A couple weeks ago my car stalled and totally shut down as I was turning into my driveway. It completely locked up including the brakes, steering, transmission and wouldn't do anything. I tried to put the car in park however the control knob to do so was locked and wouldn't move. The engine was shut down but all the electrical systems were working and several service messages cycled through the display screen. My husband had to disconnect the battery, which reset everything and allowed us to start the car and pull it out of the road and into the driveway. I called Chrysler roadside and my car was towed to the Chrysler dealership. After 3 days in the service dept I was informed they could not recreate the issue that caused the car to totally shut down and lock up while driving. They drove the car, however no codes were active and they were unable to get the car to throw a code while they had the vehicle. They have now returned my car to me without this major safety issue being addressed. Since they could not recreate the stalling and shutdown they returned the car to me. Luckily this happened as I was turning into my driveway as opposed to a few minutes earlier when I was on the highway surrounded by other vehicles. I'm very concerned that it could happen again and next time I may not be as lucky. I leased the car brand new in Aug. 2014, the lease ends Aug. 2017.

I intended on keeping the car after the lease was up, but now I'm concerned and feel forced to give it up, even though that may not be the best decision financially. And if I do turn it in, the issue could affect the next owner.

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an audible indicator was heard as a red light illuminated with a message displayed of 'power steering unavailable" and the power steering was lost. The vehicle was taken to ourisman Chrysler Jeep Dodge of alexandria located at 5900 richmond hwy, alexandria, va 22303, phone number: 703-329-1600 where it was diagnosed with needing a new electric power steering module. The contact stated that an appointment was made for repairs and the dealer needed to order the module. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact mentioned that the vehicle had three recalls since purchasing the vehicle in 2015 as one of the recalls was to replace the transmission. The failure mileage was 34,000.

The vehicle was diagnosed as having a short circuit inside the rack and pinion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.

Recall on electrical surge issue performed on 4/6/2017; since then my air bag icon and bell goes off and on and power steering icon pops on dash. On 4/18/2017, went to make a left turn and power steering icon came on and dash read "power steering not inactive". pulled the car over shut it down and restarted icon was gone car drove fine.

The gear indicator was still showing I was in drive, but the engine was completely off. I tried to start the car 3 more times and it wouldn't start. I purchased this car November, 21, 2015. Luckily I wasn't driving fast or anything, I was able to just sit in the road until the car came back on. I am really terrified to drive this vehicle anymore.
