problem #205

Trailblazer

  • 78,000 miles
The speedometer quit working and over the next year all the gauges have stopped working and I have been told the instrument panel needs to be replaced. I feel this is a safety issue that needs to be recalled as do alot of other people. I contacted GM and have received no help.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 70 mph the instrument panel stopped functioning. The speedometer did not display the speed that the vehicle was traveling. The fuel gauge also did not display the correct amount of fuel in the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be repaired. The dealer stated that the contact had to pay the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Speedometer, tachometer not working and have not been for over 1 yr. Other gauges work when they want to. Will cost too much to take to dealer to get fixed and have heard that there are lots of other vehicles same yr having same issues. They should do a recall on these to fix.

Trailblazer

Tachometer and speedometer on my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer do not work. Problem started intermittently at approximately 60,000 miles. Initially the problem only occurred after using cruise control. However, the vehicle now has over 70,000 miles and both gauges do not work at all. Vehicle hasn ever been in any accident to cause this issue. Speedometer dial now reads past 120 mph even when car is stopped. Fuel gauge also has recently started to fail.

Trailblazer 6-cyl

  • 127,000 miles
We purchased a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer in 2007. Beginning in 2008, our instrument cluster began to fail, starting with the speedometer. At times, the speedometer showed 15 to 20 mph slower than actual speed, resulting in unsafe and unlawful speeds. The cluster then failed in the fuel sensor and oil pressure sensor areas, and has not worked in over 2 years. When GM was contacted, they indicated they had not received any complaints about the issue. However, when looking online at forums and other resources, and talking with GM/Chevrolet dealer mechanics, this problem is widespread and common, resulting in expensive repair bills and in cases giving vehicle owners no choice but to drive an unsafe vehicle due to not having the resources to get the factory defect repaired.

2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer instrument cluster not working. First the tachometer stopped, then speedometer and now other gauges quit. I have found many people have had the same problem and GM is doing nothing about the problem. If all cars from this series end up having to have their instrument cluster replaced there is a bigger problem with some factory defect and it should be taken care of by the manufacturer since the product they sold in the market has known defects. I have read how this problem has been known and reports have been filed with NHTSA for quite some time now and nothing is being done about it. I think someone should force the hand of GM to correct this problem.

This is not an accident complain. My speedometer is stuck all the way to the right. This has happened for a couple of weeks now. It does not move when I drive or park the car. The miles are being recorded, but I don't know if they are accurate. Lots of people have this problem. Seems to me that a recall should be done.

Driving 70 mph on the freeway. The speedometer on my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer jumped up to 100 mph, then to 120 mph, then past 120 mph. When I came to a stopped and turned off the engine the speedometer reads 110 mph.

Trailblazer 6-cyl

  • 101,000 miles
Instrument panel cluster on 2004 Chevy Trailblazer failing. Started with speedometer not registering correctly at around 85,000 miles. Then temp gauge pegged out at hot range, which cost me $200 at dealer to replace a "sensor" which didn't fix the problem. Speedometer getting worse over the course of the next 15,000 miles culminating in complete malfunction of speedometer at 101,000 miles. Speedometer now will not go below 40 while stopped, and with any speed quickly registers 100 mph; while traveling at interstate speeds (using my tachometer below 2000 rpms) the speedometer is practically pegged out at max speed (> 125 mph). Never really know what speed I'm traveling; I could be speeding or I could be going too slow which is a hazard to other drivers as well as myself.

Trailblazer 4WD 6-cyl

  • 90,000 miles
The speedometer does not display the correct speed. Causing the driver to drive at unknown speeds. The gauge will stick at 25mph or not work at all. The driver has to guess at what speeds they are driving. This happens intermittently so sometimes the speed is correctly displayed and most of the time it is incorrect. I contacted GM dealership for repair options and the price for the part alone is $400. I contacted GM they told me no recall or "special policy" covered my vehicle. But there is a "special policy" for other GM trucks of the same year. The policy covers the exact problem with the gauge cluster or instrument panel. The number is bulletin number: 07187A. Being unable to drive at known speeds is a very dangerous driving condition.

Trailblazer 6-cyl

2004 Chevy Trailblazer instrument cluster failure. Approximately 1.5 to 2 years ago I noticed that I had on and off problems with the RPM gauge and gas gauge. The other gauges, including the speedometer, started to fail and now none of them work at all. The vehicle has not been in any accidents and at this point, I have not had any work done to repair the problem due to the cost. I have been informed that this is a problem for this type of vehicle and that GM has recalled other vehicles of the same year for the same problem, but have not done it with the Trailblazer.
