Vehicle was serviced per recall below on 1/26/2006. ABS sensor was inspected and cleaned, but not replaced. Defect covered in recall is now being displayed by vehicle (braking distance is extended at low speed - caused by ABS sensor malfunction). Vehicle is currently not driveable. Apparently the solution in the recall was not sufficient to address the problem. Dealer and Chevrolet refuse to address this problem. Recommend that the effectiveness of the recall solution be re-evaluated. NHTSA action number: 05V379000 NHTSA recall campaign number: PE05020 make: Chevrolet model: Suburban manufacturer : General Motors llc model year : 2001 component(s) : service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module.

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving 35 mph in the rain, the ABS light illuminated. When the contact turned off the engine, it made a humming sound. He disconnected the module and the humming stopped. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer the following day and they replaced the module under warranty. Three years later, the failure recurred. He purchased the third module and had it replaced by a local mechanic. Three weeks ago, the contact noticed that the turn signals on his vehicle were intermittently illuminating. As of June 12, 2008, the vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 80,000. Updated 07/08/08. The consumer also stated there was a delayed engagement from reverse to drive. Updated

The ABS electronic module failed again today. This will be my second module. The first module failed in 2004 and was replaced. The cost of replacing these has risen to over $1200 a pop. Why doesn't NHTSA investigate these failures? this module failure results in no ABS when you need it in a crisis situation.

Ltr re his 2001 Suburban which caught on fire after noticing the ABS system sensor appearing on the dash board; seeking reimbursement for repairs. When the consumer attempted to start the vehicle, he discovered the battery was dead. After the consumer jump started the vehicle, that was when the vehicle caught on fire. The consumer had the vehicle towed and was informed the ABS was bad, but it was not the cause of the fire. The cause was a computer system that had overheated as a result of the ABS malfunction. The consumer had replaced the ABS module previously. The dealer replaced the electronic brake control module and brake pressure modulator.

Took 2001 Suburban in November 2005 to wilton Chevrolet, wilton, ct, for GM ABS brake recall, fixing brake terminals for possible corrosion in northeastern states. Dec. 05 - October 2006 ABS dashboard light would come on sporadically for short time and then go off with no reasoning. From August - October 2006 ABS light would come on more frequently. After taking the vehicle to local repair shop they hooked up to computer and found vault code with ABS module, ($99 charge), but said that I would have to take to GM dealer to replace ABS module because they could not reset the computer code when the module is replaced. Took vehicle to arroway Chevrolet in katonah, NY and they replaced the ABS module after also finding the same computer code vault. $1,300 repair cost. I have suspicion that when the ABS brake recall repair was done that a short happened to the ABS module causing it to eventually fail.

My wife was driving to work and the ABS light came on. This was accompanied by a loud noise from underneath the Suburban. After the car was shut off the loud noise persisted. She turned the car off and on several times and there was still a loud noise. She called me and I came over to her work and crawled under the car. I found that the electric motor on the electro-hydraulic control unit (ehcu) was constantly running and the unit was very hot. The only way to stop the unit from running was to disconnect the power harness. The ehcu is right next to the fuel filter and it was so hot that it could have caused a fire in the fuel line/fuel filter if I had not disconnected it. It might have also got hot enough to start the car interior on fire. There should be some sort of shut off mechanism when the ehcu fails. I talked to a number of mechanics and they said that the problem is normally with a relay in the ehcu and this causes the motor to run non-stop. They said this is a very common problem for 1999 + Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and the 2000 + Chevrolet Suburban/Tahoe and the GMC Yukon/Yukon XL. They thought there was probably a recall on them but apparently there is not. The part is only available from the dealer and costs approximately $950. It takes almost two hours of labor to install it so the repair costs about $1150. The Suburban is now in the shop being repaired. The car only has 51,000 miles and this module should not fail with such low miles and it should not cost nearly this much to repair.

: the contact stated while traveling 55 mph, the vehicle's ABS and parking lights illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the service dealer, where computer diagnostics identified the component failure as the service brake; electronic brake control module, had an internal failure. The service dealer mechanic also determined that the pump might damage a new module. The manufacturer was notified.

The ABS module that GM has known is a problem. It's a problem in model years 99 through 02. I own a 2001 Suburban with 54,000 miles. There is a relatively inexpensive alternative than replacement that GM will not admit too. Search the internet for the alternative. It's not hard to find. This problem is so common it's difficult to imagine a company wouldn't issue a recall.

ABS light came on today. The ABS pump was bad and required replacement. This is a safety issue and needs to be addressed. Note that the part was in stock, hence this is not a rare occurence. I have several older ABS (Bosch) automobiles and they do not fail.

About a month ago, the ABS light came on when I turned on the engine of my car and it stayed on. A motor under the car continued to run, even after I had turned the engine back off. I took the car into my local Chevrolet dealership and they replaced the module 4.720 in the ABS motor. My car has approximately. 66,000 miles an is an 2001 model - this type of extensive repair should not have happened. The dealership stated that they have had to replace ~50 of the ABS modules for the same problem. There should be some compensation and/or recall or something for persons whom have purchased autos in good faith that they were build well and the manufacture will stand behind their product. Old part is not available.

ABS module failed at 56K miles - I believe this is a safety issue with a failure of a braking system at such low mileage. ABS light came on and wouldn't go off. ABS system kept running after car was turned off. GM dealership told me the entire module needs to be replaced and charged approx. $1000 to fix it.
