This is regarding the latest safety recall notice H45 to my 2005 Dodge Durango SUV to the fuel tank inlet check valve. Since receiving this notice I have taken my car to Dodge dealer in mount airy, Maryland, a total of six times, which does not include visits to order parts and return when the part was received, approximately twelve time, I've been to this dealer. I have been very patient trying to work with Dodge, but I am losing patience, as well as any confidence in Chrysler statement 'we're sorry for any inconvenience, but we are sincerely concerned about your safety' as stated in their notice. Each time they have worked on my car, and I fill the tank, it continues to spew gas all over me, my car, the ground, until one day given the situation, gas fumes igniting and starting a critical mishap. This is a dangerous situation and Chrysler refuses to address, on my behalf. After my third visit, I attempted to contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403, with my frustrations, and was told there was nothing they could do, and I needed to work with my dealer in mt. Airy to resolve the problem. This latest visit, October 19, 2009, where they supposedly replaced the entire tank, has left me with additional problems. The engine light stays on if fuel is below a quarter of a tank (which has never occurred before) and the odometer statement (where the numbers are) reads 'gascap', even though I replace the gas cap no differently than I have for the past five years. I am very concerned about my safety as well as anyone that happens to be around me at the time of fill-up. Please advise me on anything that I can do at this point. I am speaking with an attorney, but don't feel that I should have to go this route. Your prompt reply is requested.

Fuel spills out of filler neck every time I try to fuel up no matter what station or how slowly I try to fill. I get gasoline all over my vehicle, myself, and the ground. Dodge dealer told me it needs a fuel tank replaced at $750. I find a recall on this exact problem for 2005 Durangos, but they tell me it doesn't apply to mine. Same problem, same vehicle - are they yanking my chain?

Chrysler has recalled 2005 Durango's made during a certain time for fuel component failures. (recall id # 09V003000) even though I did not receive a recall notice my vehicle is experiencing the same problem and was diagnosed with the same problem. However, Chrysler states that my problem is a result of component failure and they will not assist in any way in correcting the problem. The dealer will not assist me except to offer me a 20% discount on parts and labor. My son-in-law's 2005 Dodge truck also has the same problem as well as a 2007 Chrysler aspen purchased by a friend of mine. I believe this problem is way more wide spread than Chrysler is willing to admit. The problem is that when I auto fill my gas tank, when the auto shut off kicks in, gas gushes out of the tank, runs down the car and puddles on the ground. When filling the gas tank, the gas will spill out of the hole when it is about full. This will occur every time you try to fill up the tank unless you stand beside the tank and listen to when you think it is about full. Since this has happened, we have had the gas tank replaced. DaimlerChrysler put a recall on 26,000 vehicles for this same type of complaint. It is complaint # E01, but when I called them, they are stating that since my vehicle was not listed, it was not part of the recall and are doing nothing about it. It is the exact same complaint that the recall was for.

I just bought a used 2005 Dodge Durango last week. Each time I've tried to put gas into it, it spits it right back up. In order to put $20 worth of gas in, I have to pump and let go about 20 times (about every dollar inteval) and even then, some gas squirts out or atleast gurgles around the opening when I pull the nozzle out. I read about the recall online and had a new gas tank put in today, free of charge of course. The problem is as soon as I left the dealership and tried to put gas in, the same thing happened - maybe even worse. The pump now cuts me off every 2-3 seconds. It takes forever!!!! I went back and was told the recall was just for the tank and it's "probably" a problem with the fuel filler tube"??? he quoted me 264 + tax just for the parts of something that is "probably" the cause. Should the filler tube have been replaced as well" I can't believe that I am still experiencing this problem. Oh yeah, most people with this complaint say that the fuel spits back when their tank is full. Well it doesn't matter how much gas my Durango has in it. Even if I have less than a quarter of a tank, the same thing happens. This is damaging the paint since the gas is constantly running down the side of the vehicle.

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango that was manufactured 03/2005. I have a fuel tank that is malfunctioning just like what was referenced in your case #: 09V003000. I have been in contact with the local dealership and the national Dodge website and they tell me that the recall does not effect my vehicle. However, the recall is for the exact same thing. They are wanting 400 to replace this tank. I feel that it is a huge hazard. Everytime I get gas it spits back at me and all over the ground some times a very large amount.

My 2005 Dodge Durango has a problem described in the following recalls by the NHTSA: 05V034000 and 09V003000. I contacted the Dodge dealership where I bought my vehicle and they told me there was not a recall on my VIN, to contact Dodge corporation. Dodge corporation verified that my Durango was not part of the recall, yet it has the 'spit back' problem described in the recall.

I have the fuel spit back issue addressed in Chrysler recall 05V-034, even though my truck was built in 3-05, after the supposed date of the manufacturing fix. The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. When filling the gas tank, fuel will continue to pump even when the gas tank is full. As a result, fuel spillage occurs. The contact feels that this is a safety hazard because a fire could occur in the presence of an ignition source. She is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The manufacturer would not provide compensation because there were no current recalls. The failure mileage was 44,000 and current mileage was 44,300.

NHTSA recall # 09V003000 / 2005 Dodge Durango / my Dodge Durango has exhibited the same problems as vehicles covered under recall # 05V-034. The problem is related to fuel spilling out of the filler neck after the pump has shut off. I discovered that Chrysler had expanded the recall to include additional vehicles built between 10/13 and 11/30/2004. The recall states that process modifications were implemented on 11/24/04 to address the spit back problem and they believe that the process changes would have been incorporated in all vehicles built at the assembly plant as of 11/30/04. I checked my VIN number and the date the vehicle was manufactured (01/05), upon discovering it did not include vehicles built after 11/04, I contacted a local dealer and explained the problem I was encountering. Contacted Chrysler directly, after explaining the issue with the first level representative I was transferred to the next level (ref # 18546515). After discussing the issue in depth she finally agreed to have my local dealer evaluate the problem and if it was determined to be an issue with the fuel tank/check valve that Chrysler would assist in paying for the repairs. She stated that if that was the issue the cost could be close to $1000 for the repair and I would be responsible for approximately $400. I insisted that if it was the same issue as covered in previous recalls that Chrysler should cover the total cost of the repair. The dealer's invoice clearly states the problem was found to be the fuel tank check valve was not closing back. The dealer also stated that the diagnosis and repairs were exactly the same as covered under the recalls. They replaced the fuel tank, check valve and O-ring. My portion of the repair was $326. I feel Chrysler should reimburse me for my out of pocket the repair.

Every time the fuel tank is filled on my 2005 Dodge Durango fuel sprays or flows from the fuel neck. This is a vehicle I just purchased used and has done it every time I have filled it. The vehicle has no evidence of ever being in a collision or having any damage to the undercarriage.
