Silverado 1500 Hybrid 8-cyl

  • 100,990 miles
While using a 12V air pump plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet with the vehicle off and no key in ignition, it shortly stopped working. Soon after smoke starting coming from behind the dash trim. I quickly disconnected the battery and pulled off the front trim housing the cigarette lighter to find the wire's insulation melted. I then looked for the fuse for that and found it to be melted as well. The fuse was rated at 15A, and the correct fuse recommend by GM. After pulling the fuse, I reconnected the battery and had no more smoke. Using a continuity tester, I checked both wires for, and confirmed, short to ground on both. The entire line of wires going back to the fuse box may be just as melted and thus still shorting to ground.

I was driving the vehicle at normal speeds and I have had this vehicle for about 6 months and never have had a problem with it. All the sudden I get a message that says "service air bag". I took the truck to the dealer and they diagnosed it and they said that the truck needs a new front drivers side impact sensor that went bad. This truck has never been in an accident and the airbags have never been deployed. They told me that if this repair does not get done, if I have an accident the airbags wouldn't deploy.

Silverado 1500 Hybrid 8-cyl Diesel

  • 40,000 miles
This truck has experienced two fuse block failures since new. The symptom, in both cases, was the truck would not start. Both repairs were accomplished at brown and brown Chevrolet in mesa Arizona. The first repair occurred in 2008 and the second repair occurred in 2012. When reimbursement was requested for the second failure, the brown and brown service person and the GM customer care person both denied warranty coverage because there are third-party devices installed in the vehicle. There is an alarm system and a kenwood stereo, with a GM module, installed that were deemed third-party. There is also a cb radio but it was not cited. All vehicle equipment is powered through fuses on the fuse block. None of the fuses were found to be blown by brown and brown, including the ones powering the third-party equipment. The fuse block"S intent is to distribute power to such devices and protect the wiring with its installed fuses. Properly connected equipment may blow a fuse but cannot stress the fuse block to failure. I requested the ?bad" fuse block in both cases and have disassembled the second one. I found loose power pins and no evidence of burning or arcing. The design permits the power pins to loosen over time, causing intermittent connections. This intermittent connection was verified by brown and brown; they said that simply leaning on the fuse block would cause the engine to stop. This is not an effect of third party equipment but is a design defect of the fuse block.

The service airbag light came on, and I had it checked, was told the front sensor was bad. Called the Chevy dealer and was told they only have to be replaced if in a crash. I've had wiring problems and a recall on the blower wiring. I think Chevrolet should have to check into the problem, because on the internet there are a number of owners with the same airbag problem. Sounds like a safety issue to me. Chevrolet said for a price they will check it. They make it sound like it's the owner's fault, and the more money they can get the better. Sounds like their motto is (money before safety) something needs to be done to help the consumers.

Driving down the road and the cab filled up with smoke. It smelled like burning rubber. I had to evacuate my youngest son and found that the wires on the blower/resistor where on fire. There seems to be a known issue with this and I am surprised that nobody had been killed so far. Looks like the recall was done in Canada?

Speedometer stopped functioning. It displays I'm driving @ 120 mph and gets stuck there, when I'm only going approximately 30-40 mph. This is ridiculous that there is no recall on this malfunction as I see there are plenty of compliants with same issue. How can I drive safely without knowing the speed limit I'm going.

Silverado 1500 Hybrid

My truck as dual ac controls, while driving the driver side air blows hot air while air conditioner is on. If you turn the truck off and then back on it fixes the problem for sometime 2min and sometimes 30 min. I know multiple people that have the same problem as me, I have seen hundreds of people on forums that have the same problem with the same truck and others such as the Tahoe, Avalanche, Suburban of same year and different years. Some forums that I have read stated that the truck could catch fire, I am very concerned about the situation, most people say that the parts to fix the problem are around $500 - $700, but this is occurring in hundreds if not thousands of GM vehicles.

A private mechanic repaired the resistor in October 2008; however, the failure occurred again. Silverado 1500 Hybrid

  • 64,000 miles
I was driving along when the cab filled with smoke and a burning plastic smell. I saw smoke come from under the passenger side dashboard. The blower motor resistor harness had caught fire. I was able to put it out with damage to only the harness and resistor. It was replaced under the extended warranty I had purchased from GM. Fast forward to May 9, 2010 and 50,000 miles later, the same thing happened and GM corporate told me there was nothing they could do even though this same model vehicle has been recalled in Canada for the same problem. I was quoted $300 for the repair. On May 10.2010, my dealer called and said he received an E-mail from GM stating that GM was in the process of offering a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty on the blower motor and harness repair. Have not received any notice from GM yet but dealer said they would fix it no charge.
