Turn key to start and all lights go on and all I hear is one chug. Turn key off wait 1+ minute and try again with 80% success and sometimes have to try more but still wait quite a while before trying will get 0 success. I did read somewhere to pump the gas a few times after failed start with key off and try again and I have done that 2 times now with 100% success on the restart. I don't have $1000 to replace the TIPM that others talk about so I guess I will keep doing this for as long as I can. It's been happening for over 1 year now and it's random as far as frequency. Sometimes a few times a month other times half a dozen or more times a month. Never not been able to get it to start but my heart always skips a beat and stomach drops especially when I have my twin toddlers with me alone. Never had to have it jumped either.

To correct the problem i need to ensure the car is completely off (out of accessory mode) and attempt to restart again - usually works.

2011 Chrysler town and Country. My problem started on May 4, 2016 1st Day Van intermittent cranked up but wouldn't start. Had it towed to Chrysler dealership, they said it may need a starter @ 700.00 parts and labor and a software flashes @ 90.00. On May 6 2016 I had the starter replaced. Tad this car less than a year and already having problems with it. I don't like to curse but if you can read between lines you hear my anger. The car doesn't want to start it stalls. If the car company knows about these problems, why won't they fix it before some one gets killed? My wife is diabetic an now I don't let her drive alone anymore for great the car may not start or shuts down on the expressway during rush hour. What the @&%# do they care or is it about the money? They want people to buy their products and if they stand by them, then fix it before one of my grandchildren or my wife or myself are called to heaven or someone else for that matter (HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT) DO THEY REALLY CARE?

My van was running fine never an issue. One day I shut it off to go into a store, came out and it wouldn't start. Battery is fine. Sometimes, we have to try to play with the shifter or turn the key around and nothing. One day all the dash lights went out, the wipers have gone on without any moisture, daytime running lights have also stopped working, I never lock my van and came out to find the doors locked. It sounds like it wants to start but not getting enough gas. I have also had to lay on the gas pedal to get it going just weird. We let it sit for a bout a half hour come back and it might start. Now its broke down completely and we have to get it towed. It is getting enough juice from the battery. So the saga begins and I see nothing but dollar signs.

Welp, the problem started on Christmas day when my wife went to move the our van just a few feet inside the garage. I noticed almost 20 minutes went past and she hadn't come back inside. When she did she told me that she had trouble starting it up. Low and behold ever since that day, every time I go to start it up, it takes 4 to 5 times trying to turn it on and the engine not turning over.
I drive 33 miles each way to work. Sometimes it'll start right up, and sometimes I have to keep trying until the engine turn over. Sometimes it will shake and turn off and I'll turn the key and it will start right up and stay on. On Monday (1-4-16) I tried to start it up and I got an error message that said "damaged key".
After 11 tries it turned on and I went to the dealership and purchased a key/keyfob. Along with the programming labor I was charged $327 altogether. Hoping this would solve my dilemma I went ahead and paid for it. It started right up when I left the dealership. The next morning....the same thing! I decided to go online and see if anyone else is having the same problem, and I'm here....disgusted just like the rest of you.

The problem occurred about a month after I got the car in 2013 mileage was about 31,000 at the time. I stopped to get gas and the car wouldn't stop. After about 30 minutes later the car started. I didn't have this problem again until last October 2015. I was stranded at night in a strange city at 2:00am until 4:00am in the morning behind a convention center in the dark. I had it towed to the nearest dealer, after towing it, it started. And of course the next morning the service department said they couldn't find anything wrong with the car, it started right up.
I proceeded to drive 658 miles to St. Louis Mo, the next day went to the mall and my car wouldn't start. I had it towed to the dealer they said my entire ignition needed to be replaced. I paid $817 for this on Nov. 12, 2015. Now it is Dec 30th in Macomb Mi and my car won't start, My car is at the dealer today and my car has 100,000 miles on it.

Bought the van in July and within the first day it would not start. Dealer said it was catalytic sensors which were replaced under warranty, problem still persisted, then dealer said it was key and programming which the replaced new fobs and reprogrammed. Still no fix, the van intermittently continues to not start or turn over. Sometimes it starts after moving the shifter around, other times that will not help. Lately the battery seems to drain to the point that the car won't start but the light will be on. Jumping the van usually starts it. I don't know if it's something in the neutral safety switch, tpim, fuel pump relay or something else. The dealership told me they no longer know what it could be and of course half the time they can't replicate it. Every time we get in the van it's fingers crossed hoping it will start.

We have had no problems with our 2011 T&C until October 30th, then she wouldn't crank. Just would turn over and over. then she would crank and we thought ...eh...we actually didn't know what to think. Took it to my trusted local guy and he kept it for a day and could never get it to repeat the problem. cranked fine until the following Monday, then it cranked until the battery died and we needed to jump iy off at my Wife's work. drove it back to my guy and he kept it for two days, and could never get it to repeat the problem. Thought i was going crazy. Then I decided to do a general search on-line about how the van was acting and BAM! found all these complaints about the TIPM, and the symptoms for so many were just like ours. Chrysler needs to recall my make and model year. It isn't right that potentially we will have to replace the module.

All internal electronics turn on when start button pressed, battery is new, parts store verified that battery, alternator, and starter are working fine. When I press the start button the engine tries to turn over but it never kicks in. Press button again to stop the action. After about 8 times the engine finally starts. This has happened a few times in the last week. Other times it starts fine, no problem.

Wife told me that her car, a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country would turn over but wouldn't start and she would have to turn the key 3 or 4 times before the engine would finally start up. She said pushing on the gas pedal seemed to help. I told her the engine is fuel injected so there was no need to press the gas pedal. For several mornings before I left for work in my car (a highly reliable Toyota Highlander) I would start her car, but could not replicate the problem. One Sunday we decided to use her car to go to church. Tried to start the car and bingo -- no go. After 10 minutes of trying to get it started I gave up and we went in my car.
I'm a fairly good amateur mechanic so I researched hard starting problems for 2011 Chrysler T&C's. Looks like thousands of people are having the same issue caused primarily by a faulty fuel pump relay in the Total Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Chrysler Corporation (who the taxpayers bailed out 7 years ago) will not acknowledge there is a problem. The average cost to replace the TIPM is $1000. A class action suit against Chrysler is currently working its way through the courts, but my state is not included in the suit.
I found a fairly cheap fix for my problem here: http://www.verticalvisions.com/TIPM_solutions.php
You can purchase a TIPM fuel pump relay bypass cable for about $30 or there are instruction for fabricating your own bypass cable for about $15 dollars in parts. A full set of instructions is included and the fix takes less that 5 minutes. You do not have to have a lot of mechanical ability for this fix. My wife's car finally got to the point that it would not start at all. I installed the bypass cable and it started right up. My plan is to use the cable until such time as Chrysler Corporation finally does the right thing and recalls these vehicles for a proper repair. If they never do then I'll eventually unload this POS at the same dealer that sold it to me.

-Jan 2015- the key was lodged in the ignition and would not come out. I had it towed to nearest Chry dealer to fix. - Jan to May- car intermittently stalls/won't start. Always started with a jump. -May- battery installed $268. -June/July- car intermittently stalls/won't start. Starts if you wait a while. -August-Won't start/wont jump/towed to mechanic. -Changed my batteries in my key fobs at least 3 times in 2015.
Mechanic said to look at bulletins/info on TIPM and WIN. Other Chrysler year/makes have had exact same issues and were recalled. There is a class action suit for this year/make and many more. How am I still driving? I was given a tip by a mechanic: open the hood and then the fuse box. Remove the M27 fuse. Wait 10 seconds. Replace fuse. Start car. It's been working so far! Apparently, this clears a software lockup in the module.

Hopefully, together we can make this a recall and we can save ourselves over $1000.

So my wife called me and told me that the car did not want to turn on and the lights in the car would flicker. After about the 3 or 4th try the car turned on and she drove it with not issues. 1 day later we were getting ready to leave for a trip and again the car would not start. We tried a few times and long behold the car turned on, but began to shake and turned off. We did not bother to take it out. After taking it to the mechanic, he said there was nothing wrong with the battery, fuel pump, and that it sound electronic. I decided to research this issue and found that I not the only one with this issue. We had the car only 6 months and warranty is up WOW. So more money down the drain. This is my first Chrysler vehicle and would be my last sorry to say. Buyer beware. Now I know why this company was about to go out of business.

I called the dealer because I had many problems getting the car started. It would eventually start but had to try several times or let the car rest before it would start. I am a single 72-year-old female and bought this car new for reliability purposes. I travel a lot by myself. My car now has 55,412 miles.
This was not the first time I have had this problem. I had the same problem when my car had 38,560 miles. the dealer at that time replaced the TIMP. The dealer decided that it was not the TIMP (since they had replaced it 8 months before) and were sure it was the Win Module. They replaced the Win Module and had Chrysler pick it up under the warranty.
Two days after I got my car back, the car would not start.

Van running fine, then one day went out to start for work, and it won't start. Van turns over like it's going to start, lights go on, radio goes on. I have a new battery but I called AAA to get it jumped, not sure if I needed a tow or what. AAA jumped it and it started up just fine. Drove to mechanic who checked everything out. No error codes, and they found nothing.
Van started and ran just fine for 2 more days. Same thing happened... sounds like it will start but won't. Throttle light is on, Check Engine light is on, RUN light is on. Same remedy... AAA came to jump start. Started up just fine. Started up just fine to drive back to mechanic. They did more diagnostics, but no error codes came up at all. Mechanic checked dealership for recalls, and there is one for the rear window switch. I drove away from mechanic not knowing when it will happen again or what is wrong.
I've read online about others having trouble with this van not starting intermittently. Wanted to find out what it was and how other fixed this problem.

Car won't start, Chrysler incorrectly diagnosed it as crank sensor.
- rosseri3, Westerville, OH, US
The issues we are having are described in the other complaints and sound like they are related to the TIPM. Dash lights flickering, won't start, etc.
- jman077, Highlands Ranch, CO, US
Car was really hard to start and once started would randomly die with no warning. Took the dealer two weeks to figure out that they had to replace the TIPM.

I just bought this vehicle about two months ago and was never told about the recall on the back window button. I also have been having the same problem as most people on this website about it not starting. I am seriously angry. I have two kids and really needed this van as my transportation for me and them. I contacted the dealership and made an appointment to check out the problem they tried to tell me that its the start button that needed to be changed. Good thing I did some quick research before I had them fix it because apparently thats not the problem, and I refuse to pay to fix something thats not the problem and spend money that I definately dont have. I contacted the lawfirm that was on one of the posts about a lawsuit that is going on hopefully this will all work out but in the meantime I'm stuck with a car that can catch fire at anytime, that will leave me stranded in the middle of the road, that wont start, and apparently sucks the life out of the battery for no reason GREAT just what I need!!!!!
