I previously complained about steering problem with 2000 Dodge Durango. I paid nearly $2,000 in October 2003 to have problem fixed. It still pulled to the left. Mechanic said that it was because the tires were worn out. I just bought new tires and the car pulls to the right real bad. I went back to the tire store they replaced the front left tire and I still have problem. I am concerned for my and my families safety. When I go over a bump or train track or groove in the road my car jumps to the left.

I have had my 2000 Durango in to the dealership (when it was under warranty) for spongy, loose, pulsing braking, noise from the suspension, & a chirping/squeaking sound (alternator like) when it is cold outside. The suspension noise was corrected with new spacers in the leaf springs (which they admitted were a problem). I was told that the pulsing in the brake pedal was normal for the Durango & not to worry about it. They did a balance & told me it took care of the problem. It didn't. they could not "duplicate" the chirping (after 2-3 visits) although it happens for me every day. Now we are out of warranty after reading many of the complaints for the same problems here, I'm just waiting for something to happen. Will my children be injured as a result? this vehicle has 32K miles which are 99% highway is in cherry condtion. I've decided to take it to a private mechanic (Napa) & pay for his opinion on the rotors, ball joints, arms, brakes, water pump/alternator, etc. Once I've paid for his opinion, how do we get Dodge to pay for the repairs...since they won't own up to any of the problems. Is there going to be a recall on the rotor/brake problem or the ball joint/arm problem? my brakes usually last at least 60K miles & I have never had problems with suspension on any of my new cars. Then, I'm getting rid of it.

2000 Dodge Durango. Popping sound coming from somewhere around the steering column. Have taken it in to Dodge three times and they cannot "duplicate" the problem. Sound occurs when steering slightly to the left or right. Have mentioned ball joint issue reported on the news and I'm told that can't be it. Mechanics at Dodge refuse to admit there is a problem with ball joints. Problem continues.

Durango 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission

Purchased 2000 Durango w/70K miles in 5/01. Compalined about front end several times, roughness. Also transmission not shifting. After a few warranty repairs and several costly repairs, torque converter brakes wheel bearings brakes again, the vehicle was out of warranty and they immediately said I need control arms and upper and lower ball jouints. I cant afford to replace them at this point, I am waiting for them to go out while I am driving down the freeway. This car has had numerous probblems. Door lock actuators, ac, heater, fuel pump, water pump, starter coils, the little stuff was always fixed under warranty after an argument, now I am reading about all these other complaints from people with the same problems...thought you would like to know about another party w/ the same problems, should I send you the receipts and there notes for stuff wearing out"is there yet a recall on these ball joints and bearings so maybe they will get fixed before I end up in a crash"

Durango 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles
I have always had problems with my Durango since about 12,000 (now have 68,000). Replacement of ball joints, brake calipers, and continuous checks for clicking and vibration feeling in the steering column (mostly when turning left). Now I am told that I must invest $750. For a new power steering rack. I don't mind paying for normal wear and tear, but this has not been right from the start. I believe there is something defective with the steering and front end. Each time it is the left side with the problem. This just does not seem right. I have enjoyed my Durango except for these front end problems. I am now to the point of selling at a loss since I do not feel safe driving my Durango. The steering makes noises and has a funny response to the turning process. Could you please review closer at least for those who will still be owning a Durango.

While traveling at highway speed, the truck suddenly veered to the right and struck a retaining wall and went into a spin. There were no other cars on the road and the weather was clear. Upon exiting the vehicle the passenger side front wheel and suspension were separated form the truck. Had the tire or wheel or suspension failed prior to the accident or were they damaged after impact with the barrier, I am unable to tell. We have no explanation for the sudden loss of control of the vehicle. The truck is currently in possession of allstate insurance Agency and VIN is [xxx].
