Power door locks do not work at all. When battery is disconnected for a few minutes and then reconnected, door locks will work for about 30 seconds then fail again. When lock button is pressed on remote key faub, the lights flash, but doors do not lock. I was told that a module needs to be replaced.

The power door locks on our 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT stopped working, including the auto-lock feature when the vehicle hits 20 mph. The internal power locks did not work and using the remote to lock or unlock the vehicle also did not work. The internal auto side door opener mounted with the information center did not work as well as the chimes that sound when the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open. After searching the internet, I found that pulling the oid fuse for 5 seconds had worked for a large number of other people who all have encountered this problem. Pulling and reinserting the fuse has corrected the problem for the time being. The locks on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan no longer work. I am reading forum after forum and everyone with this year model is having the same problem. They are saying that Dodge dealerships are having to replace the body control module and some are having to be reflashed. This is a huge problem, because the lights flash and you are unaware that your car is not being locked. It is open and vulnerable for all to enter. I only noticed this as I locked it (I thought) and then had to get right back in for something. This is a common problem among this year of vehicle and needs to have someone look into it.

2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8 V6 electric door locks stop working. From research, it has to do with reprogramming the BCM (body control module). By disconnecting the battery, the locks work temporarily anywhere from a day to a month. The door locks stop working without any signs. I believe this should be a recall due to the safety concerned of having to manually unlock and lock doors as they are not designed to be done manually since the vehicle was equipped with power locks. Also, the BCM reprogramming from the dealer appears to be semi-permanent as some persons have had to receive a new BCM to fix the problem.

The auto locking mechanism stopped working on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The auto lock now only works on the back hatch door. There are only two manual key holes, one on the driver's side and one on the back hatch. The doors do not lock automatically at 20 mph, pressing the interior lock button does nothing, using the key fob lock button does nothing. The first time it happened, we changed the relay switch, and that seemed to fix the problem, but now it is occurring again. I checked out this problem and it seems to be pervasive on this model, therefore, I believe this to be a manufacturing defect and should either be covered by the warranty or a recall issued for the computer upgrade that is needed. Consumers should not be forced to compensate for Chrysler's lack of quality in this area. I also believe this is a serious safety issue, especially since the majority of van owners are parents of small children who would be at risk in this situation. However, to this point, Chrysler has irresponsibly refused to issue a recall. Multiple electrical failures. Backup lights, door locks, interior lights, right side power window, and sliding side doors. The items do not function on our van. Upon pulling the battery terminal these items will work for a short period of time and then cease to function again. After extensive research on the internet and several hundred dollar in dealer "repairs" I have discovered that this is due to a software problem with the body control module on the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The fix is supposed to be a firmware update to the BCM provided by Dodge. The issue I have is that if this is a software/firmware update to the van's computer why should the dealer expect me to pay $70 so my vehicle will function properly the same as it did when purchased. No modifications have been made to the van and it currently has just over 60K mileage. These problems have been around prior the end of the 3/36K warranty but since such a long time has passed the dealer will no longer honor any type of warranty on this vehicle. My complaint is that if this is a known software issue/fault with the van's software then Dodge should upgrade them for free. It's not as if this is a wear and tear or customer induced failure. This is a fault in the core design of the vehicle.

Auto door locks fail to work suddenly. I searched the internet for people having the same issue and was amazed to see many people with the same problem and the same make and model. Problem can be temporarily fixed by pulling out the iod fuse in the fuse panel for a minute and reinserting it. This only solves the problem for a week or so. This is a potential safety hazard as my wife and kids spend a lot of time in the vehicle and the doors not locking poses a potential problem exiting the vehicle in an emergency as well as the potential for someone to enter the vehicle while driving such as carjacking, etc....with as many complaints as I have read, and obviously the manufacturer being aware of the issue, I feel this should be recalled immediately....

There is over 70 complaints on this vehicle as of today's date on this site. No matter if some may be duplicates or not but this is a problem. The BCM has to be reprogrammed or it needs to have a software upgrade. The only other temporary solution is to disconnect the battery or fuse. This model has only one external key hole on the drivers door. And manually locking the van doors makes loading and unloading small children difficult. Also shopping and you forget to lock one of the doors and forget for a brief moment the locks don't work and press your keychain and go on with your shopping and when you come back to leave you stuff is all gone cause you had a stupid moment and forgot I paid for an option on my car that just cost me $1,500 because it failed to lock. It also poses a serious hazard in the event a quick escape from the vehicle is needed. While it also poses a risk for our safety if we were to encounter a carjacker. We would not be able to lock the doors throughout the vehicle if necessary. It is not safe for adults nor children without options on a vehicle that we paid extra for to not only to have as a convenience but as a safety precaution. We the consumer should not have to pay over and over to have something fixed that we did not cause to happen.

My vehicle was in motion this morning (well beyond home and the point where the autolocks supposedly engaged) when my 2-year old managed to push the side door release button with a toy and the door started to slide open. The child safety lock indicator tab on the door indicated the child safety lock was engaged. Upon arrival at work, I googled this and found multiple reports of failing locks. I walked out to my car to find it unlocked, despite the fact that the horn had sounded indicating the vehicle was locked. I have been unable to figure out how to lock the lift gate, so it appears to me as if my car is permanently unlocked. This is a safety concern when the door can be triggered in motion or someone could enter my car through the lift gate. With all of the complaints out there - how is there not at least a tsb on this item" this is disgraceful given the demographic driving the Grand Caravan. I guess we want to wait for a child to fall out in transit or someone to be carjacked, raped, or killed"
