I have a 1998 Chrysler Concorde with 60,000 miles.took it into Chrysler numberous times for a loud ticking noise in the engine, they siad they could not find the problem, then my engine totally died.called Chrysler and was told to have it towed back to the dealer where they proceeded to come back with there is sludge in my engine from not proper oil changes. Not from me but from the previous owner, (which I bought the car with 23,000 miles on it with an extended warr.)so Chrysler said there is nothing they will do for me, and charged me $268 to tear my engine apart and throw it in the trunk in pieces. I had the car towed from the lot and it sits in my driveway. But I was also told that they would be happy to put a new engine in my car for $5,000. What a joke.

Purchased car in March of 2001 and had car maintained according to suggested repair schedule. In July 2001 engine began making a knocking sound. Returned the car to the dealer later that month describing the problem. I was told by the dealer repair person that I needed to have the engine replaced. I asked the dealer what had caused the problem because I was maintaining the car. I was told that the car could have came out of 'time' and the engine may have slipped. Repairman could not give me a suggestion on how this could have happened. It cost me over $3,000 to have the engine replaced with a used engine. The repairman at the time allowed me to keep my vehicle in 'storage' until I was able to pay the repair bill. A year later I finally was able to get my car back. I had the battery replaced when the vehicle was picked up (in Dec 2003). I noticed that the engine light was still on. I asked the dealer repairman (new person, other repairman left company) why that was. Repairman claimed that it was caused because the car sat for so long. I contacted Chrysler Corp. About the issue and was told that I would have to work it out with the dealer. I am still experiencing problems with this car I.e. acceleration problems (slow/ or sometimes rapid), leaking from what appears to be the engine (I am taking the car to a authorized repair shop (not the dealer - michael Chrysler, I do not want to deal with them), the engine light is still on. I don't not drive my car at excessive speeds nor do I do extensive driving, just local driving. I think this car is poorly put together. I know other people who own Chrysler and are experiencing similar engine problems. Chrysler should investigate these problems. I do not have money to keep paying for repairs on this vehicle and also the financing. I have spoken with the financing company (americredit) about the situation. I don't know what else to do get this car in at least drivable condition.

I own a 1998 Chrysler Concorde with a 2.7 L engine. We have maintained it according to the schedule in the handbook, with oil changes approximately every 4500 - 7500 miles. The car has 79000 miles on it. About a week ago we noticed an engine noise that sounded like a fan going out. We took the car into an independant shop and they diagnosed a failure of the cooling fan. That was repaired, but at the same time a much large problem was found. The engine is making a clicking noise that sounds like lifters. The shop determined it was not upper engine, and hence not lifters. We can't afford to have the engine torn apart and replaced ($7,000) but the problem is apparently lower engine. I found literally a hundred reports of engine failure on Concordes and intrepids with this same engine, many of which indicated that the engine failed (blew up) while driving - which is obviously very dangerous. I was a lucky one - that so far hasn't had the engine blow up, but if it does or if it had, since I live in a dallas suburb with massive amounts of traffic it most likely would have been fatal. I will be keeping off the highways if I drive it at all.
