the door locks not working is a safety hazard and a pain when will dodge own up to this and where is our great safety standards com in this country are they sitting on there ass or being payed off to look the other way

This could not be more of a pain. Like everybody else, the door locks don't work, from the key fob or from the switch inside the car. I've tried taking the fuse out and putting it back in, doesn't work. Two small kids, one exterior key hole to unlock the car, plus a rainy september and october make me an incredibly grouchy mom. Can't seem to get hubby to do anything, and just to look at it at the dealership is going to cost me $250. They, of course, say they have no idea what it could be, I just need to drop my car off with them. What makes me even madder, after reading all the complaints, is that they know exactly what the hell is wrong with the car. I have seriously had it with Dodge. Never buying another one.

Interesting all of the complaints about the power door locks not working. I am going to try the removal of the fuse. Neither of the power locks on our sliding doors works. I am quite sure Dodge is aware of this issue and chooses to do nothing.

Everyone report your caravan problems to www.nhtsa.dot.gov maybe if they get enough complaints they will make Dodge recall them.

I'm glad I found this site. I had the same problem with the power locks not working -- and just before starting the search for a new van. So, after reading a few postings I went out and disconnected the negative cable on the battery. I waited a minute, reconnected the battery cable and TADA! -- it worked. It may be a temporary fix but hopefully it'll last long enough for the dealer to inspect the vehicle for trade-in.

It's deja vu all over again. Last year the same thing happened. The failure happened in early August I fixed it. It happened 2 weeks later I fixed it. It didn't happen again until this year in early August so I fixed it. Now it's 11 days later and I did it again.
Pull the 20A IOD and put it back in and it works fine. Takes about 2 minutes to pop the hood, pull the fuse, put it back, and close the hood. I just wish it would stop happening. This problem is widespread and they should have fixed it but since their customer service is worthless I guess they won't. I'll never buy another Dodge vehicle again.

Yes I will not buy another dodge product ever. When this is paid off I told my wife I'm going to cut the roof off of it so I won't need any door locks again. This is a pain in the butt. What's up with only one lock on the outside of the car. this is my third van and I should have never traded in my 1987. It's been all down hill from there with my dodge products.

Power door locks wont work,If I disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect it the locks will work, for a day a month or a few minutes,you never know.with as many complaints as i see there should be a recall for this problem,or a class action suit.Because this is definatly a mfg.defect.

I pulled the IOD fuse and replaced it after 10 seconds and the problem has gone away...for now.
I went back and checked and it has been almost exactly one year since the last time this happened. The first time it happened I pulled the IOD fuse and put it back after 10 seconds and the locks worked again, but only for a couple of weeks. I pulled the fuse again the second time and put it back in and it has been working fine for a year. I hope it lasts even longer this time, but I wouldn't bet anything on it. The really annoying part is that the vehicle is paid for so I would like to keep it for a long time, but with crap like this happening it makes it very difficult to want to keep it for long. No wonder the company is bankrupt, their quality sucks!

We got this car used, and the left sliding door (driver side) had been worked on, reassembled wrong so the plastic panel rubbed the body of the car opening and closing. The powerlock on that door was non-functional. After a few months, suddenly all powerlocks stopped working except the tailgate. I pulled the IOD fuse when I read other similar complaints, and it's working for now, except the one sliding door.
Update from Aug 11, 2009: Well, I replaced the driver side slider actuator, and for the first time all doors work perfectly. We'll hope this lasts. so far, so good for a few days. Here's a laugh: I thought I had bought a bad actuator when I put it in and it didn't work properly, and after several times pulling it out and even opening it, adjusting springs and lubricating, I realized I hadn't run the car for a couple days while working on the powerlocks. You guessed it! the battery was dying. With the battery recharged and the actuator returned to original condition, it worked perfectly. Also note, I didn't have to take out the latch from the car door! the one screw that locks the actuator on the latch is visible through a hole cut in the inner panel, so I just had to finagle the screw in and out through the hole, and the actuator slides on and off the latch (make sure to engage the door lock pin when installing, or it won't operate the lock)

I had the same problem with doors not locking and thanks to some of your comments I was able to reset by pulling fuse. Now, the doors lock but will not auto lock when van reaches certain speed, which I think should 18 mph. Any more help?

Same issue everyone on here has reported. My locks stopped working in April 2009 and pulling the 20 amp fuse worked for a few months (we had to pull it every 2 weeks) but now nothing seems to fix it. I don't feel that I should have to pay for it because it is not my fault it isn't working. Also, my power window on passenger's side doesn't work when it is hot out. I have also had to have the transmission fixed at 35,000 miles. I don't think I would buy another Dodge Caravan. They need to recall the doors and fix them.

Although I see a LOT of posts about this, I'll describe it a bit anyways.
Simply put, the door locks quit responding to and power stimuli. Not the switches on the doors or the FOB. When you lock it with the FOB the van does beep to tell you "Hey! hey! You think I'm locked but oh you poor fool, I'm not."
Nothing has permanently fixed the problem. Mechanics said replace the BCM like the rest of you but I didn't bother. I've learned it's easy enough to simply disconnect one of the battery cables and reset the computer or just do it by hand.
I know I sound not so concerned about this but I'm over the anger. Van's for sale. Anyone interested?

The door locks stopped working. As recommended in complaint #39 here I pulled fuse 10D (20amp) and plugged it back in. The door locks worked immediately thereafter. Thanks for the help. If this is a common problem with the vehicle Dodge should definitely recall and fix. If this problem occurred during a rain storm while trying to get in I'd be ticked.

My door locks would automatically lock when I hit 20 mph but then they would continue to go up and down for 5 minutes or longer. Then they completely stopped working. Brought it in and they tried reprogramming the locks, and that didn't work. So they replaced the BCM and that didn't work. So they thought that that BCM was bad and put a new one in. It worked for 3days. Now it has effected everything on my dashboard. Gas gauge doesn't work, engine lights are on , etc... And it is draining my battery completely dead when I park for a period of time. Do you know what it's like to come out in the morning to go to work, and your battery is completely dead! This van has been nothing problems! Now Chrysler is filing bankruptcy so I cannot get a new BCM until after that. They're telling me 3-4 months. And the garage had to rig up a wire so my battery wouldn't get drained every time I park it. If I would have read this website before buying it, I would have NEVER bought a Dodge van. Never again!

Thanks for the fix on this site. I removed the 20 amp fuse and the door locks started to function again. This was a major pain to crawl around and lock the doors individually.

Multiple problems with a van I love. Locks don't work. I like my push buttons. I will try these ideas for the locks. It started with sliding driver side I thought it was kids and spouse at first, but it wasn't. I have to crawl over to unlock door. YUK. ABS light I fix by adding fluid.

WTF, this automatic door-lock problem sucks. The door locks work, then they don't work. I remove fuses and put them back in. It works for a while, then the same crap happens and all the door locks stop working again. This sucks!! I wish there was a better solution then paying out the back-side to get this crap fixed.

So after reading that everyone was having the same problem as me (which is somewhat bothersome that its so common) I told my husband what the quick fix is but we are having to pull out the iod fuse and put it back almost every day sometimes twice a day. It's becoming a real pain in the ass. Can anyone tell me what the REAL fix is? What needs to be replaced?
