2002 Chevrolet Tahoe experiencing unwanted antilock braking system activation at low speed. A recall for the exact same symptoms has been issued. I called Chevrolet at the number stated in the recall and was told it does not apply to my vehicle thus Chevrolet will not repair the defect on my vehicle. I find it an unimaginable coincidence that I have the very same year/model vehicle exhibiting the exact same symptoms as stated in the recall yet Chevrolet states that it does not apply to my vehicle and will not perform the repairs under the recall. The GM recall # is 05068, NHTSA campaign id # is 05V379000 and the NHTSA action # is PE0502. My vehicle should be repaired under this recall.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. When coming to a stop and depressing the brake pedal, the ABS would not activate to stop the vehicle; the vehicle would skid when the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the dealer stated that she would have to pay for a diagnostic test to find the cause of the problem. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

My 2002 Chevy Tahoe antilock brakes have malfunctioned and I was unable to stop at the stop sign because my vehicle kept going. I was going at a low rate of speed and there was a scrubbing sound. My vehicle went through the stop sign and I cam to a stop in the middle of the intersection. I contacted my mechanic and he stated that it sounded like the antilock brakes and said that there had been a recall. I looked it up online and found there had been a recall. I contacted GM and was told that my particular vehicle wasn't part of the recall NHTSA #05V379000 because my VIN number wasn't listed. My mechanic said this is not the first time he's heard of this particular vehicle having this same problem.

Brake system failure due to excessive corrosion of brake lines, 2002 Chevy Tahoe: A complete failure of the brakes due to a leak in the brake lines due to extensive corrosion of the brake lines. An inspection of the brake lines revealed a leak (developed suddenly) and the entire set of brake lines are heavily corroded along their entire length. The only reason this did not cause an accident was the leak developed suddenly before the truck was started.

My anti-lock brakes on my 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe come on every time I try to stop while turning. It started about 2 weeks ago when I slid on the ice and continues to do it every time I brake while turning now. Was almost in an accident yesterday when it did it while trying to stop while driving straight was not turning and now it is making a very weird noise just driving sounds like popping and squealing and clunking called Chevrolet regarding the recall was told my vehicle wasn't in the recall after arguing about the recall area and explaining problem in more depth was placed on hold to investigate more in depth and then alisa smith came back on the line and told me my vehicle was in the recall and was already fixed. Well apparently it wasn't fixed or it wouldn't still be doing what it was recalled for in the first place. I just bought this vehicle in October 2008 and am very upset about this problem. Thank you for your help in this issue.

Tahoe

  • 175,000 miles
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 4 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle failed to slow down when the brake pedal was depressed. After depressing the brake pedal to the floor several times, the vehicle came to a complete stop. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. Recently, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the antilock brake system. The VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 05V379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock), although the failures were identical. The vehicle is currently being repaired. The failure mileage was 175,000 and current mileage was 184,000.

Noticed a grove in both rear rotors, upon inspection of the brakes it was determined that the parking brake shoes slipped down from it's mounting and scored the rotors. I was unable to remove the rotors on both sides, without damaging them. I had to use a puller to remove them. Both parking brake shoes were worn out and the braking plates were rusted out. This is the second time this has happened in 90,000 miles.
