My dashboard has multiple cracks in the dashboard, and my vehicle stays in a garage with the windows cracked to prevent overheating. I have had these cracks since my vehicle was under warranty and GM will not replace it. If I want it fixed I have to pay out of pocket. I have major concerns with the dash turning to shrapnel if the airbag deploys. My vehicle is under the takata recall, as well. The dealership has no concerns with this issue. They have no idea when they can fix my airbag.

The truck was sitting parked in the driveway and my neighbor noticed that the lights and wipers came on (truck was not on, no keys were in it, nobody was in it or near it!). smoke then began to billow out from under the hood and a fire started. My neighbor was able to disconnect the battery and put out the fire. I had the truck towed to a garage where they told me that the fuse panel caught on fire. They called GM and was told there was no recall for the part. Dealing with insurance now.

I currently own a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado ltz crew cab with approximately 96K miles I have owned this car for about a year now since purchasing a noticed a crack on the driver side dashboard under the instrument cluster and on the passenger side next to the passenger air bag. Also the two door handles one being the driver front and the other being passenger front the chrome finish seems to be defective and not staying adhered O the handle and come off in sharp edges making it easy to cut you hand. As the dealership knows this is a defect in the manufacture they used on these trucks the 2 issues on here are not just on 1 vehicle but numerous Silverado Tahoe and trucks with the same dash and handles. It seems like they pose a safety issue because the handle may cut you and the dash may project sharp pieces if jagged plastic if involved in a collision. Myself and many others feel that the General Motors knows about the safety issues and as the vehicle manufactures should do the right thing and fix a defective and dangerous product they put out with the form of a recall. I've seen this issue range from trucks between 2008-2012 with 1- 10000000 miles.

After unlocking the manual door lock on the truck the interior door handle would not open the door. The lock was disconnected from the interior locking mechanism, effectively trapping me in my vehicle. At this time I unrolled the window and used the key in the outside door to try to unlock the door, but the lock was jammed and I was unable to leave my vehicle using either the inside or the outside handle or locks or the driver door. I was forced to exit the vehicle from the passenger side door. This is a recurring problem and seems to occur most often after rainfall or a car wash. This is a serious safety concern in the event of a collision, car fire or water crash or other emergency that could potentially be fatal and should be recalled to protect people from being trapped in their vehicles. It is also notable that consumer reports has listed "locks and latches" as a common problem area for a 2009 Silverado. I contacted a Chevrolet dealership and they refused fully cover the repair cost, which was well over $250 and they stated that the "door lock actuator was defective". the corporate GM phone call center was not helpful and told me it would not be fully covered because my vehicle was just out of bumper to bumper warranty. I believe this should be recalled to protect consumers.
