When coming to a complete stop while parking I noticed that the brake pedal went completely to the floor. I parked and got out of my vehicle and looked under the vehicle and noticed brake fluid coming out of the rear driver side. The brake line was completely rusted through. I had the line replaced but the other lines are also looking rusted. I do not use my vehicle off road or long distance driving, just around town. This is a serious issue with the safety of the vehicle.

Vehicle is currently at the "bayside Chevrolet" dealer in prince frederick, md. Sorry, I don't know the exact mileage but is approx. 156,000. I was at an enterprise rental car facility helping my daughter pickup her rental car. I had to put the car in my name since she is under 21. So my daughter went into my truck to drive it home (2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 4X4). When she pushed the brake and put it in reverse, the brake pedal went to the floor. I walked over to the vehicle when she called me over and noticed lots of brake fluid on the ground near the driver side door. A tow truck was called and it was towed to the dealer mentioned above where it is now. I briefly looked under the truck and noticed severe corrosion on the brake lines and brake fluid all over the under-side. The dealer called me and said all the brake lines need to be replaced. They asked me "do you go off-road"", I said "no". then they asked "did you run over any large objects?", I said "no". then she said "maybe rodents""; ok, lets not get ridiculous, I thought. The estimate is $1,300. I asked them to not do repairs until my insurance inspector can document the damage for a claim I submitted. Brake line erupted leaving me in an unsafe situation with no warning and putting me at risk. I went to apply the brakes entering a controlled intersection and my brake pedal felt different as it went all the way to the floor and barely stopped my 2002 2500hd Chevrolet silveraldo crew cab truck. Pumping the brakes had no positive effect on stopping my vehicle. Brake warning light did not display after brake line failure. No brakes and no brake warning indicator. There is property damage to my truck and my house due to this brake line failure.

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, brakes went out, brake lines are rusty, and burst on one of the lines, I see NHTSA probes 1999-2003 GM trucks for possible rusted brake lines back in March of 2010 what became of it? this is a very dangerous problem, this vehicle is used to tow and had that been the case when the brakes went out someone could have been hurt and or killed. This is not the only rusty brake line I have seen I also have a 2000 Chevrolet Impala that had the same problem, as my wife was driving to work she had to stop for a school bus, when she went to stop was unable thank god the children did not have to cross the road way to load on the bus. We were also lucky the lines burst on the Silverado in the driveway, and it was very lucky it did not happen the week prior, I was towing with it. There needs to be a recall on this issue and it needs to been done right away before some one gets killed. The vehicle continued in motion until the gear was shifted into neutral and eventually the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact inspected the vehicle and detected that the brake line exhibited severe rust corrosion. NHTSA currently has an open investigation related to the failure associated with action number EA11001 (service brakes, hydraulic: Foundation components hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

I own a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 hd 4X4. In the past couple of months my ABS has been activating at low speeds for no reason (conditions dry with no water and ice). It causes me to slow earlier than normal to prevent stopping too late. I have been researching this and it appears that it may be covered by a recall (PE05020). I live in Maryland and am not yet sure if my state is covered. I bought my vehicle second hand from a Chevy dealer 6/29/04 and have not received a recall notice (I have received others in the past). Filing this and contacting my dealer in case NHTSA thinks md should not be covered. The failure occurs daily and causes longer stopping distance.

Another driver pulled out in front of me and when I applied my brakes a brake line burst and I lost my brakes and almost ran into the other driver who pulled in front of me. I went into the ditch to avoid hitting the other driver. I took me truck to my mechanic and he said the brake lines were rusted and that's why they failed. They all need replaced so this doesn't happen again.

2002 Chevrolet Silverado - 2nd brake line failure in past 6 months. Avoided accident by pulling into parking lot. All brake lines extremely corroded. You currently have an investigation into this problem - here is another case. All brake lines need to be replaced. According to dealer, they have no service bulletins on this, and it will cost "thousands of dollars". this is a pickup with 40K miles on it. My wife could have been seriously injured by the total loss of brakes she experienced. This problem warrants an immediate recall!

Total brake failure. Completely rusted through brake lines. Rear wheel drums rusted through, backing plate and emer. Brake rotted away. Nearly causing a severe accident on interstate. I was unable to stop my vehicle, and had to coast to a stop. Fortunately, I was not in traffic, and no one was injured. The potential was there for a serious accident. I wrote to GM twice in June, they never acknowledged either letter.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact was traveling 50 mph when he applied the brakes and the brake pedal went into the floorboard. The brakes did not respond. The contact applied the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed for the failure. The contact stated that the rear rotors were entirely rusted three years prior to the failure. The current and failure mileage was 49,000. Updated 3/8/11 the consumer stated he noticed brake fluid was leaking from two of the steel brake lines and they were completely corroded. The front brake line ruptured which was located below the drivers seat on the outside of the frame rail and the rear brake line had ruptured as well, which was located on the drivers side wheel well. All seven brake lines along the fuel lines showed some degree of corrosion and needed to be replaced.

The failure would cause an increase in braking distance and time that it took to stop the vehicle. The ABS warning light was also illuminated. The contact stated that the brake pedal would intermittently vibrate and the contact would have to repeatedly pump the brakes in order to stop the failure. The brake pads and rotors were replaced by an independent repair facility yet the ABS warning light remained illuminated. The failure recurred within three days of the repair. The contact stated that he did not feel safe driving the vehicle to an authorized dealer which was several miles from his residence. The manufacturer was contacted three times and would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 104,000.

The ABS is engaging at low speeds when on dry pavement making my stopping distance longer. It has occurred approx 3-4 times over the last 5 days. This is the same problem that was addressed under NHTSA campaign id number : 05V379000. When that recall came out the issue was addressed by the dealer but now the same issue is occurring and General Motors is refusing to service the vehicle w/O any cost, saying they did what the recall required. I feel this is a safety issue that was not properly fixed when the recall came out. Thank you
