Engine failure driving in traffic- just luck I was not hit by another vehicle... was able to pull over to curbside with forward momentum and then get vehicle towed. Could have been catastrophic on a busy day or on a more crowded highway.

Well the first time my water pump failed, I was on my way to work. Then after a 1400$ repair, I got me vehicle back and after another 5000 miles. I was on my way to work and there was no noise no nothing it just stopped. I had to have it towed. I was told that the connecting rod had gotten hot and broke destroying the block. I was also told it would be a 8,000$ repair job. I was also told it was starved of oil, the temperatures gauge never got hot nothing, my vehicle broke down after 4 blocks of driving.

The $2000 ge extended warranty that I purchased has denied the claim due to "poor maintenance" without even seeing all of my receipts. Chrysler manual recommends oil change every 7500 miles and they were all done well before that. No work has currently been done on the vehicle as ge is requesting complete tear down of the motor for further investigation, yet they will not pay the cost.

When I got home I had the car towed to a mechanic where I was informed that the engine would have to be replaced as this particular engine, 2.7L V6 DOHC, is know to have design problems that lead to failure. There were 76,000 miles on the car when it failed and because of the expense of the engine replacement, $5,800, and the amount I still owe on this car which I have only had for 2 years, $8,000, I am at a financial loss having to continue to make payments on a car that will not run.

I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible which was previously owned by the dealer and maintained on a routine schedule as you could imagine (being that the dealers wife drove it) and then I purchased it in 2006 and kept all scheduled maintenance as well, doing oil changes as suggested. Well, I was recently driving down the street and all of a sudden, without any prior warning or anything, I just started hearing this loud knocking noise and the vehicle started shaking and then it just died....right in the middle of the freeway...I thought I was going to be hit. I had to be towed and took it to the closest service shop and the mechanic told me that he had just replaced an engine like mine in another customers car two weeks before that had the same thing happen. He said that the engine failed due to low oil pressure from clogged oil passages, which in turn caused the engine to be starved of oil, causing the failure of the engine parts. I called the Chrysler dealership where I had my car maintenance the service manager told me "well those weren't the best engines that chrylser ever built" but he then proceeded to tell me that there was nothing they could do, I would need a new engine, to the tune of about $7,000. I regularly did everything I could to keep this vehicle in tip top condition and had no warning there was any issue with the engine and feel this should be covered by Chrysler.

I am writing in regards to my 2001 Chrysler sebring which contains a 2.7L engine that failed in December 2006 while I was driving on I-75, a major highway in Ohio (cincinnati) during a busy hour of the day (between 6pm & 7pm). There were no events leading up to the failure. I had my oil changed every 3,000 miles at a dealership. I was driving on a highway and my engine locked up. Nothing has been done to fix the failure. It would cost more to get the engine fixed than the car is worth, and I have not found anyone (besides a Chrysler dealership, which quoted me $8,900 to repair my engine) that would agree to repairing my car because no one wants to work on that engine model. My engine had 80,000 miles on it when it failed. I had my oil changed every 3,000 miles at a dealership, there is no reason my engine should have failed. My engine is still not fixed. Not only did this issue put me in harms way when the car stopped on the highway, but it has caused a financial hardship. Please advise if there is anything that I can do.

Chrysler has already publicly admitted that this engine is faulty which can cause premature engine failure. Yet, Chrysler is quick to point the finger at me. I was told to gather all of my oil-change receipts (from 2002 - 2008) and forward to Chrysler for reconsideration. First of all, if the engine is faulty from the beginning, how can I be judged for properly maintaining an inferior product" what type of guidelines does one follow for taking care of a faulty engine"

Engine failure, oil light comes on. Chrysler has installed a Mitsubishi engine in Sebring model 2001. This engine has had numerous problems associated with oil blockage. They call it sludge. This is a design failure in the ability for the engine to maintain reliable oil pressure to the total engine components and has cause numerous engine replacements. It is a hazard for these vehicles to be on the road. Mitsubishi has a voluntary program to support replacement from what I understand.

Approximately 2 years ago, I had my oil pan gasket replaced (at the advice of the Chrysler dealership in fredericksburg, va). When the oil pan was removed, there was sludge at the bottom of it (which was cleaned out). The new gasket and pan were replaced (which seemed to fix any problems my car was having). Now, my car is burning oil and coolant and stalls when I slow down. My spark plugs were replaced yesterday and everything seemed okay as it sat idling in the driveway; however, this morning, my car stalled while I was turning through a busy intersection! I have the 2.7L engine and am concerned that my car falls into the same category as the rest of the 2.7L engines (that have sludge build-up from coolant getting into the engine oil). I don't want my engine to seize up before I can afford to purchase a replacement (which will not be another Chrysler) since I can blatantly read that no one is getting any satisfaction out of Chrysler in replacing their faulty engines. I'm sending this as a preventable measure.

I just believe that therewas a definite engineering problem with this engine, from what all I saw. And Chrysler needed to take a little more responsibility! we will be having a jasper engine installed shortly.
