The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler 300. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17V435000 (electrical system) however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact then stated that while driving, the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called a local leith Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealer at (919) 366-7000 located at 5310 rolesville rd, wendell, nc 27591 and it was confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. (VIN tool confirms parts not available). Consumer stated alternator failure (recall item) burned uses and killed battery car had to get towed. Updated 8/15/18

There is loud clicking coming from the dash board area. Temperature control failing. There is also problems with the suspension on the front end of the car. The cv joints are failing and the struts are failing. The rockerarms in the front suspension are also failing. The clicking happens stationary or while in motion and the suspension popping happens when the car is driving.

The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17V435000 (electrical system) after the failure occurred; however, the parts to remedy the vehicle were not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case on the contact's behalf. The manufacturer informed the contact that an investigator would be sent to his local dealer to diagnose the vehicle. The contact was also informed by the manufacturer that, if he paid for the repair, he could be reimbursed. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge charger. The contact stated that the alternator failed. While the driver drove the low battery warning light illuminated and a burning odor emitted from under the hood. The contact inspected the vehicle and replaced the engine oil and the engine operated as normal. However, a few weeks later while attempting to start the vehicle, a burning odor emitted again from under the hood. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the top to the alternator was burned. The vehicle was parked at the contact's home. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer for inspection. The manufacturer advised the contact that the parts were unavailable for repair. However, the contact was advised to replace the alternator and he will be reimbursed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number 17V435000 (electrical system) but the notification was not received. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. VIN tool confirms recall incomplete remedy not yet available.

I was stop at the gas station awaiting in line and the safe battery mode light came on and the car haisited and several warnings light came on it blinked orange on the dash. I was given a jumpstart and it didn't start I jumpstarted the car again and it started. I start to drive my car and couldn't control the steering wheel it shaked very hard and my car was stalling the safe battery mode light ABS brake light brake fauilare warning lights came on a few other lights can on the dash was flickering the car was jerking and making sounds and very hard to controll I stop the car and got it into park I could feel the extreme heat off the car. When trying to stop the car I only drove a few feet and turn right. I have contact Chrysler several times with only to be told just get you car repairs save receipts and we will refund the repairs and you submit your receipt

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler 300. Without warning, the contact noticed a burning odor inside the vehicle. Also, various warning indicators flashed, the battery power decreased, and the gear independently shifted from drive into neutral. The contact was unable to shift from neutral into the other gears. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was checking with the manufacturer to ensure that the two recalls would be addressed by the dealer. The failure mileage was not available. Also, the steering seized and the vehicle stalled. The contact managed to pull the vehicle over right before the vehicle failed completely. The vehicle was able to restart, which allowed the contact to pull off the ramp. The failure recurred and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 32342516. The manufacturer confirmed that the parts were unavailable. Chrysler issued a recall for all 2011 through 2014 Chrysler 300 models due to an internal parts failure on the alternator. On June 9, 2017 my vehicle was stationary when attempting to start the vehicle. I received a reserve power enabled error message and promptly turned the vehicle off. Upon restarting the vehicle I heard a whining noise under the hood. I once again turned the vehicle off and opened the hood. I then notice the alternator was on fire with significant smoke. After 30 minutes of severe smoke and flame from the alternator the vehicle had no power at all. I had the vehicle towed to a dealer which replaced the alternator and the battery because the alternator had burned up the battery along with internal component failure on the alternator. I paid the dealer $ $1,274.09 for the repair. The dealer statement indicated internal failure on the alternator. 4 weeks later Chrysler announced a recall on the 2011 through 2014 Chrysler 300 alternator for "internal component failure could cause alternator total failure and fire". Chrysler is refusing to acknowledge my vehicle under this recall stating that the Chrysler 300 is the only model impacted using a 160 amp alternator and that my vehicle, a Chrysler 300 S model uses a 180 amp alternator and is not covered under this recall. All the while the write up in the recall notice matches the exact write up from the technician who repaired my vehicle at a Chrysler dealership 4 weeks prior to the recall announcement. I would like for Chrysler to acknowledge the failure in my alternator, which caught on fire, as covered under this recall and refund me my $ $1,274.09 due to vehicle safety issue.

On 20170731 my 2013 Chrysler 300S showed battery saver indicator on ignition. It also emitted a funny smell. I parked the vehicle. Aaa came out, and the technician changed the battery. When the car was started. What the technician identified as the alternator starting smoking and glowing. It had been the source of the smell. He had to throw his water on it to put it out. I read an article cnbc.com from 20170714 saying Chrysler 300 vehicles had alternator fire risks: Https://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/14/Fiat-Chrysler-recalls-1-point-33-million-vehicles.html. I never received notification from Chrysler of such a recall even though the local service office has had my address and phone number for about a year. After towing to Chrysler service in san jose, the service manager in san jose and their online chat help person said that the recall didn't apply to my specific vehicle. Additionally, the rep refuted that the announced recall was for an alternator even though the article clearly says "the automaker is also recalling 565,000 vehicles to replace their alternators because of fire risks. The company said hot ambient temperatures could lead to premature diode wear, may result in a burning odor or smoke, could impact the anti-lock braking system or lead to engine stalls." This is exactly what I experienced and the article says it applied to my year make and model of vehicle. I need to make sure Chrysler/Dodge is following up on this issue because people could die. Not only am I on the hook for $1K in costs for something that looks like a manufacturer hazard. I also don't know if related examination/replacement will occur on my vehicle... I need to know that proper precaution is taken. For reference the aaa contracted technician was from great America tow in san jose, ca. I can provide a reference number for his visit if contacted. He may provide more useful observations.

I wasn't driving my vehicle on a busy highway. The vehicles electrical system started going crazy. Heat turned on, windshield wipers turned on, blinkers going off, radio turned off. Power steering, gas and brakes stopped working. Was stuck in the middle of a busy highway because of this and lucky I did not get hit because of the spot I was in. I got the car towed and sent to a mechanic. It was the alternator that went bad and it burned the battery so had to get that replaces as well. Very dangerous with no warning signs. I have heard this problem is common in these vehicles.

Same problem that occurs with known recall P60 - NHTSA campaign number: 14V634000; Chrysler 300 while I was driving my vehicle shut down completely in the middle of a heavily populated city 3 lane road while I was driving at an unknown speed (35-40 mph) since my digital display screen and speedometer malfunctioned. While driving my car cut off completely with the only waring being "battery saver mode" that occurred less than 5 mins prior to my car shutting off. It appears the my alternator failed causing engine stall, thus increasing the risk of crash, since no warning is issued. Had it not been for the cop that pulled up behind me, I would have caused an accident on that street in which the police officer would have blamed me for. My car is currently at the dealership with a "alternator" repair. This repair doesn't apply to the current recall from 10/8/2014 because I have a 180 amp alternator with a 3.6L engine, but not a 160 amp alternator with a 3.6L engine.

Was 4 hours from home. Was driving on side road but had just left a highway, when it sounded like I had hit something even though there was clearly nothing in the road. Lights started flashing, windshield wipers turned on. I no longer had any control of the car. Steering wheel locked. Couldn't switch gears to park. Had to coast to a stop. Then car wouldn't turn off and filled with smoke smell. I expected it to catch fire any second. After 5 minutes I was able to approach car and get to turn off (after many attempts). Turned out to be the alternator. There is a recall on the 160 volt alternator as this apparently happened often, however mine was a 180 volt alternator so was not covered. Same issue as the 160 but not covered. Nor was I aware that I had an unsafe alternator in the car I was driving (with my child).
