Silverado 1500

Started experiencing a popping sound and popping /clicking feeling in the steering wheel when driving at slow speeds, when turning the steering wheel in either direction.this would usually occur in tight spaces such as parking lots, gas stations etc. And after the truck was driven for awhile,20 plus miles after a few weeks started noticing that front tires were wearing rapidly and click/popping sound had progressed and so we scheduled appointment with dealership, and met with service tech, after a brief diagnosis I was informed that it was a faulty rack and pinion and would need to be replaced, this is a major disappointment on a fairly new truck with less then 68000 miles

I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado pick up truck. I have been extremely pleased with this truck until yesterday!!!! at 22,000 miles the truck malfunctioned twice within a short distance. The truck some what stalled with out warning and all the dash lights went crazy and truck lost power. Less than a half mile later while turning left in a cul de sac the truck went crazy, stalled, dash lit up, the steering wheel violently turned to the right as I was attempting to turn left. Immediately took it into service. 4 days past warranty expiration. Chevy/jessup auto grp won't fix it. Kevin in service said he would call me on wed at 4 with update. Thurs at 11am still no word. Dropped by service dept. For update with kevin. He said they didn't have price ready for repair. Denied coverage under recently expired warranty. When I showed him a list of serious computer malfunctions and safety issues from online Chevy truck owners he told me he wasn't interested and he had other people to tend to. He also said I dropped by without an appointment. In other words, I no longer was a priority. When asked for service dept general mgr. ---oh-he is not available. So now my low mileage truck sits with no repair, appears to be a hazard to drive, GM not standing behind nor has a fix for the computer malfunctions that has been reported widespread on carcomplaints.com, leaves me with a very expensive paper weight that I am fearful to drive. It's another ignition key GM cover up and until enough people die and the feds get involved -- it appears I am driving a truck that is a danger to the road and jessup could care less !!

So far it has only done this under low speed making a tight turn like up to a gas pump or into a parking space the dash and display center will flash on and off and the steering wheel will jerk the other direction so violently it pulls the steering wheel out of your hand. Also on the highway while driving about 20 mph I got a warning something to the effect that steering assist had been reduced drive with caution. Even under low speed it could have been dangerous but I'm afraid at some point this will occur at a higher speed. We bought the vehicle used, the factory warranty is gone but I have an extended warranty. I contacted my local Chevy dealer because I considered a safety defect that should be taken care of beyond the warranty but they claim they know nothing about this as a problem despite the fact I have seen many complaints about this problem documented, that's what prompted me to file a complaint. The vehicle is currently at my mechanic hoping they can find a cause/solution but I think this is something GM/Chevy should be doing a recall on and fixing instead of people having to pay out of pocket or private after market warranty companies having to pay for. I have a video of it doing it on my iphone but didn't know if I could include video and it's currently on my phone and not my laptop. I used 02/01/2017 as occurrence date but I'm not sure of that was the first time or not, we've had vehicle since 12/2016 and it's happened numerous times.

Traveling at approx. 65mph on US17 a divided four lane highway in traffic when the engine shut off with no warning which resulted in complete loss of lights, signals, flashers, horn, and the steering wheel went into locked position. I was able to safely bring the truck to a stop in the grass median. After collecting my thoughts I tried to restart the truck but there was no response and all electrical functions would not operate. About 10 minutes later while I was on my cell phone with a tow service the interior lights cam on along with the radio. The truck started up and after calling the closest GM dealer which happen to be only a few miles away I made my way to the dealership service dept. They were quickly able to identify the problem as GM had issued a service bulletin #pit5405C on this type of issue. It was caused by dashboard fabric trim being caught under a ground post during assembly that resulted in loss of all electrical service. The truck had approx. 40,000 miles at the time of the event and it seems it took either two years or that reasonably low mileage before the problem surfaced. The dealer repaired the problem by simply losing a ground post and trimming out the fabric intrusion. They were great and apologized for what they saw as clearly a defect in manufacturing. They did charge as the truck was out of the 36,000 mile warranty but said I should contact GM customer service for help with the cost. GM refused but it was only about $100 so that is not the issue. How can a company allow this problem to exist and be aware of it ( technical bulletin issued). It is a wonder that I or another motorist on the road with me was not hurt or worse. This not like a truck not starting but total loss of control at highway speed. Thanks [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Event #1: stopped at stoplight on city street to turn left; light changes; tuned steering wheel rapidly to the left & accelerated; crossing in front of traffic, the steering wheel jerked violently to the right out of my hands 3 times till I braked the vehicle to a stop & sat still for 5 seconds; could then steer & drive normally. Event # 2: very next day; backing slowly out of driveway; stopped on street; turned steering wheel slowly to left to proceed down street; steering wheel jerks violently to the right; after braking & sitting for 5 seconds with the engine idling again, was able to proceed. Event # 3: 15 minutes after event #2; again backing slowly to the left to turn around, & then turning the steering wheel to the right to proceed forward, steering wheel jerks violently to the left out of my hands. Again after braking to a stop & sitting at idle for 5 seconds was able to proceed. During all 3 events, the screen displayed "service stabilitrak". this issue "steering wheel jerked violently out of my hands" & "steering locks up (video included) when turning" is frequently discussed on GM forums by owners. One owner appears to have solved it by fixing a poor electrical ground under the dash.

The issue has occurred on two separate occasions. On both occasions the vehicle was in drive and moving. The vehicles steering capabilities malfunctioned and complete loss of steering occurred. After researching online, there were other owners of the same vehicle experiencing steering failure as well. There is video evidence on youtube to prove that this is a serious issue that needs to be corrected immediately. See "2014 Chevy Silverado stabilitrak issues part 4" on youtube to see what exactly is occurring.

When turning into a parking spot the steering locked up, jerking the opposite direction, and referenced a stabilitrak service message. Very scary causing a total lack of control with steering. Found many examples online of this happening to other owners, even video evidence. Took to Chevy and they "could not replicate" so nothing they could do. I traded the truck for a new Ford. Oddly enough my neighbor noticed my new truck and we got to talking. His 2014 GMC 1500 Sierra has had the saw exact issue. I contacted GM with my concern with no help at all. It is clear that this is a known issue with very serious and scary consequences. Please make GM fix before families have tragic accidents caused by the issue.

Vehicle completely shut off when coming to a stop. Loss of steering power, etc. After restarting vehicle and after about 10 miles, the error popped up stating that the theft deterrent system had kicked in and the vehicle steering jerked me into another lane on interstate 485 at roughly 70 miles per hour.. two days later vehicle would not start, but after getting out of the vehicle and re locking and unlocking the door several times, the vehicle started. Today again the vehicle would not start. System stated that the battery was low and that the theft deterrent system was now engaged. Had to jump the vehicle off to get it started again. Had battery checked and it checked out completely fine. It is my feeling that there seems to be an issues with the electrical or a ground somewhere. After reviewing this issue online, there seems to be several other vehicles out there with the same issue. Very dangerous for the steering to completely take over at 70 miles per hour.

After driving the truck for an hour and half I pulled into a parking lot, as I was turning to go down an aisle to park the truck interior lighting on the dash dimmed and the power steering died enough to jerk the steering wheel back and forth while turning. This almost caused me to hit another vehicle since I had no steering. I let the truck sit for a minute and then drove to an empty section of the parking lot and done a few slow figure eights seeing if the issue would happen again. After nothing happened I proceeded back to the parking area and again as I was pulling into a parking space the truck seemed to be losing power and the steering wheel was jerking out of my had uncontrollably to the point I could no longer steer the truck. The screen on the dash said it was caused by traction control but the ground was dry and paved. I again let the truck sit for a minute and was then able to park. After shopping I was able to drive to another stop and then home without any issues. When I was backing down my driveway an error message came up on the screen saying the backup safety devices were unavailable and the light on the dash started dimming again. The steering did not act up during backup mode. The dealer said there was a service bulletin out about the issue related to low voltage codes which they said my truck showed. They said the battery tested fine and Chevrolet would not let them replace anything since they could not reproduce the issues. They did say they were replacing the negative battery cable though but would not say why they were replacing it.

Intermittently the steering wheel will yank from the driver's hands and warning errors for stabilitrak or traction control reported in center info screen, while the mylink screen goes blank. This typically occurs while maneuvering at low speeds in parking situations. The issue appears to be involving the vehicle's electronic steering assist and stability control systems. This is a major safety concern.

Since 05/02/2016 I have been dealing with crazy electrical problems. It started with head lights dimming at random times. Then driving down the road at 55mph with cruise control on, activite turn signal. When turn signal is activated the cruise control would cut off. Simulated 4 times to ensure there was a problem. Continued driving. At 30 mph the air conditioning turned off, all dashboard lights & radio turned off but engine stayed running, 45 seconds later everything turned back on. At this time the wife freaked out & asked to park, scared for her safety & my own. Pulled forward to parallel park, went to put the vehicle in reverse. Before reverse was initiated the truck threw multiple warning lights (service stablitrak, assisted steering, etc). The dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. The steering wheel violently jerked & locked up. Then the engine cut off. Put the truck in park, turned key & started right back up with no warning lights, no low voltage indication and no problems. GMC dealership could not replicate the problem & returned the vehicle to me within 2 days. This happened again on 07/05/2016. This time it was sent to Chevrolet. They reprogrammed the steering wheel position sensor & checked the security of the wire harness. 07/11/2016 the vehicle locked up & shut off again in a starbucks drive through. This time locking myself & my family in the truck for 3 minutes. When ignition was turned, truck would not start, no lights would come on either. The truck acted dead. This time Chevrolet replaced gas pedal. 10/31/16 the truck shutoff & locked up again. This time I took video to prove my case in hopes it would help the dealership. They tested battery and cables. 12/19/2016 it happened again & also smelt burning. Chevy replaced alternator cable & negative battery cable. Could not smell burning. 01/10/17. Engine fire caused by alternator and battery cable

While pulling out of a parking spot, I went to turn right. As turning to the right the service stabilitrak warning appeared on my dash and the steering wheel locked itself and fought against me turning right. The truck was trying to straighten the wheel out against my force of turning. I shut the truck off and restarted it and the problem was gone. Then a few week later while driving my dash and radio screens kept flickering on and off, everytime making a loud click sound. When I got the truck parked, I tried to turn the wheel and it fought against me trying to turn it. The dash read service stabilitrak and assisted power steering is disabled. The radio lost its memory and the truck shut down. A third time it happened while parallel parking, backing up and turning the wheel right, it locked and forced itself back left. Everytime it happens it is moving slow or just had finished moving.

This truck had a steering failure causing a collision and it was a minor front collision. The worse part is Chevrolet denies a problem but the internet is full of complaints. During the collision on the front strangely the curtain airbags is all that deployed leaving driver completely unprotected!!! the steering came back on after. Then I get a notice that the airbag control module is recalled because it may not work or deploy bags wrongfully. That's what happened. The truck has 24000 miles on it and the steering failed in the rain making me swing out almost striking a school bus full of small children. I had it towed to a Chevy dealer after having and photographing with a time stamp 6 codes for a module failure. The Chevy dealer calls and lies to me and did there are no codes or voltage to the motor and it may be a wire from the accident I told them about. The accident was minor and only required minor repair and a bumper. I think General Motors needs a investigation into this and owe me curtain air bags and headliner. This company is irresponsible and defiant in defective moisture sensitive due to lack of sealing according to hundreds and hundreds of internet postings. I owe $34,000 on this junk unsafe product and complained and only get jerked around. Abc news has contacted me back for a story as soon as I here back from you.
