Serious safety issue. My van starts on its own. The horn blares and won't stop. Wipers come on and the engine won't stop. Does this without a key in the ignition. When driving you lose complete control of the transmission and the engine will not turn off. Dodge needs to do a recall and something needs to be done. I'm afraid to park in the garage because it starts on its own. I'm worried the carbon monoxide will asphyxiate my family. I've called the Dodge main headquarters and they play dumb like they never heard of this happening. I found thousands of complaints online. It's in the Dodge dealer right now. Hoping to fix the issue. They don't know what the problem is. The actual problem is called a bad tipm (totally integrated power module).

The van completely shut down while I was in the middle of making a U turn. The engine, the electrical just stopped working and the steering wheel got really tight but I was able to glide to the side of the road. I turned the key to the off position put the van in park and then I was able to restart it. I took it to Dodge and they repaired the power steering saying that was the problem. Not so, this has happened 3 times since the first and nothing has been done to repair the problem. Today is 8/29/2014 and I am stranded because it won't turn on at all. Waiting for aaa.

Vehicle started accelerating unintentionally with engine going to high RPM. Driver was driving at 45 mph as vehicle randomly took off. Vehicle reached close to 85 mph with the brake pedal pressed to the floor. Driver avoided a near collision with another vehicle. Driver turned the ignition off in order to stop the vehicle. Vehicle had two people inside during the incident and two witnesses following the vehicle behind, in another car. Witnesses described seeing the Dodge Caravan take off suddenly beyond the legal speed limit, with smoke pouring out from the brakes and the brake lights on. Driver described that he felt the throttle pedal physically stuck and the vehicle's RPM increasing, even while pressing and pumping on the brake pedal. After this incident and doing some research, we have found numerous complains online with similar situations. The Dodge Caravan, in this incident, does not have any aftermarket floor mats as Dodge claims to be the cause of unintentional acceleration in similar occurrences that have been reported to Dodge. The driver, passenger, and the witness are willing to make a statement, if necessary.

As I was driving home from the store this morning, I was taking a turn onto my street when the engine shut off and I lost power steering and brakes. I was barely able to muscle the steering wheel to complete the rest of the turn and avoid hitting another car that was turning to go the way that I was coming from. The lady in the other car was looking at me in fear with her arms raised like "what are you doing!?" I tried to turn the engine on several times with no luck as I coasted down my street forcefully pumping the brakes to slow down and stop in front of my house. Once I took the key out of the ignition and tried to restart the engine, it started. I did some research on the internet and this seems to be a problem with other models as well. There is even a recall on Dodge Grand Caravan that were manufactured from 3 August 2009 to 17 June 2010 for this exact problem. I have read on this website and many others that this issue exists outside these dates though and that the Dodge company is not doing anything. I have not consulted with my dealership yet but I am hopeful because they seem to be great people. Whatever the case, I do not feel safe having my wife drive my children around. I do not feel as if she would be able to muscle the steering wheel without power steering during a turn in the event that the car turned off in the middle of a turn as it did to me. This is a huge safety issue and there should be a recall issued to encompass all the years that are affected and not just the ones where people have been killed.

Passenger side rear sliding door locks and will not unlock with key fob or unlock button on both front doors. It also will not open with a pull on the inside door handle. You have to manually unlock it on that door before it will open. I think this would cause a issue if I ever need to get my kids out in a hurry! also this van has 30000 miles on it and it uses approximately 1-1/2 quart of oil every 1000 miles. Its not showing any sighs of leaking anywhere in the engine or under the van and not leaving any puddles anywhere. I asked the Dodge dealership and they said this was normal for a Dodge vehicle.... in my eyes that should not be using that much oil. I am using what is required 10W20 sae according to me owners manual. I have replaced the PCV valve and still continuing to loose oil.

I was driving about 5 mph leaving my place of work and the vehicle stalled as I was driving it and I lost power steering and power brakes-very scary-fortunately I was just leaving work and not driving too fast. I was able restart it and drove home without another issue. Then a couple weeks later, the vehicle did the same thing. I was going about 10 mph when the vehicle stalled again-no power steering or brakes-very scary!- the vehicle has also failed to turn over for no apparent reason-this has happened at least 3-4 times, I will go to start it -it seems dead-but then I wait a minute and then restart-and it turns over no problem-no rhyme or reason as to why these things occur.

On numerous occasions my 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT will shut down unexpectedly while driving. Plugs, wires and battery have been changed. Win module has been changed at my request and not covered under warranty. The vehicle has been to the dealership numerous times and they have been able to find anything because no codes have been thrown. I replaced the fob recently thinking the key my be worn out but that has not improved the situation. Dodge is aware of the issue but refuse to do anything about it until I guess someone id killed. The engine died and would not turn back on while driving. Suspect this is due to faulty ignition win control module or ignition system. Nearly caused a crash. Was able to slow down (lost brakes, and power steering) and pull to side of the road avoiding being hit by other cars. Tried starting the vehicle several times it then started again. ( took to dealership and they changed out our fob/key thing. And seemed to fix the issue. Most recently 3/12/14 parked, attempted to restart vehicle 10 min later and the key will not turn over the engine.(plastic fob type key) no starter noise. ( lights work, key in ignition warning ding occurs. Lights turn on but no radio, or engine start. Will not restart now.
