This was the first of several incidences. After fueling, the engine began rough idling. I thought I had just gotten water in my tank. After several minutes the engine seemed to smooth out and I left the gas station and entered a busy intersection. As I entered the intersection, I pressed down on the accelerator and the engine stalled. There were cars all around me as I tried to restart the engine. After several tries, it started and I pulled to the side of the road. The engine ran roughly for several more minutes and once again smoothed out. The stalling can also happen during right turns, but always happens after refueling. My dealer said the problem was the valve on top of the gas tank. When filling the tank, fuel leaks over into the cannister which then floods out the engine. Because the valve and the tank are one unit, the entire tank must be replaced. Since a repair is so expensive, I now do not fill my tank above the 3/4 level.

After refueling, car stalls, hesitates and shuts off multiple times for several minutes or miles. Only happens when tank is filled all the way to automatic pump shut-off. This happens to me almost every time I refuel, unless I stop refueling a gallon or two short of full ( work-around that I discovered only recently). It is dangerous and has not caused an accident yet, but has put me in several white-knuckle situations sitting at an intersection with no power.

I bought my car new in March 2006 and I am the only owner/driver. I do like my car and will buy another Chrysler 300C. When the car was new I had several stalling issues where the car would stall at low speeds or while sitting at a traffic light. I do not recall if it was after refueling. I took the car to the dealer and no "codes" were found and the dealer could not replicate the problem. The car than ran perfectly for six years with no stalling issues. All maintenance has been performed including new spark plugs as recommended by Chrysler. Starting earlier this year the stalling restarted and it only happens after I fill the car with fuel. I have tried several other gas stations and ran some fuel injection cleaner through the fuel system. I do not top off the tank when filling the car up. At one point the stalling occurred after every fill up and now it is not as often (every other fill up). After filling the tank the car starts normally and as I exit the gas station and stop to check to merge into traffic the car will stumble and stall. It restarts and will stall again if I don't keep the engine RPM's up. Sometimes after I fill up and quickly merge into traffic (and not allow the car to fall to idle speed) while accelerating up to 25-40 mph the car will stumble and it feels like it is not getting fuel. It does not stall because the car is gaining speed and then clears up after a "surge" and then runs fine till the next fill up cycle. I am careful about pulling out in heavy traffic after fill ups out of fear of it stalling.

I filled up the gas tank at the station pulled into traffic and the light turned red. Stopped for the light the car started lurching and the engine shut down. Turned on hazard light pushed gas to floor and cranked engine over. Took several tries to get engine to start. After this incident the car runs rough when stopping at red lights.

Vehicle stalls shortly after refueling. Stall happens mostly when coming to a stop although has also occurred at a low speed cruise (25-35 mph) and when accelerating from a stop at an intersection. Happens only after fuel tank is fully filled, being the automatic shutoff on the fuel pump. Does not seem to happen when tank is only partially filled. While the problem has not resulted in a collision yet, there is a high probability that it eventually will. This is due to the fact that stalling when leaving an intersection causes loss of some control. When the engine stalls, upon restart the transmission does not come online for a few moments. This can cause dangerous scenarios when left immobile in a busy intersection of a major metropolitan area.

After the car was topped off with fuel the engine stalls. It is then very difficult to start. It happened 4 different times. The engine would stall if you did not keep your foot on the gas and put the car in neutral. The mph did not make a difference on stalling. It started stalling immediately after full-up.

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler 300C. The contact stated that after refueling, the engine stalled while driving at 5 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the charcoal canister needed to be replaced and the throttle needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 70,000. Updated 07/10/13 the consumer stated the fuel tank module failed. Many multiple incidents - after filling fuel tank, engine will stall multiple times shortly afterwards and is difficult to re-start. This happens even if care is taken to avoid "topping off" tank. At times the engine has even stalled during fueling once tank is near full, before pump clicks off. Must drive with gas cap removed for it to start and run at all for many miles before it behaves normally again, and even with gas cap removed it still will come near stalling at times.

After filling the gas tank the vehicle is prone to stall. This can happen at random times and speeds. If you only fill the tank up 3/4 of the way it seems to alleviate the problem. No trouble codes are set. After stalling the vehicle can sometimes be restarted immediately, other times it might have to sit for 5 minutes.

Engine stalls at least once after refueling. The dealer replaced the fuel-line purge valve last year, but it didn't fix the problem. I was told on several occasions that it was bad gas that was causing the problem, but I've tried using several brands of fuel without any luck. I don't drive the vehicle that much, but I have had a few near accidents because the engine accelerates before shutting off.

The first time I had this problem, I filled up my car after a trip, and upon leaving the gas station my engine stalled and the car would not come back on. I could not get the car to crank and when the engine did come on once the rpms would not settle and they kept dipping to almost zero before the engine cut off. I had the car towed to a repair shop where they were unable to fix the issue. I've had this happen about five times and I finally had one repair shop tell me to not fill my gas tank up all the way and it should prevent the cut offs. I then failed an emissions test and had to have my gas cap replaced. I thought that this had solved the problem so I tried to fill the tank up all the way again and it immediately cut off after starting it up. I was able to rev the engine and use up some of the gas and managed to get the car home with the rpms constantly dipping almost to zero. The car cut out at a stop light and I then had to get it started again after sitting in the intersection stalled. I've had my car inspected by two Chrysler dealers, a few independent repair shops, and also a Nissan dealer where I know the head mechanic. The only answers I've gotten were that it is a faulty O2 sensor and needs a new gas tank.

Problem first occurred at approx 41K miles. Had just refilled tank and car refused to start. Let car sit for 1/2 hour and car restarted. Problem has occurred intermittently since then - always after refilling the tank. Sometimes the car is hard to start after a refill and other times it stalls, typically when leaving the gas station. I use the auto-fill feature at gas stations and do not overfill.

The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000.

I noticed that when I refueled my car, it would stall right away. It has happened may times when I refueled my car. I didn't matter what brand or octane I used. I went on line and noticed other people having the same problem. One of the solutions I used was not to fill up my car all the up. They (blog websites) said that the engine becomes flooded (they went to the Dodge dealerships and that's what they told them, and the entire fuel system had to be changed from the gas tank to fuel lines and evap system ) and the car cant correct itself and stalls. And ever since I started doing this solution my car hasn't stalled. If I do fill up my car all the way I have to burn off some gas in order for the car to be safe to drive.

Every time the car is filled up with gas, it stalls several times. This can be dangerous as at least once I was getting on an interstate. Fortunately, no accident occurred. The first time I took it to the dealership they said it was because I overfill the tank (which I don't) and replaced a charcoal filter and solenoid at the cost of almost $500. It happened again after this repair and now I am told I need a new gas tank. This will cost another $1250. I am aware of this happening on other Chrysler 300's. contacted Chrysler and reported the problem. At first they said it was because of overfilling the tank and now confirm it is the fuel tank, but there have been no recalls on this issue. We bought the car in 2005 when the new 2006's came out. This is a very dangerous issue.

Vehicle stalled 3 times after filling up the gas tank. Very close to a multiple car pile up behind me. Tank was not topped off and never has. Chrysler knows this is a problem yet refuses to help the owners of these vehicles. The gas tank is faulty, causing raw fuel to enter the evap system.

The problem started about 12 months ago. When ever I re-fuel my car it will shut off several times. It seems to happen more frequently if I let the fuel level get to or below 1/4 tank before re-fueling. The problem will continue at least 10-15 minutes after re-fueling. When the problem first started the car would only shut off at idling or at very slow speed. Now the problem will continue to happen even while at street or highway speed. It appears that the fuel flow is interrupted then begins to flow again. This will repeat several times. This only happens after re-fueling. I have not attempted to get it repaired due to no longer having a warranty. My car now has approximately 62000 miles on it.
