For quite some time, our 2005 Chevrolet Silverado would have an odor and the #5 position on the fan for heater would stop working, then start again. Recently it completely stopped at all levels. We can no longer circulate heat or ac in the vehicle. We checked the blower motor resistor unit, it had melted and also melted the wiring harness up under the dash. We now have to replace both units at great expense to us., not to mention this could have caused a fire...we usually have some grandchildren strapped in car seats...which would have been quite dangerous to them, had it caught on fire. This has been going on for some time, not just the mileage indicated.

While parked the blower motor for the climate system continued to run. The keys were removed, engine off. Upon discovery I could not turn off the blower. I decided to take it to a shop. Before I could leave the parking lot the cab was full of a thick white smoke. I was able to shut the engine off and disconnect the battery before a fire started. The dealership said it was a common problem. There is no recall on it though as the dealer is not reporting the occurrences to GM so nobody is aware of the frequency. An easy internet search returns many occurrences of similar problems.

Fan motor resistor melted causing plastic to burn and smoke badly part cost $100 for the wiring $80 for the resistor $160 labor. With all the tax dollars given to GM they were not willing to help with this known problem. They said they change these everyday. There was actually two of them sitting on the parts counter ready to be replaced for someone else when I walked in. This is a true safety problem and we would like some help.

The wiring harness to the blower motor resistor in my 2005 Chevrolet started smoking, from excess heat within the wiring to the harness or resistor. I have since replaced the harness and resistor, but it still does the same thing. Hopefully this faulty wiring harness is the only one in these models.

My blower motor wiring melted and almost caught fire. I had it replaced under warranty once. 15 months later the same thing happened. I am smart enough to disconnect it before it caused a fire but it is no longer under warranty. The second time it happened it would not shut off after I turned the engine off and pulled the key. Had I not known how to disconnect it my truck surely would have been damaged.

I was driving to work, had lower and heat on. First I smelled something burning, then I noticed smoke coming from behind glove box and through the passenger dash vents. I had my truck towed to the dealer. I started the truck again while there and noted same problem. I turned my truck off and the blower and took my keys out of the ignition, but the blower continued to smoke. I had to call the fire department who came out, disconnected the battery and found burned wires behind the glove box. The dealer blamed it on a resistor and a wiring harness connected to the blower motor which burned out. They replaced the blower connector and resistor. I asked twice for the defective parts to be returned to me but the dealer did not comply with my request. The truck has a strong smell of smoke in it upon its return to me.

I am the owner of 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 truck. About a month or less ago my speedometer quit working stays on 120 or 0 whether it is parked or while driving it. We called the dealer that we bought this truck new from and the maintenance man said it was under warr up to 70,000 miles which my mileage is 46711. The next day we recv a call saying it is not under warr because of our VIN # is not covered. The dealer gave me a # to call GM motors and I have talked with several people there and all are saying the VIN# is not good only some VIN#'s are under the 7 year or 70,000. I drive my truck to work only, do monthly maint on it through walmart, I feel this is a safety concern for me since I feel it a defect on the truck and either GM or the dealer needs to replace this part@ their cost not mine. They can not give me a reason why only some VIN#S are covered. I have checked on the internet and it shows alot of people with the same problem as mine. Hope you can help me with this thank you.

My 2005 Chevrolet Silverado has a defective speedometer. It started around 45,000 miles and only happened a few times. Now it happens about every other day and the only way to reset it is to stop the vehicle and turn it off and start it back up. This only resets it about 5mph each time I restart the vehicle so I will have to do it as many as 10 to 15 times to get it back to zero.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 20 mph on normal road conditions, smoke expelled from the instrument panel without warning. Immediately, the driver pulled over to inspect underneath the hood and disconnected the battery. Suddenly, flames erupted from the instrument panel. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. A report was filed. There were no personal injuries or property damage. The vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to a collision center. The cause of the failure has not been determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 55,000.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer would malfunction intermittently. While driving 20 mph, the speedometer would indicate that she was driving 60 mph. When the vehicle would be parked, the speedometer would indicate that the vehicle was being driven at 120 mph. The failure would usually correct itself or reset after a couple of hours; however, it recently became stuck and failed to reset. The dealer could not assist because the vehicle was outside of the warranty. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 64,000 and failure mileage was approximately 63,800.

Speedometer was working fine then started to speed up when I wasn't. it happen everyday. I try to get my cruise set before it starts so not to get a ticket for speeding. Dealer told me to call GM, who in so many words said I would have to pay for the repair, I don't think that a part like this is not like a battery or tires that wear out over a giving amount of time. GM should fix the problem at no cost to the owner. I have about 46,000 miles on the truck. Just got the prices last week, $400 to $500 to fix. Lets say it's not fixed yet.

The speedometer in my 2005 Silverado acts erratically. Reads incorrect speed. Will stop on 80mph when vehicle is standing still. I can no longer rely on the speedometer to accurately display current speed. From online research I found that this is an ongoing problem, since 2003. My truck has approximately 66,000 miles on it currently. The problem first started at around 60,000 miles. It creates an unsafe condition, since I can not determine the correct vehicle speed.
