I have a 1999 Dodge Durango and I have done research over the vehicle and alot of people are having the same problem it randomly shuts off in the middle of the road and is very very dangerous mine shuts of no less then 7 times from home to the store which is right down the road and I have to drive it I have nothing else and I cant afford to pay hundreds of dollars to have it fix I feel many more people are in the same shape as me and I feel that this is an issue the needs to be addressed immediately for instance earlier today I went to the store and it shut off at a stop sign and I tried to move it out of the road and it was to heavy for me to push until one man came to help me and its the same problem at red lights and much more normal people are always being harassed about no insurance, a light being out and another thing that can be fixed easily and yet when a vehicle shuts off in the road all the police can say is move it or we will tow it its kind of hard to move it when I will not start so please investigate this problem for the safety of myself and others thank you for your time.

I have a 1999 Dodge Durango 5.9L V8 with 173,000 miles on it. I bought it from a private seller and two weeks later I was driving down the road and the car just stalls and reads no bus on speed odometer, then I found out if I wiggle the left black computer plug for a few min it starts back up like nothing happened. Then I searched google and found pages and pages about this problem stalling. I had the car for two months now and took it to the shop and no one can find how to fix this problem.

I have owned this vehicle for almost 2 years. It started last summer when the vehicle started dying for no reason and without warning. Took to mechanic said O2 sensor. Replaced. Then does it a few days later. Took back. Transmission slipping. Rebuilt. Then winter comes runs great. Thought problem was fixed. So this summer comes, starts dying again. So took to a mechanic said it was the crank shaft sensor. Replaced. Did it as I left his house. He took it back said it was the PCM. Am still waiting for one after the one I got was bad. Replaced another O2 sensor and it dies 5 times on my way home yesterday with my 7 year old and my 7 month old in my vehicle. I live in California so to be stranded on the side of the road in 92 degree weather is unacceptable. This is not fair, and after only searching for 5 minutes I have found hundreds of complaints on this vehicle and nothing has been done. It is dangerous for a vehicle to die going down the freeway at 65 miles per hour with children in the car and it just dies leaving you with no control of the vehicle and barely being able to get off the road. I was nearly rear ended by a semi the other day on the freeway. So scary. If any thing happens to my children I will sue!!

I have a 1999 Dodge Durango and as almost everyone else my PCM failed and the second one is failing now just one year later! Dodge dealers here all knew about the problem so one would assume Dodge knows. The placement of the PCM on the passenger front fender gathers exes heat off the manifold which causes it to fail. This problem not only cost way to much to repair, it is a dangerous situation, while driving when the PCM fails the vehicle shuts off dead. A loss of power steering and breaks is a terrifying experience on a vehicle that is as large as this one. With all the complaints filled on this vehicle something need done!

Recently I have been having issues with my 1999 Dodge Durango losing all power. The odometer ready "no bus" and nothing in the truck works, not even the brakes. I did some research online and found out that this is a common problem with the Durango. I also found out that it's due to the location of the truck's computer. It is extremely close to the engine and with the increased heat during the summer, the combination is too much for the computer to handle so it shuts down. The best reference of this I read was "the brain stop talking to the body" that indicates how serious this is. I haven't done anything to fix the issue because it was manufactured this way and I'm unsure if the computer can be moved without causing other problems. This has happened to me at least 10 times. All occurrences were days it was hot outside. At least 90 degrees. This problem is so dangerous. I was on the highway when it happened the first time, and had no clue what to do. I know now to let it cool off, but I would like to be able to drive my truck when I need to! this is a very serious problem. I'm sure that someone has been killed or injured as a result of this.

I will be driving on the freeway up to 70mph then the car will turn off, goes dead everything gets locked really hard to keep in control after everything locks up. This happens every time I drive it, I have stopped driving it on the freeways due to it goes dead after a few miles. I have been told it will be my (cbm) or the main computer it gets hot and it reset it self after 20min of no bus which will appear on the mileage reader and I read lots of the same issue I am having.

1999 Dodge Durango. Truck has been stalling and dying for over a year now, with no warning. The vehicle will shut down causing you to lose power brake + steering. I've changed all sensors. Plugs, wires etc, and still stalls. No mechanic or dealer can re-create the problem and Dodge has no record of this problem being an issue, I'm the first! ha!

Dodge Durango 1999 engine just dies while driving gauges drop engine stalls, then hold on and pray that nobody hits you, I have had the PCM replaced at the dealer $850 only for it to start the same problem 5 weeks later, I have taken it back to the dealer they say it shows no error and without it being down they are unable to test any further. This is very dangerous. I have spent over $1300 and many hours on the side of the road. This needs to be addressed by Dodge! I have been lucky to avoid numerous accidents.

The Dodge Durango 1999, stalls completely with no warning or reason. After a brief period of time (5 minutes) it runs again. There is no apparent problem when scanned or is serviced. The imminent danger is that when it stalls everything locks and if you are driving on a highway it is potential risk to the driver and the passengers.

My 1999 Dodge Durango turns off anytime the temperature gets above 85F. This happens in stop and go traffic and even driving at 70 mph. When this happens you loose all control of the car. I have replaced the PCM but it still keeps happening. One day someone will rear end me and my children.

Owner of Dodge Durango 2 weeks ago my car stopped all of a sudden on the highway, I waited at least 15 minutes thereafter car started again. Truck allowed me to make close to my home, before stopping again. Although this time I waited 30 minutes before vehicle would started again. I finally arrived home parked the vehicle in the driveway. Next morning truck started but could not make it out of my driveway, it continue to shut down. I decided to have it towed. Repair station installed fuel pump, partial injection cleaning and idle, I drove the truck for 1 hour parked in the driveway, woke up next morning truck would not start, few minutes later started up again, I took truck to repair shop but they were unable to id any problems.thereafter, truck stopped again, I decided to tow to dealership whom replaced crankshaft sensor, tune up and full injection cleaning for $950 but truck still continues to stop, now dealer tech has stated PCM needs to be replaced which will cost $800 this is totally insane, based on all the $ spend, it could have been a down payment on another truck. Dodge daimler Chrysler should be held responsible for all repairs and through investigation, especially since no one can identify root cause, also not to mention occurrences are jeopardizing people lives due to the vehicles continues to cease working at any given time.

Back in the summer of 2008 I was having issues with my 1999 Dodge Durango shutting off for no reason. I did some online searching and found the PCM, ECM unit was over heating, after cooling it with an ice pack for 5 minutes the car would start again. After 3 months I finally bought I rebuilt PCM on ebay, they programmed the unit for my car and it ran better then ever. Well today 6/4/2010 don't you know it did it again but this time the unit is completely dead, I still have the old unit and popped that in and wow it started. We need to fight Dodge on this to relocate the PCM on the firewall near the battery where it stays cool. All the heat from the engine is blown to that side of the car causing this issue. How to do we get Dodge to fix this like others have said someone will get hurt and I hate to trash a car with only 74,000 miles on it.

I purchased a 1999 Dodge Durango and the vehicle shuts off when driving without notice. It is unsafe and dangerous. This happens everytime the vehicle is driven. I have invested thousands of dollars to fix and not even the dealer can fix. I have replaced the PCM, sensors, fuel pump to no avail. The vehicle is just sitting in my driveway, I cant do anything with it.

The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving at speeds of 45 mph, the vehicle began to idle roughly. The warning gauges began to fluctuate sporadically and the vehicle then stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure but advised the malfunction may have potentially been caused by a computer malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 167,000.

PCM is located on the right fender well. The radiator fan also blows onto the right fender. The extreme heat causes the printed circuit board inside the PCM to warp when it gets hot and causes the engine too stall. Once the printed circuit board cools and flatten outs it runs fine until it gets so hot that it warps again. I was able to duplicate this problem by using a blow dryer on the PCM. When it got hot the engine stalled. As soon as it cooled it restarted. I resolved the issue by covering the PCM with a heat deflecting insulation wrap and by also running an air duct from the grill directly to the PCM. The problem could be solved by creating some electrical pigtails that would allow you to relocate the PCM to the left fender away from the direction of the radiator fan heat.

1999 Dodge Durango completely shuts down without warning. This seems to happen when the vehicle has warmed up. We replaced the crank position sensor, still the same problem. Research and diagnostics point to the PCM module. There are 94 other complains at the following site: www.carcomplaints.com/Dodge/Durango/1999/electrical/vehicle_shuts_down_without_warning.shtml this is a huge safety issue, the truck completely shuts down, if this is not addressed someone is going to get seriously injured or killed, I am afraid to put my children in this vehicle now. Its impossible to predict when it will happen, at 55 on the highway it could be a life and death situation. Please do the research on this problem, this should be a recall, someone is going to get hurt, just from the brief amount of time I have researched I have found an abundance of complaints for the same problem.

1999 Dodge Durango slt 8cyl 5.9L automatic- vehicle died without warning -replaced battery - died again -replaced battery - checked alternator - checked PCM - check gauges light coming on as battery voltage too low - air bag light intermittently turns on while driving, cycling the beeping on and off, randomly. Frustrated as have been to several mechanics and no one seems to know how to fix these issues. Want to be sure airbag isn't going to randomly activate. Concerned with vehicle suddenly turning off while on highway.

Same problem as hundreds of others, 1999 Durango shuts off, has been doing it for about 1 month now. No particular rhyme or reason as to when it is going to happen, as it will do it while sitting still or going 55 mph. Getting the no bus reading in odometer, usually restarts within several minutes. I can not let my wife or teenage son drive this vehicle. Have replaced battery cables, disconnected electrical connections going into ECM and cleaned, and made sure same connections are tight. Will probably end up replacing ECM, but not too confident about the outcome. Now that winter is coming, this may get scary !!!
