Trailblazer LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

Another add-on to the list of trailblazer speedometer problems.

Ours has the same problem, usually on a really hot day (where the sped. doesn't accelerate at all), or after using cruise control (gets stuck at current speed). Needle jumps all over the place, and is very jerky.

The fix we found that worked? Turn the ignition (with key in it, obv.) until JUST RIGH BEFORE TURNING THE ENGINE OVER. Go beyond that last 'electrical click', and turn another 1/16" or so, but don't start the vehicle.

Well, i suppose you could start the vehicle. Waste, though.

This 'fix' will turn your speedometer back 5 mph, just repeat it until it reaches 0. :)

I HAVE A 2005 TRAILBLAZER AND THE SPEEDOMETER JUST STOPS WORKING. I CAN BE SITTING AT A COMPLETE STOP AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL SAY 50MPH. THEN THE NEXT DAY IT WILL WORK FINE. WHEN I AM SPEEDING UP THE SPEEDOMETER WILL JUMP INSTEAD OF GOING UP SMOOTHLY. IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO FOR IT TO FIX IT.

The is an issue and annoying. The cost to get this repaired is over $500.00 dollars. I agree with the other consumers, Chevy should definitely issue a recall for this issue.

Speedometer stopped working. Started out stuck on 110 miles an hour now it's pointing straight down between 120 and 0. If this is such a huge problem why has chevy not recalled this issue? Not the first problem we have had with this trailblazer. Not sure I will buy a chevy again. My 1992 chevy truck speedometer works. No problem with that. hmmm

Trailblazer LT 4x4 V6

  • Automatic transmission

I've seen the other listings also describing this complaint, same symptoms. Without notice, speedometer will decrease as driving time goes on, eventually dropping to zero while driving. My Aunt's 2003 GM Tahoe has the same issue, but her speedometer is stuck on +100 mph. I have a 1991 Chevy K5 Blazer with a speedometer that still works, but this Trailblazer will be my last Chevy purchased if it ends up costing me anything to replace.

It's very hard to drive a car without the speedometer working. I am afraid that I could get a speeding ticket and I have never had one. My speed shows I am doing 120 mph when I start my car. This is a pain in the butt.

I was a Chevy man intil i bought a 2005 trailblazer, now Chevy can kiss my AS*. How in the hell does your instrument cluster go out at 60000 miles and its not on recall and to top it off all of the other Chevy's SUV and some of their trucks are on recall for the very same thing. Tell me please tell me that that is not a bunch of bull. I will never by another Chevy again. Its said that my 96 dodge Dakota runs better than my 2005 Chevy. GO DODGE you can't go wrong with them. So now i'm a dodge man, GOOD JOB CHEVY

Trailblazer LS 4.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,600 miles

On my last out of town trip, I had my cruise control set at 65 mph, (speed limit was 60), yet everyone was buzzing around me. I came a spot on the highway that shows drivers their driving speed and I was actually going 51 mph. When I came to a stop, the speedometer actually registered below 0 mph! This is the 4th or 5th time in the past year that this has happened, although most of those times I was actually going faster than the speedometer indicated. Of those times, I would come to a stop and my speedometer still showed 30 to 40 mph! I have found that after stopping, if I turn the car off and just turn the ignition switch to run (not start) three or four times, the speedometer will reset back toward zero with each turn of the key and I usually do not have anymore problems for awhile. Unless I pay attention to my tach, I have no idea how fast I am going and I have no idea where or when this will happen and I would like not to get a ticket for speeding. Seeing others with the same complaint, how do I add my name on a list for possible recall?

I had driven a friends vehicle chevy trail blazer 2005 model. I was traveling about 250 miles. Thinking what i was going 60-75 highway. I got closer to town and pulled over by highway patrol saying that i was going 94 in a 75. Uh! I was shocked being told i was speeding when i really was but the speedometer read differently. First time handling this model and make of vehicle no with a speeding ticket because it was the cars reading. Lesson learned but i should make them take the speeding off my record and not have to pay for there mistakes.

First the speedometer on my 2005 Trailblazer would not go above zero on occasion. Now it goes up past 120 and won't go down. Stopped at the mechanic and he stated he thought there was a recall on the vehicle. Went to the Chevy dealer and guess what there is a recall on the speedometer/cluster on every vehicle with the same speedometer EXCEPT the Trailblazer. Now I'm finding many others with the same problem. GM says they will try to get a reduced fee to get it fixed - not good enough, they should fix it for nothing as it is a safety concern.

Trailblazer LS V6

My 2005 Chevy Trailblazer's speedometer appeared to freeze up one morning and would not go above zero. Drove to the gas station, shut the car off to run inside. When I came out and started the truck the speedometer worked fine. Told my hubby about it. Really thought nothing of it as it seemed to have fixed itself and it was really cold outside so I thought it was just an isolated incident.

Trailblazer LT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,000 miles

My 2005 Trailblazer has had this 'crazy' speedometer for about 6 months now. I only went to have it repaired because my State Inspection was up and I could not pass without it getting fixed. The dealership and GM refuse to pay for this repair. I am no longer under a warranty. Shouldn't a speedometer last the life of the vehicle regardless of warranty? I searched online and found this site and saw MANY others have this same problem. I have contacted the National Highway Safety to file a complaint. Why should we get screwed on this? The American tax payer bailed out this disgrace of a company with 'OUR' money and they won;t recall this problem. It seems to be a common problem, why should we have to pay for this to be repaired? How are you supposed to safely operate a vehicle without a working speedometer? I urge everyone to file a formal complaint and maybe we can get payment for the repairs. Unfortunately, i have to get this repair done now. Its gonna cost about 450. If enough people file a complaint maybe we get this fixed on GM. Also until this incident I loved my GM vehicle but will no longer buy American. We obviously can;t make anything good. Also I twice had my gas gage fixed because of the same malfunction.

Trailblazer LS 4.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,875 miles

Just adding another 2005 Trailblazer speedometer to the growing list of failures. Speedometer quits working after vehicle is driven for 20 miles or so after you stop in traffic. Shut the vehicle off for an hour or so, restart it and it works fine until you stop again. Chevy should recall and fix this problem I called Government Motors customer service and they say take it the dealer so he can charge me $100.00 to diagnose the problem. Speed sensor has been replaced already. Hope Chevy does the right thing or else a Ford will be in the driveway next month.

Trailblazer LS 4.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,875 miles

Have 2005 Chevy Trailblazer with 57,700 miles. Speedometer after driving 20-30 miles stops working after you stop or reduce speed in traffic. After vehicle is shut off for an hour or so the speedometer will work normally when vehicle is restarted. After vehicle is driven for 20-30 miles speedometer goes through the same problem. I have replaced the speed sensor and problem still exist. This is from what I understand is a problem with the Chevy Instrument cluster. Has anyone heard where Chevy stands on the issue. I have 4 payments left and plan on buying a new vehicle. If Chevy repairs problem under a recall I'll buy a new Chevy, if not I'm going to buy a new import. Local dealer says no recalls on my vehicle. Anyone have any suggestions?

Trailblazer

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

While driving down the freeway my speedometer stuck. I noticed it when I took the off ramp and stopped at the light. At a stop the speedometer said I was going 62 miles an hour. This was really scary for me since I was 45 miles from home and this was my only form of transportation. I had no choice but to go on the freeway to return to home. On the way home I followed a diesel truck and the speedometer said I was going over 120 miles an hour. I was so nervous but made it home to call the dealer. He said it is not under warranty and it is not a recall. I have never had a speedometer go out on me and feel this should be a recall item.

GM will take the bailout money but won't recall any of their stuff. My 05 Trailblazer has both issues the speedometer and the gas gauge. I was told that each cost about $500.00 to fix. I will not be buying another GM product. Does anyone know who you can talk to at GM to complain?
