Chrysler Town & Country 2005 = when you turn a corner, the air bag light comes on for a few minutes and then goes out. It is the sensor in the steering column. Why isn't this a recall ??

I own a 2005 Chrysler Town and country minivan. I noticed that there is a recall on the front crash sensor that doesn't start until June, but my airbag warning light is already illuminated. It started lighting up a couple of months ago. When I contacted my local Chrysler dealership, they denied any knowledge of a recall. I called Chrysler directly and was told that I could get the sensor fixed right now, but it would have to be at my own expense. The dealership was going to charge me $130 for diagnostics, when they should already know about the recall. My concern is this: If (god forbid) I happen to be in a crash between now and June, what happens if my airbag doesn't deploy" Chrysler is aware that my sensor is out and is doing nothing. What are my options for ensuring the safety of my vehicle over the course of the next three months, before the "official" recall begins" I truly think this is a sham that Chrysler knows about the problem, but is taking their sweet time in coming up with a solution and fixing our defective vehicles.

On March 16, 2008 I was hit head on in my minivan by someone driving an SUV that was traveling aprox. 55 mph on a 2 lane hwy. I believe that upon impact all of the airbags in my minivan deployed including the knee air bag that is located under the steering column in my 2005 Chrysler Town and country mini van. My lower legs have suffered (what is most likely) permanent pain/damage from the crushing impact of the plastic part of the dash and the knee airbag. I have nerve damage to the front of my lower legs and my ankle area. I am still treating with medication and still suffering pain on a daily basis. I have been to mayo clinic and still cannot find any "fix" to the damage that was caused by the air bag. I have had surgery on both legs and still no relief. Please help, I think the knee airbags are dangerous and the mfg. Does not even mention the airbags existence in the owners manual.

Light came on indicating an issue with the airbags. Light on most times the car is started, however, a few times it did not appear. Was told that it was a short in the electrical system of the SRS located in the driver's side seat belt clip. The short would result in the airbags not deploying.

Airbag sensor light remains on, thereby rendering the airbags inoperative. Dealer claims vehicle is not covered by recall. Vehicle is currently registered in New York, a state that uses salt to mitigate snow and ice and therefore falls within the criteria for recall. Does my vehicle qualify for recall? (originally may have been registered in fl. Now registered in NY).

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Town and country. The contact started the ignition and the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The light remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. Recently, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to an electrical malfunction in the air bag sensor. The technician advised that the sensor be replaced due to the risk of the air bags not deploying during a front end crash. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 38,000 and current mileage was 67,200.

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Town and country. The contact stated that the air bag sensor light would illuminate on and off without warning. The light would illuminate for approximately 20 seconds and then dim. She also noticed that the failure occurred approximately six times per day. The dealer stated that there was no recall information; therefore, they would offer no assistance. The contact researched NHTSA campaign id number 07V192000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module); however, the manufacturer would not honor the recall. The current mileage was 42,044 and failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

2005 Chrysler mini-van airbag light came on and will not reset. Upon review NHTSA had called for a recall due to corrosion to sensors from road salt. Chrysler then issued a recall, but only for a limited number vehicles. We then scheduled a visit to the dealership they rejected this van as not being under recall. Argued that after the worse year for salt usage, in Ohio would they at least look to see if the van had the "same" problem as those recalled. They stated it would be a minimum of $82 just to look and would still not be covered under recall.

Driver side airbag light on for 3 weeks. Found out that there was a recall on airbag sensor online as we bought this van used. Took to dealer to have recall work done. 2 sensors put in as first one was defective. Airbag light still on and dealer wants to charge $90 for diagnostic and more to fix the problem. Found problem was a faulty wire at the firewall. Still had to pay money for recall work.
