I purchased the vehicle new and the transmission was changed at 109318 miles because of slippage. Since then I've had problems with the shifter getting stuck in park. I've had the vehicle at a Chrysler dealer 5 times and they can't duplicate the problem. I called for a tow while it was stuck in park today and the aaa tow driver demonstrated how to get it out of park. He stated that its a common occurrence with that year Chrysler. I'm confused why the service department was not aware of the procedure. The current mileage is 128238. I will take the car back to the dealer and demonstrate the procedure for unlocking the shifter, perhaps they can make a repair.

Rather than ask for a recall. Chrysler is having customers pay for the repairs, while they needed three different shifter(clips) to remedy their defective design. I have written them a letter stating my concerns but they have denied any responsibility. Chrysler has repaired or re-designed the gear shift mechanism 4 times. They refused a recall notice, but stick young families with a $500 plus repair bill, due to their faulty shifter assembly. I paid for the repairs and do not want anything from them, but to know they have taken advantage of unsuspecting families...updated 12/17/13

I was intending to back out of my driveway when I was unable to move my floor shifter out of the park position. There was nothing I could do at this point. I had to make other arrangements for transportation. The cost of repair is estimated to be around $500. I have spoken both with the dealership and Chrysler customer service. Chrysler took my information including my vehicle mileage of 54000. I was told there was not anything they could do for me. A high number of other 2005 Chrysler 300 owners have experienced this exact problem. It is a problem with the transmission shifter interlock lever. Chrysler has issued customer satisfaction notification K39. Their explanation on how they reach their determination as to which 2005 Chrysler 300's they will service free of charge is unconscionable. I would like to mention that I also feel that this problem is a safety issue. I ask that the NHTSA research this fact. I can see this happening after a mother pulls to the side of the road to tend to her child. I can see this happening after I pull to the side of the road to tend to my ailing mother of 82. These are potentially dangerous situations. Please look into this matter. It is unfair to the purchaser. It is unsafe for the public. Thank you.

My car was purchased in November 2004 and it is a 2005 one of the first models sold... there was a recall on the shifter plug my car not being able to go from the park position..I filled a claim with Chrysler they called me and said my VIN number was not recalled I am wondering why... my car was bought in November 2004 and it was a 2005...but they wont send me a letter or show me the VIN numbers that were recalled. I am very dissatisfied with them at this point.

I went to the post office, parked and cut the car off. When I got ready to depart. I cut the car on and attempted to change the gear into reverse. The gear would not move into reverse. So I put the car back into drive, and had enough space to go forward. I drove home. When I arrived, the gear would not stay in park. The car start rolling and I had to cut the ignition off to stop it from rolling. The gear shift is still in drive. Had to secure it in place by putting bricks behind car to keep it from rolling out of driveway.

A common problem on all 2005-2007 Chrysler 300. The interlock latch device spring hook broke and disabled the vehicle. The vehicle was stuck in park. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge the problem on all vehicles and only recalled a select few made in certain areas. The consumer was informed his vehicle didn't have the mopar replacement part installed prior to June 24, 2007, and therefore the recall did not apply to his vehicle. On 3/9/2012 I went to drive my car, as I was putting the car in reverse I found that the gear shaft would not engage, I did everything to get it to engage, but it wouldn't budge, after a while I gave up and contacted the Chrysler dealer who instructed me on how to get the bracket to move. After several attempts it (the bracket) moved, allowing for the gear shaft to move out of park. I took my car in for service and was told that the part might have been under recall, I contacted the Chrysler corporation and was told that even though transmission cup plug bracket was under recall for certain Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep my car didn't fall with in the parameter of the VIN number. I paid for the repair. I would have agree to this had I not had this problem prior to the date above. Once before the gear shaft wouldn't move, but someone helped me get it to move, that was several years ago. Had I known about the recall then, I would have contacted the NHTSA sooner. The problem that I have with Chrysler is that they know that this part is faulty, but the company is only choosing to fix the (bracket) on certain vehicles. What above the 1000's of Chrysler 300 owners who have experienced the same problem, where is Chrysler responsibility to us-left-holding-the-bag customers. My car wasn't free, I paid hard earn cash for my car and I want Chrysler to honor its product. If there was a recall, and a multiple amount of customer have experience the same problem, then Chrysler should be willing or made to help with the price of repairing the vehicle, even if those customers where not part of the recall. Vehicles breakdown everyday and I truly aware of this, but I'm not the one who placed a faulty part in my car. This is not just above natural wear-N-tear, but about a problem that the manufacturer itself saw, and chose to only assist a selective few. This about fairness?

The car almost immediately needed the brake stepped on numerous times to allow the transmission to release so the car could be placed in gear.9-19-2012 the car was again taken to naples Dodge, where another shifter was installed at a cost of $560. The second unit was 4578029ac the third 68091343aa. A new clip has been added to correct the problem which has occurred in avengers, sebrings, etc. Rather than ask for a recall. Chrysler is having customers pay for the repairs, while they needed three different shifter(clips) to remedy their defective design. I have written them a letter stating my concerns but they have denied any responsibility.
