My vehicle has roughly 54,000 miles. The heat does not work on the passenger side of the vehicle and is progressively becoming colder on the driver side of the vehicle. The car will not reach a warm enough temperature to be comfortable or to adequately defrost the windshield. This is a known issue to Chrysler and should be recalled. The parts involved are the heater core and radiator.

The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that the air conditioner unit failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the recirculation door alternator for the defrost and air conditioning unit failed. The vehicle was repaired twice, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000....updated 01/23/17 consumer stated at 40,000 and 106,000 miles clicking on passenger side started both times replaced the recirculation and alternator. Updated 7/13/18 consumer stated this will be the 4th failure of this part on this car and the second time that the radiator system has been either partially or entirely replaced in this vehicle.

Partial defrost. The coolant has something in it (from the factory) causing the heater core to plug up and then there is no defrost on the passenger side of the car. Thus impairing the visibility. My car has 24,000. Miles. Chrysler is aware of this problem. There was a star report sent to dealers in 2012. That report number is star case S1207000008.

The wipers now only work on high there no longer is any other speeds. When you turn them off they just stop where ever there at, at the time. Tipm faulty. Car has 80,000 km.

The defroster only blows cold air. No matter what the temperature or fan are set at. Thus making visibility when the windshield fogs up very poor. By the research that I have done it is because during the manufacturing process pin hole leaks were discovered in the radiator instead of replacing the affected part they put a stop leak formula in the heating system. This was an improper product and caused a sludge build up which irreparably destroyed the heater core. In addition to the defroster problem hot air only comes out of the drivers side vents while cols air comes out of the passenger side vents,

The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while driving at a low speed, the wind shield wipers were activated but failed to function. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that that totally integrated power module (tipm) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,300.
- Evans, GA, USA
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 200. While driving approximately 10 mph and activating the right turn signal, the windshield wipers engaged automatically. The failure recurred every time the turn signals were used. In addition, the heater would blow hot air through the driver side vents and cold air through the passenger side vents. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.

Suddenly and with out warning, while driving in light rain conditions, the windshield wipers failed to operate on any speed setting but high. They also would not park when shut off, which necessitated timing the shut off. The vehicle was diagnosed at a local dealer as needing a new tipm. Total cost $1638.50.

Windshield wipers quit working. Only wipe on high. Took into dealer to repair, they replaced the wiper motor. Did not fix problem, they then ran codes to tell me it is the tipm. My extended warranty company said they will not cover, problem still not fixed.

There is low heat output from the heater vents due to the heater core plugging up with "sludge" as Chrysler calls it. There is a Chrysler star technical assistance hotline case, number S1207000008 explaining heater core restriction due to sludge causing poor heater system performance. It is a well known problem with a large number of Chrysler 200 and Dodge avengers which I am sure can be verified by Chrysler. I believe it should be a recall, or at least an extended warranty issue. The star case states to replace the heater core, radiator, radiator cap and reverse flush the entire system if the customer complaint can be verified by the technician, however it does not explain the actual cause of the sludge. The symptom first noticed is little or no heat on the passenger side of the vehicle, then progressively lower heat output the more plugged the heater core becomes as time goes on. I believe in cold climates this could also cause the windshield to stay iced over, or become iced over as you drive down the road due to wind chill factor of the vehicle speed. It could also be aggravated by the fact that the air conditioner runs with the heater on defrost ( to dry interior air in order to de-fog the windshield in humid or rainy weather) which further cools the already cold air coming from the defroster vent if the heater core eventually becomes completely plugged. In hot climates, the heater core still plugs up, however the customer may never notice the symptoms. My windshield wipers just stopped in the middle of a storm & will now only come on high.
- Houston, TX, USA
Wipers only work on high. Wiper motor shorted to ground causing internal collateral damage to tipm. Removed and replaced wiper motor. Removed and replaced tipm and updated software.
