The gas gauge first started by reading the wrong amount of fuel, then only after running for about 10 minutes would it read the correct amount of fuel. The about 15 days after initial issue it started to show only the correct amount of fuel when it was started up then it would go to empty, even if the tank was filled up. Now it currently does not move and the "low fuel level" shows up every time you start the car. After doing much research on this I realized there were other peopel who were having the exact same problem.

Trailblazer EXT 4WD 6-cyl

  • 45,000 miles
I filled my vehicle with fuel and went to start it and it died. I restarted it and it lugged and died. I started it again and it was running ok, but I noticed the fuel gauge was stuck at empty and my low fuel warning kept dinging. Once my tank got to about 3/4 full the gauge would work again. After a few months, the gauge never works and I have to try to keep a really close eye on the mileage to know when I need to fill up. We took the car to an auto parts store and had them do a read on the computer because our service engine light is also on half the time. It came back as a "sending unit malfunction" it could be the float or the sending unit. The repair was quoted as $600 so we cannot afford to fix it yet. The vehicle was only at 45,000 miles when this occurred.

Erratic fuel level readings on fuel gate. Once this started it was regular and would read full, empty, partially full regardless of actual fuel level. Replaced fuel pump module and level sensor. Old part is not still available. I am reporting this because I heard there is an investigation I had a 2006 Chevrolet trailblazer extended 2wd we had no safety issues as we discovered it was not working and monitored miles driven to prevent running out of fuel.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. The contact stated that the fuel gauge warning indicator illuminated after refueling and often, while driving at various speeds. The warning light remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. Additionally, the fuel gauge would not display an accurate fuel level reading. The contact notified the authorized dealer where they advised that the fuel tank senor would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. 2006 Chevy trailblazer gas gage is dropping to empty and gas alarm goes off when it has almost 1/2 a tank. There are thousands of complaints for this problem on line, and it has been dangerous. I think there needs to be a recall. If you can search this problem on line you would see how bad it has been.

The fuel gauge on our 2006 Chevy trailblazer has failed along with the check engine light coming on resulting from numerous codes. The entire fuel pump/filter/sending unit has to be replaced and the vehicle wont pass and inspection without it. GM needs to recall this vehicle for this problem and refund owners who have spent money fixing the problem.

Fuel tank sensor went out on my 2006 Chevy trailblazer with only about 36,000 miles on it. Was told by dealership that warranty would not cover it. Since then even though I track my mileage I have run out of gas multiple times, can't afford to have it replaced. Price quotes have been in the 550-600 dollar range.

This issue is with the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext ls model. The issue is with the fuel level sensor. This part will fail without notice and occurred on my vehicle at 50K miles. The failure is permanent and will make the vehicle fail any state required safety inspections. The issue can be corrected. It will cost approximately $100 for the part. Labor costs anywhere between $400-$500.

I have a 2006 Trailblazer ext and the traction is no longer operational.. this is unacceptable and needs to be recalled as I am not the only one experiencing this issue. Does someone need to be killed before action is taken" nothing has been done to correct due to the high cost for the repair. What is Chevy going to do in that it is a serious defect with their vehicle? secondly, the gas gauge stop working and I ran out of gas. This is another serious defect that will cause others to be killed. Once again a recall needs to be put in place before someone is harmed. Where is Chevy's liability in these issues"

The fuel gauge stays on empty with light on all the time and have heard this is a big problem with this vehicle. Have to fill up SUV, set mileage to 0.0 and fill up around 225 miles driven since this costs a lot to fix. Another problem that is happening a lot to this vehicle is problems with the blower not working because the resistor and harness burn out.

Trailblazer EXT 4WD 6-cyl

  • 64,500 miles
Like thousands of other owners (since this happens to the GMC Envoy too, so it's not just a Chevy issue), one day the gas gauge works fine, the next it reads empty after filling it up. However, as a bonus, the friendly check engine light now comes on randomly to let me know the fuel gauge isn't working. I've had the codes read by two different places and this is the only error recorded. I now have to use the trip meter to "guess" when the truck needs filling up. Since it's going to cost me several hundred dollars I don't have to fix it, I'll just have to live with the inconvenience. In Massachusetts, like many other states, they do an emissions test by plugging into the vehicle's computer. Well, since the check engine light has come on at some point, the computer says "not ready" and the vehicle fails the test. You have to wait until the light goes off and then drive about a week before the computer resets itself. However, without fail, the light always comes back on just before taking it back to get re-inspected, thus resetting the whole process. I've had this happen for the last 3 weeks in a row regardless of number of days/miles driven. Another week and another tank of gas wasted. So, in order to get the car to pass inspection, I either have to get real lucky with the check engine light or have the repair made. Since this issue prevents the vehicle from passing the state inspection, it should be considered a safety/emissions concern and all vehicles recalled to repair the combination fuel pump/sending unit. If GM doesn't consider this a concern and recall the vehicles for this repair, then they need to have the vehicles recalled to have the check engine light stop coming on so the vehicles can pass state inspections.

My fuel gauge on my 2006 Chevy trailblazer slowly stopped to where it is no longer working at all. Also, suddenly today, both of my dim (low beam) head lights stopped working after having the battery replaced. Have checked fuses and they are ok. I have seen many complaints for both of these issues.
