My 1998 Dodge Durango has approximately 85K miles on it. It is in the shop today getting new top and bottom ball joints on both sides. Heard about possible investigation. Read others complaints and feel lucky mine made it this may miles. Also have to replace front rotors because they are out of round.

My Durango has just over 60,000 miles on it. It has been very well cared for. During the first 3 years (while under warranty), the vehicle was taken to the dealer to check for squeaks in the front end. They said they lubricated the ball joints and the noise would go away for a day or two... then return. Recently on inspection, I was notified that the upper and lower ball joints needed to be replaced.because of recent announcements of failure of that front assembly due to ball joints, I wanted to add my bit of history as well. This car also has leaking seals on transfer case. I understand many people have had that problem along with transmission failure in the 60-70,000 mile range... so I probably have that to look forward to. I have had the problem looked at twice (once at the local dealer and once at an independent site.) I am on my third set of front tires and only have 64,000 miles on it. The ride is very bumpy. I was forced to repair these items so to prevent a failure of the front suspension. I contacted Dodge regarding this defect yet they would not cover the repair. This is clearly a defect in the Durango and should be covered by the manufacturer.

The front end of my Durango has had over 3 thousand dollars worth of work, and has never had an accident and only has 60,000 miles on it. Both drivers and passenger side ball joints have been replaced (twice). Tie rod ends, control arm, and front shocks have had to all be replaced.the vehicle pulls to the right (dramtically) especially when braking, and has always done so, no matter what we do. This is an on going problem, the last replacement was done approximately 1 year ago.
