Silverado 1500

  • 115,000 miles
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 25-35 mph with the transmission in third gear, the vehicle decelerated independently. The contact stated that the vehicle shifted into neutral independently while the rpms revved to 4,000. The contact stated that the vehicle shifted independently back in gear and he was able to briefly drive the vehicle before the failure recurred. Lindsay Chevrolet (located at 15605 jefferson davis highway, woodbridge, va 22191, 703-832-4837) was called and informed of the failure. The contact was also informed by the dealer that the failure was possibly due to the failure listed in NHTSA campaign number: 14V374000 (power train); however, the vehicle had already received the one time free repair. The contact was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1150,000.

Truck with just under 34,000 miles would not disengage from four wheel drive. The vehicle was turned off with the transfer case selector in automatic four wheel drive. After it was turned off and before it was restarted, the transfer case went into full time four wheel drive, the truck had an audible noise from transfer case when it was in motion and the transfer case would not change when moving the four wheel drive selector switch. Condition caused drive-ability problems. The correction was to reprogram and set-up the transfer case module which was not covered by Chevrolet even after the servicing dealer asked them for assistance. Since there was an available fix offered by GM with a software update, software programs do not change without intervention and the condition results in drive-ability concerns, I believe these vehicles should be recalled to pro-actively prevent the issue experienced and not wait until the consumer has an issue and then have the customer pay for the repair.

When in motion harsh shifting between gears, sometimes so violent it feels like another car hit me. When accelerating the transmission seems to search for gears, and is sluggish for a high horsepower vehicle. Concerning when trying to accelerate in traffic, transmission hesitates and does not immediately apply power. Had transmission serviced 5 months ago due to shudder and shake between 20-35mph. Transmission fluid flush helped for a few months, but shudder is returning as well.

Bad lifter causes engine failure at 100,006 miles. Engine had to be replaced. Transmission has extremely hard shifts from park to reverse, and slips between 5th and 6th. Doesn't throw any codes so dealer says it's fine.but it's obviously ruining itself. Reading all these transmissions complaints I can't believe it's not recalled

Transmission always shifted hard and finally stopped shifting at all while in motion (backing out of our driveway). Despite taking it a Chevy dealership for 3 years for maintenance, we were never told their was a known issue. When the transmission failed, we took it back to the Chevy dealership and only when we took it to a transmission shop to get a second opinion were we told this was a known factory defect on several GM models. We ended up having to have the transmission rebuilt along with the rear end to the tune of over $5,000. Lemon law does not hold up because we did not have any work done under the warranty (which only covered the first year).

The truck and transmission shift very hard, slip or can't find its home. The problem is the worst between park and reverse, and 1st and 2nd gear around 20mph. I have taken it in multiple times times and told everything is operating to spec. One time I was told they were waiting for guidance from GM, but then forgot about that, and said everything is fine.

When placing the truck in reverse or drive the transmission does not immediately engage. I purchased this truck new and have had two replacement transmissions for this and other issues. Dealer service department said that General Motors calls this delayed engagement. Dealer also stated that there is a bulletin stating they will no longer replace transmissions for delayed engagement. This is unsafe when the vehicle is placed in gear and the accelerator is pressed to get the vehicle to move and it does not move for several seconds and the accelerator is pressed harder to get the vehicle to move but suddenly the vehicle transmission will engage and the vehicle will lunge and unexpected distance. This situation occurs more often when the truck is sitting overnight but can happen other times also. I am familiar with the situation and usually remember to not accelerate and wait an extended time for engagement.

Our transmission is slipping I took it to the dealership and had them drive it they said they were aware of the situation and said they would document the problem that GM is working on a recall notice but it would be January 2019 before anything can be done our truck is now down and we can't wait til January to get the recall notice to get it fixed we depend on this vehicle everyday to go to work now we're down one vehicle the dealership is not trying to help us get our vehicle fixed or replaced without the recall notice. They have several vehicles with the same problem sitting at there dealership 2015-2017 Silverado trucks

Air conditioning not working. Blowing hot due to worn hole in hose (thousands of known issues all with exactly the same symptoms and fixes... E X a C T L Y!!!!!!) called chev, the guy said NHTSA tells them what to pay for and what to recall so they're hands are clean of this issue. Pardon"???? worn hole? check bad condenser? check no bracket? check dealership/manufacturer participation? no way in hell! this is absolutely terrible business and there's no way the attorney general, the better business bureau and anyone else I can call are not going to hear about this. Oh yeah, the A/C never gets used, otherwise I would've had it fixed 20K miles ago under warranty but I didn't know it wasn't working. There's residue on the hoses from the leak which the dealership should've caught but they didn't. maybe I go that route"

Truck shakes severely when driving at speeds above 70 mph on many different road types. This problem started not too long after I got my truck new. After complaining about it the service department said this is "standard 22 inch wheel vibration." After I had about 35000 miles on it the vibration got so bad I couldn't stand to drive on the freeway. Took it back to the dealer and they said the tires were wore out even though there was still plenty of tread. Had another shop look at it and they found one of the wheels was ever so slightly bent. Took it back to the dealer to confirm. They sold me a new wheel, the problem didn't go away or change in any way. I bought new tires as they recommended, problem was still there but not so severe until after driving a few thousand miles. The more miles I put on the tires the worse the vibration gets. Took it back into the dealer again recently, they keep telling me it's standard vibration for 22 inch wheels. I know this is bogus because I know a few people with the exact same wheels and tires that don't have the shaking problem, they can drive as fast as they want and it's smooth. Everybody that rides with me asks what is wrong with my truck. How can I convince the dealer that there is an actual problem?

I had an issue with the transfer case got stuck in 4hi and at the time it had a recall so I took it to the dealer located less than 20 miles of my house I never got over 45 mph while stuck in 4hi dealer did recall which fixed the problem for about 7 months then when I was hauling a 18 ft car hauler with a small truck on it and I only had to haul it 30 miles to my house I was about a 1/4 mile from my driveway and the rear end popped really loud 1 time and then all of a sudden it started grinding and I shut the truck off and called roadside and had it towed to dealer and I received a call from the dealer they said that the spider gears had broken and it was going to cost 3000 for a new rear end do to the cross pin retaining bolt had broken inside the differential carrier assembly I decline the service because I didn't see why I had to pay if I still have warranty on it and I had another rear differential carrier assembly and had it installed which it worked fine except that the when the original rear end broke it said service 4WD and it still said that when I got the rear end fixed and I took to the dealer and they told me that it would cost 130 just to look at it and if they found anything wrong with it that that 130 would go toward repairs and as I said before it is still under warranty and is only got 47000 miles and I took it to a friend's shop that has a snap on computer and pulled codes and researched the codes and what I found was that the transfer case shift module re learned or reprogrammed and that would fix the issue which a lot of other 2014/15 Silverado owners have had the same issue with the transfer case and relearning or reprogramming fixed the issue.
