Crossfire 6-cyl

Convertible rear window detaching from fabric top. Seems to be manufacturers defect. No option for repair except to replace entire top at cost of $3000 - $4000 for parts & labor. Seems to be numerous Crossfire owners with same issue. Chrysler not covering under warranty or helping to defray replacement cost.

Rear window became completely detached (loose) from the mounting surface. Having the Chrysler group service bulletin (23035-11 rev a) on file, which specifies a 10yr/100,000 mi. Warranty extension (2005 model) along with an ample amount of evidence that this defect has occurred in all regions of the U.S., to a vehicle that was imported from only one source in germany; why has the NHTSA failed to require the Chrysler group to cover all of the affected vehicles regardless of which state they were first sold in"?"

Rear window failure -- adhesive fails & rear window falls out. The failure of any window is not normal "wear and tear." Many of these cars have experienced the same failure over the years. Chrysler finally -- after years of complaints -- issued a service bulletin #23-03511reva in 2011 that, according to Chrysler, covers only vehicles delivered in nine southeastern states. It extends warranty coverage to ten years (which means Chrysler will replace the convertible tops under warranty). All these cars were built in belgium. Chrysler had trouble selling these vehicles so it auctioned some vehicles internally to its dealer network, who were then permitted to get whatever they could for brand new "used" cars. Mine went to a Dodge dealer in farmville va and was sold to me (via ebay) with 3 miles on the odometer in mid-2007 or so. 33 mos. Of "new car warranty" remained when I rec'd it here in Hawaii. When that warranty expired I purchased an extended "platinum" warranty. The rear window fell out of the convertible top three months after the initial 36 month warranty had expired, the extended "platinum" warranty wouldn't cover repairs. The car had approx. 8000 miles on it. As noted before, Chrysler issued the service bulletin mentioned above in 2011 but arbitrarily excluded some vehicles despite the problem occurring in cars all over the nation. I guess that they thought that the problem would happen only in certain climes -- but there are more than nine U.S. states that get hot weather, e.g., Hawaii experiences hot sun year-round. And mine fell out despite very low mileage and the car being garaged when not in use. I request NHTSA demand that Chrysler extend coverage to all vehicles that fit the criteria, not just those "delivered" in nine of fifty states. The failure of any window is not normal "wear and tear" no matter where it happens. Thanks.

Crossfire 6-cyl

  • 44,000 miles
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the rear window detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated the window was a factory defect. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000. The consumer stated the defect was the adhesive that held the rear glass to the convertible top. The top was constructed of excellent quality german canvass. The glass detached and was tethered to the top solely by the wire connecting the rear glass defroster, and there was nothing holding the glass to the vehicle. Updated 10/31/13

The rear window is detaching from the convertible top. It has gotten progressively worse over the past year and the window could fall out at any time without a repair. This is a known problem with the 2005 roadster models, Chrysler has refused to issue a general recall. As a result, my local Chrysler dealer in seminole Florida will not replace nor repair the top.

When traveling down the road I noticed that the glass rear window on my convertible 2005 Chrysler Crossfire roadster had become partially unattached from the canvas top and was hitting against the body when I would hit a bump. When I got home I did an internet search about how to fix it, and found that this is a common problem with the Crossfire rear window of this model year and although Chrysler admits the problem they are only fixing/covering the repair based on the VIN #. if I would have known this I would have bought a solstice or S2000. I can't afford a new top which is their only solution of course at my own expense. I took it to several shops to see if they would re-glue it for me. The top is mint except for the loose window. C'mon Chrysler man up and fix this for every owner not just some of them!

The rear window of the convertible, the adhesive has failed and the back window is ready to fall out.the bottom of the window has completely come unglued. I am afraid to drive my car very far, I am afraid the rear window is going to fall out. I have researched this problem and have learned that Chrysler has admitted to this problem. There is a bulletin number{sb-23035-11R} for this problem. I have called the local Chrysler dealership and got the run around. I then called Chrysler complaint dept. And still got no where. The more I research the more I find out. Chrysler is only fixing a select few. Under the equal protection law, Chrysler is not allowed to just select a few, but instead should be fixing all, since they have admitted there is a problem with the back window falling out and adhesive not holding.

Rear window is separating from convertible top. Could fall out. Chrysler is aware of this problem and is repairing some but not all due to the state it was delivered to. I want it to be on record that they were informed of this safety problem.

While parked in our garage the rear glass window separated from the convertible top. A phone call was made to naples Chrysler and was immediately told that a new top was necessary and to come in for a diagnostic. Brought car in for diagnostic and after showing them our extended warranty pamphlet was told convertible top was not covered under warranty or recall. Phone call made to extended warranty people and Chrysler rep. Was later told by warranty people that car would be fixed under "good will" provision. However, Chrysler decided to reglue the glass and not properly fix the problem by giving a new top as they initially recommended. Also because the car was purchased in pa and later shipped to Florida and has been there since 2006 the recall supposedly didn't apply to us. The proper fix was a new top. The fix with the so called extended warranty was a sham.
