Silverado 1500

When coming to a complete stop on dry pavement under moderate to light braking, once the vehicle falls below about 3 mph (I.e., in the last few feet before a complete stop), a shudder is felt in the brake pedal lasting 1 to 1-1/2 seconds. The shuddering in the pedal is accompanied by a stuttering sound. The vehicle stops normally --so far -- except for the vibration and noise. This happens on 30%-50% of the stops; the rest of the time there is no noise and no shuddering in the brake pedal. Dealer has tried twice to fix problem, but today was told by Chevrolet tech rep that this condition is a normal characteristic of their traction control/ABS system and will not authorize any further work by the dealer! I do not consider this a "normal condition" and am concerned about the potential for more catastrophic problems should this condition remain uncorrected.
