2000 Chevrolet 1500 Z71 4X4 - went to stop at a stop sign and brake pedal went to the floor. Had truck towed to the garage and found brake lining was rusted out. The truck only had 42,000 original miles on it at the time of incident! garage told me I should have all the brake lining replaced do to very rusty and the rest of the lining could brake or leak at anytime. After reading all of these other complaints on here about the brake lining issues, I very surprised how lucky we all were actually not being in a very serious accident! this needs to be addressed GM before the luck runs out for someone else!

Brake line blew under normal driving conditions. I have recently been advised that all of my lines need replaced due to rust and could possibly blow unexpectedly. I have been quoted about $500 for parts and up to $800 for labor depending on the difficulty. I do not live in an area with a lot of salt applied to the roads. I am the original owner.

I approaching a stop light at an intersection and the brake pedal went to the floor with little to no stopping power.I was forced to drive off the road into a dirt embankment.I was lucky it was 5:45am and light traffic as I would have hit any vehicle if there was one stopped in front of me.the cause of the loss of brakes was rusted front brake line that burst without warning.these trucks should be recalled as my mechanic has repaired many Chevy/GMC trucks of this vintage with the same rusted brake line problems.

My oldest son was driving my 2000 Chevy 2500 pickup truck when the brake pedal almost went all the way to the floor of the truck. He narrowly missed rear ending the car in front of him. He was able to drive very slowly home with a very mushy feeling brake pedal. When I inspected the truck I found that the brake lines had rusted so bad the brake line had ruptured and was leaking fluid under the drivers side door.

Brake lines rusted out. I was coming up to a light and started to slow down and next thing I knew my brake pedal was pressed to the floor and I was still coasting down the road. There was a box truck just ahead of me and luckily he was in the turning lane so that left a lane open for me. There wasn't any cross traffic coming and I blew threw the red light and was able to come to a stop at a nearby parking lot. Scared the S*** out of me especially when I have my daughter in the truck.

Brake line rusted through directly beneath the driver's side frame near the ABS pump/module. Stream of fluid shooting out. Further inspection showed all lines corroded, covered in rust...even in locations where exposure to moisture and salt does not occur. Does not make sense..my wife's Ford escape is close to same year, not a speck of rust...must be bad material or bad routing...or better material and protection from elements on escape...is there a recall for this" Ford recalled our escape recently to protect against rust out of steering components? will GM do the same for brakes? my 2003 Suburban has same issue...every line covered in rust...regardless of location...but no burst yet...crossing fingers it is still safe to drive...how much rust is ok to have on my lines? has GM said "

A brake line burst due to rust and corrosion, almost resulting in a rear end crash. I had to take the truck into the berm to avoid the crash. After inspection all the brake lines were corroded and rusty and had to be replaced. Also found that the fuel lines were also rusted, corroded and leaking. They also had to be replaced.

Truck experienced total brake failure while pulling into a parking spot. Service station inspected brakes and found all metal brake lines rusted and leaking brake fluid. Please note the relatively very low mileage of the vehicle at the time of the incidence suggesting major material defects. According to a published report from April 5, 2010 (see: wot.motortrend.com/NHTSA-probes-19992003-GM-trucks-for-possible-rusted-brake-lines-8152.html) NHTSA is investigating this issue.

I had just picked up a trailer at U haul and was driving down the hill in front of their store to finish signing the paperwork. At the bottom of the hill I began to apply the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. I came close to running into the U haul building but the truck finally stopped just in time. I put the truck in park and got out to see what happened. I went to the front of the truck, looked under and saw nothing. I went to the back of the truck and looked under and there was fluid steadily dripping and a huge puddle of brake fluid under the truck. I disconnected the trailer and called a friend to pick me up. Once I got the truck home, I began searching for the source of the leak (at this point I thought I had busted a brake hose) I quickly realized this was not a brake hose that had ruptured. The brake line that runs past the gas tank and rear differential was rusted through and had a hole in it. All of the brake lines were rusting in the rear of the vehicle. I took a picture of the line with the hole and went off to the Chevrolet dealership. Once at the dealership, I was told by the young man working the parts counter that Chevrolet did not sell replacement brake lines. He told me that I would have to buy bulk brake tubing and make my own lines. I let him know that the line that ruptured on my truck had over 20 bends on it and that the last four bends would be very difficult to bend by hand. I got nowhere with Chevrolet on replacement parts. I wound up ordering new stainless steel lines from inline tube. I replaced all the brake lines. While taking the fuel tank out so I could install the new brake lines......it was discovered that all of the fuel lines were rusting also. I replaced them as well. Chevrolet should not be using subpar materials for anything. Poor quality brake and fuel lines will get someone seriously hurt!! shame on Chevrolet :(

I was traveling down a road at 20 mph and went to apply my brakes as we were approaching a red light. The brake pedal went right to the floor without warning and I was involved in a 4 car accident caused by a total brake system failure. The vehicle was towed to the garage and a majority of the brake lines had to be replaced due to rusting. The brake lines rusted at the intersection to the brake module mid vehicle so when the front lines failed, the pressure boost to the rear lines caused them to also fail. So the concept of dual brake systems was defeated due to a single point failure problem. Also, the brake fluid saturated the rear brake rotors so the emergency brake was non functional. The vehicle was a 2000 Silverado which was a $35000 vehicle where the brake lines lasted 7 years. I also own a 1987 S-10 pickup used in the same environment and the brake lines do not exhibit the corrosion seen on my Silverado brake lines. Obviously GM used substandard brake lines in the construction of the 2000 Silverado. I own two vehicles made by the same company and used in the same environment. Therefore, it is not an environmental issue that causes the brake line failure. The official comment from GM that rusted brake lines are not a safety issue because the vehicle can be stopped with a dual braking system is incorrect because when the rusted brake lines fail, both braking systems fail and the vehicle cannot be stopped safely.

I have problems with my brakes and steering when I am braking and turning right or left. The power steering completely go out. I have to use all me strength to turn the steering wheel. Once you complete the turn and let off the brake the power steering comes back the steering wheel jerks back in place. I have replaced the booster, supply lines on brakes, power steering pump and supply lines and truck stills has same problem. The mechanics tell me that it is a design problem and Chevrolet will not recall and repair. All owners of these trucks need help as this is a very dangers problem. I have just seen on the news that Chevrolet is recalling a lot of vehicles and my model needs to be recalled and repaired also.

The brake pedal went to the floor, due to a hole in the brake line caused by external corrosion. Luckily it was not at a stop street, or there would have been an accident. It occurred on the highway, so my wife was able to slowly drive home. I had to have all of the steel lines replaced for the vehicle to be safely driven again.

Was backing boat trailer into water and brake pedal got very soft. No accident the trailer was empty and the truck stopped. Pulled the boat out of the water up the hill, tried to stop on flat ground and the brake pedal went to the floor. The brakes worked somewhat, but now well. Found a brake line rusted through near the left rear wheel, brake flood running out freely. Was able to clamp off line and leave removed trailer to get truck to a repair shop. Several lines looked rusty at the time. A second line has ruptured since then. It is one that is on the frame rail under the cab.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the engine was started and the brakes were applied, but the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic, who stated that three of the brake lines were rusted and became fractured, allowing all of the brake fluid to leak from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 106,000. The VIN was not available.

Upon backing up to leave a parking lot, it was immediately apparent there was a loss of brake pedal, I.e. the brake pedal went to the floor. There was enough brake left to come to a stop and to drive to the nearest repair shop, but definitely not safe to continue driving beyond that. There was no indication prior that the brakes were failing. After inspection the repair shop estimated that at least 3 of the brake lines rusted through.
