Town & Country 6-cyl

  • 34,500 miles
2005 Chrysler Town & Country van was serviced for scheduled lube, oil, oil filter and air filter replacement at a Chrysler dealership. A Chrysler service rep. Approached me in their waiting room to inform me that the oil, oil filter and air filter service has been completed but there are additional items that needed to be addressed. Additional services needed include: Tire rotation, wiper blades replaced, front brakes, sway bar links and power steering rack replacement. This vehicle was purchased new and has only driven 34,500 miles. The Chrysler service rep. Explained it all as best he could. The cold weather has caused the power steering rack failure to occur. The brakes are needed because the front brakes wear out first. No mention of the tire rotation, but; the sway bar links are noisy when driving the vehicle onto the lift in the service bay. The tires on this vehicle are Goodyear integrity all season tires rated for 50,000 miles of tread life. The rear tires (after rotation) are worn excessively and approaching an unsafe tread wear pattern. The front steering components are failing and are causing this wear. The tires have been rotated as recommended by Chrysler. The power steering rack is defective and the front brakes are insufficient. This vehicle drives 5 days a week on 45 - 65 mph. Paved roads.

Rack & pinion steering assembly failure. Seals in the assembly have failed and power steering fluid has leaked out. Was told by repair shop that it all the fluid drains out the steering system could freeze up causing an accident. The problem was only discovered during a state inspection, so was lucky that it was caught, before it was completely empty. I was told the whole assembly would need to be replaced. I have read that this is a major problem with this vehicle and has happened to thousands of these vehicles.

2005 Chrysler Town and country with multiple problems. Consumer states seat belt light does not illuminate when there are no seat belts on. Passenger air bag light says off when the wheel chair is in the front passenger position. The consumer stated the vehicle was modified to accommodate a wheelchair. The steering gear and egr valve were replaced. The consumer was concerned with Chrysler moving the fiberglass fuel tank behind the axle, instead of moving it to the front where it is less vulnerable. Updated 10/05/15.

We own a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country touring van. At approximately 16000 we had a problem with the rack & pinion and ball joints. It was taken to a dealer that was suppose to have fixed the problem -- we have had problems with items in that area since then. We have enjoyed our vehicle except for this problem -- the latest incident is the tie rod end needs to be replaced and we were told that it would not be covered under the warranty. The vehicle has approximately 51,000 miles on it at this time.

The engine started. 4. she tried to turn and park at the same spot on left side. The steering did not respond and vehicle kept moving in straight direction. 5. she tried to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes repeatedly with no response. 6. she also tried to steer vehicle towards empty space with no result. 7. she put the transmission in parking; it made some loud noise but did not stop the vehicle. 8. there was a steel gate right in front about 40-50 yards from where she started. The vehicle crashed in the gate and stopped. No one was injured. There was damage to the steel gate and the vehicle. 9. I arrived at the place about 15-20 minutes later. I was able to start the engine but did not try to move/reverse it. 10. school authorities informed the police about the incident. 11. around 5 P.M. the vehicle was towed to body shop of golling Chrysler Jeep in bloomfield hills, Michigan 12. Next morning (March 10th), ms sheila from golling Chrysler body shop called me. As per her, the fuel pump of the vehicle has problems and that explains the problem with braking and steering system. She was not able to explain how the engine restarted after stalling and vehicle moved if the fuel pump was broken. She also indicated the vehicle did not start at dealership. There was roughly about $2,000 dollar of body damage. 13. Chrysler has initiated an internal special investigation. I have received no results of investigation or any help for the hardship being faced. Updated 07/16/2012
