Traveling at slow speeds, the brakes would not work (anti-lock activating) causing long stopping distance or had to stomp brake peddle several times to get vehicle to stop. No major accidents but second time I ran over sidewalk I took car to service center (not dealer) and they disconnected anti-lock brakes and have not had any further trouble. Mechanic said the brake sensors (speed sensors?) would need to be replaced.

While braking on dry pavement approaching a crosswalk the ABS system chatters and allows the vehicle to roll ahead without warning. Complete failure has not occurred but twice I have come dangerously close to hitting a person in the crosswalk. Problem has not been repaired, but to avoid further occurence the fuse for ABS has been pulled out resulting in conventional positive braking.

The consumer vehicle had problem with it's ABS brakes. While coming to a stop below 5 mph the ABS would kick in while on dry pavement. The vehicle was taken to the dealer Nov.2004 to be fixed. The dealer cleaned the sensor mounts of rust and retested and it showed that the left side was out of limits. The road test showed no unwanted ABS stops. This has happen to the consumer one time within the last month. The consumer has the service invoices.

MY1999 Chevrolet Silverado 4WD had 48,00 miles on it when problems started. In good weather on dry smooth roads my ABS would engage while I was stopping or slowing in a normal manner. Even though this was somewhat surprising I did not feel that the stopping distance was being compromised. Then an incident occured while my wife and I were turning into a parking space at a retail store. As I was turning into the parking space I applied the brakes to solw the vehicle and it felt like I had no brakes, the pedal was very hard to push, felt like it would not move like it was stuck, and there was no braking action. I immediately believed that I was going to strike the vehicle ahead of me and continued to push the brake pedal with greater force. The result is that all of a sudden the brake moved forward and the antilock brakes engaged. The truck stopped before I struck the other vehicle. A good mechanic explained that his experience with chevry truck ABS throwing false signals was that the sensors were probably dirty and needed cleaned. As a simple check of the ABS I removed the 60 amp fuse for the antilock brake system. My brakes work very well now and I have not had a problem. I have not scheduled an appointment to get the problem fixed and after reading that your organization is now conducting an investigation into problems with Chevrolet truck antilock brake failures I intend to leave the system as it is now until you finish your investigation. The motor continued to run after the vehicle was shut off. The dealer did not cooperate until a recall was placed on the vehicle. The vehicle was equipped to start itself but if the vehicle begun to move, the only way to stop it was to pull the electrical impulse or pull one of the two fuses that went with the ABS system, and would make the vehicle stop. The other fuse indicated whether or not the vehicle was running on the dashboard. The consumer has had other recall work done to the vehicle in reference to the transmission in which they replaced the driveshaft.

Approximately 2 years ago in the summer while coming to a stop sign he pushed on the brake pedal, he heard and felt the ABS kick in, he could not stop. I began to notice that as I applied my brakes to come to stops at stop signs or destination arrivals that the anti-lock brakes would deploy. 2. the anti-lock brakes would activate when coming to a stop when they should not have (the wheels were not slipping). My '99 Silverado had the brake failure problem (anti-lock brakes not working at very low speeds) that I see is now being investigated. I took it to the Chevy dealer, and was told it was a common problem. I was required to pay to have it fixed. I suspect this was never reported by GM.

The ABS malfunctioned. The system engaged without cause, resulting in the service brakes not working when depressed. When this occurred, the consumer has to pump the brake pedal several times to stop the vehicle. The dealership indicated that this occurred because the sensor on the front wheels gets corroded, causing the system to mis read. Therefore the system indicates that the vehicle is on ice when it isn't and the ABS engages. The dealership cleaned the front wheel sensor assembly. The dealership indicated that there's a recall on this problem but only for vehicles assembled in Canada. Consumer concern when coming to a stop the ABS system will activate caused by unwanted ABS activation.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet C/K 2500 5 speed pickup, and the antilock braking system is failing to opert. Properly. I have replaced all of the front and rear pads, and shoes. Along with rear drums, front rotors and all of the lines. And I have a problem that GM will not help me repair the defect on vehicle, and that no recall is out for this vehicle. The problem is when I try to stop in any condition dry or wet roads, low or high speeds the ABS braking system fails by making a loud growlling song, and locks the brakes on one side of the vehicle. I have taken it to several dealers and priv. Shops and they are unable to repair the problem. And have know information on what is causing the brakes to lock. This is the second time to replace the parts within five months. And somethink needs to be done. My father-in-law also has the same year of work truck and is having the same problem. The problem has not caused and crash due to driver safty but needs to be looked at. For if an inexperienced driver may lead to failure with possible injury.

While driving down a bumpy dirt road at approximately 20 mph driver applied the brakes and they grabbed. Then made a grinding sound and released, resulting in extended stopping distance. Owner took vehicle to two different dealerships, yet neither were successful in remedying the problem. Owner contacted the manufacturer, and they were not giving the owner any assistance.
