While braking, if the truck hits a bump or rough surface, occasionally you can feel a vibration in the brake pedal and it has no stopping power. You can let up on brake, then re-apply and stopping power is provided. I am told by the Chevrolet dealer, where I purchased the truck, that this is a problem with the anti-lock braking. When I asked about a recall on this, I was told there was none.

problem #18

Mar 222002

(reported on)

Silverado 2500 4WD Diesel

  • miles
The problem is when coming to a stop (under braking) if you don't come to a complete and total stop and you decide to switch back to the accelerator, the truck free revs for about half a second and then dumps the transmission in gear. While this has yet to cause me any dangerous problems, I believe it very well could in the rain or ice/snow. If you're not prepared for it, sometimes it hits hard enough that for a moment you're somewhat disoriented, representing a dangerous situation if there's other traffic around.

Rear end is noisy, U-joints have been replaced, however noise reoccured, consumer states Chevrolet has a U-joint and bearing problem.

problem #13

Nov 072001

Silverado 2500 4WD

  • miles
I was traveling westbound on state route 262 at approximately 32 miles per hour when I encountered a stopped vehicle. I applied the brakes and the vehicle began an initial brake and then lurched forward without my releasing my foot from the brake pedal. This caused me to strike the vehicle in front of me. The air bags did not deploy nor did the seat belt properly restrain me. This caused me to strike the steering wheel with my chest and stomach. The hamilton county police office documented that the air bags and the seatbelt did not properly function. I was sited for following to close even though I feel that the brakes failed. I plan to appeal the ticket due to this reasoning in court on November 29, 2001. The safey of other owners/drivers of these vehicles is what prompted me to write. I would like to know if there have been other failures. Please send them to my E-mail address: Mbrusman@cinergy.com thanks for your time and attention with this matter.

problem #12

Sep 192001

Silverado 2500 4WD

ABS brakes, do not stop. I was going 40mph and a flock of turkey was in the road, I put on my brakes and they went to the floor. Thank god that there was no oncoming traffic. Your brakes are there to stop you, not to go to the floor and travel about another 100 feet. I know there has been alot of complaints about these brakes, and my dealer said my brakes are fine. I guess it will take people getting killed in order for someone to adress this problem. Another problem>>> I have this clucking nosie in the rear of my truck, it sounds like the rear of the truck is going to fall off. A dealer stated that the drive-shaft yolk was dry, they removed drive-shaft and lubed yolk. Problem is worse than it was before. This is a 2001 brand new truck, I should not be having all these problems.
