Grand Caravan

  • 133,000 miles
We have a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT with 133,000 miles and since the day we got it back in July all it has done while driving is shut down/shut itself off. Lights on dashboard will come on, flash and van will just shut down. Key refuses to come out at times, have no hazard lights when this happens, and it can take anywhere from 5-30 minutes for the van to even start again. This happens on the interstate and in the city, doesnt matter really where we are, even at stop lights/stop signs

2010 Dodge Grand Caravan 108000 miles. At time of this complaint, we have owned vehicle for only two months. For no apparent reason and no warning; engine will stall. This has happened both at a stop sign and rounding a curve at 30 mph. No engine - no power steering. Hoping this doesn't happen on the highway. Engine also has a 'surge' to it at around 40 mph; not sure if the two are related.

Grand Caravan

My 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan began having issues about 6 months ago. The ABS light would light up and beep on and off and was taken to the dealership and they stated they could not determine the problem without it occuring at that time. As months went on the problem became worse. All the dashboard lights began turning on and off headlights would dimmer, clock and radio would shut off. Took to a few mechanics and none could determine the problem. The problem got worse battery light began staying lit. We then replaced the battery and the battery cables. The problems persisted, we took to another mechanic who stated the alternator needed to be replaced. We replaced the alternator and the vehicle was fine for three weeks, then the problem started again all the lights lit up, the air went in and out, the radio shut off and out of nowhere the car shut off while about to turn at an intersection with my children in the van. We have taken the vehicle to many different mechanics even the dealership and none of them can determine what is causing this issue. Through the internet I see that we are not alone with this problem. I don't know what to do besides attempt to get rid of the vehicle. This is the vehicle I bought to Transport my children; I've been paying for rental cars because I'm scared to drive it. With as many complaints as I've seen for this issue you would think there should be a recall. Someone is going to be seriously hurt or dead if they don't do something about this.

Grand Caravan

While operating vehicle the engine quits running and the vehicle becomes hard to handle as power steering and brakes become stiff. The only code that comes up is an ABS failure. Started about 6 months ago with an occasional happening now it has happened up to 3 times per day. Seems to happen at slower speeds when vehicle is in motion. City driving so far but concerned about safety of this continuing. Dealer seems to have no clue at this point or are just playing dumb because there are a lot of forums with people discussing this issue.

Driving at 10-20 mph, warning lights esp abr and tracing icon flash on and off before engine stalls, happens whether turning, or driving straight. Electrical system fails including power steering, radio flashes off, clock goes to 12:00. Often at speeds 35 -65 mph, same lights flash on and off 10 to 15 times in various distances of 3 miles - 25 miles before stalling, driving down a winding, mountain road in heavy traffic at night at speeds between 60-70mph, same lights flashed on and off, the speedometer needle instantly dropped down to zero then quickly flipped up to current speed each time lights flashed, then they stayed on while I pulled off the road, it stalled in park position. Starts up again without hesitation. Once I went 3 miles without incident, upon returning while at a stop light, same warning lights flashed, when the light turned green, engine stalled. I restarted the engine and I was able to proceed through the green light making a left turn, no other stall the rest of the way home. Regardless if I'm turning left or right, going up hill or down hill or on city street, whether the engine is cold or hot or temperature outside is hot, cold, or raining. It is random, having purchased this used vehicle only 4 months ago, driven less than 1000 miles, I don't feel safe as a female senior citizen traveling alone any distance in this vehicle, previous owner had the dealer replace fuel pump and computer (twice). I have replaced the 1 year old battery due to a hot to the touch cable to the battery, not generating the proper amount of power, also replaced the original computer with a new computer which did not resolve this issue. Numerous complaints were told a win or tipm module would fix this problem which it didn't. 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan recall: Ignition replacement. The ignition moves between 'accessories and on' causing engine to stall.

  • 58,500 miles
While driving the car, the engine shuts off unexpectedly and we lose power steering and brakes. We have to coast to a stop, put it back in park and restart engine and proceed. This happens with no predictability which makes this dangerous. The times that it has happened, the roads have been wet or snow covered. It has also happened on dry roads. Traveling at a high rate of speed makes this a dangerous circumstance. Since it is unpredictable, we are very nervous to take this car on a highway. We have had the car in to shapiro leon motor sales several times and they cannot find anything that comes up on their diagnostics.they did replace the powertrain control module. This did not make a difference. It continued to shut down. There is no rhyme or reason. They have driven it but it did not shut down for them. I got it inane shortly after leaving, it shut down. We know that there was a recall on the ignition switch through June 2010 but our car was manufactured Sept 2010. However all the symptoms that are listed on that recall fit our van's problem perfectly. The dealership does not agree a per their testing. This is not something that we can have happen to us while traveling 65 down the interstate. The only thing that shows up on the dash is the traction control when we lose engine power. Please address this problem.

While driving at low speeds (35mph or slower) the vehicle engine has stalled 5 times since July of 2016. The stalling issue happens during the first drive of the day. Happens within the first 3-4 miles of the drive been to the fca dealership twice unable to fix the problem. The power brakes and steering go out due to the engine stall. It has happened on straight roads and during curved roads. I'm able to put the vehicle in neutral and re-start the vehicle. There is no warning or indicator of the stall, only the increased effort to turn or stop the vehicle. Dates of occurrence: 7/16, 8/7, 8/20, 9/3 & 9/17.

While driving my car it just shuts off on me at random times. I never know when it is going to happen. It has happened 4 times in 2 week. I found a recall online for this same thing but my dealer is telling me they are VIN number specific and my VIN says there is no recall so they won't fix it. This is due to only Chrysler only covered up till June of 2010 model year and our van/VIN was made in July of 2010. Please help me get this fixed before I have an accident and injure myself or my family that is in the van most of the time or someone else. They need to extend the recall for all of 2010 model year, not just part of the year.

Van started and key stuck, then when the key get finally removed the engine stay on and won't shut off unless remove cables from battery. When the battery cables are connected again the engine start by itself without a key or the ignition is on without the key and the only way to shut off the van or to turn off the ignition is to disconnect the cables from the battery or it stays on or won't shut off. Running the battery out and your gas tank empty.

On April 17, driving at highway speeds the cruise control failed to cancel two separate times. Applying brakes also did not cancel the cruise control. Engine stalls while driving in motion-so far has only occurred while driving on city streets but is becoming more frequent.originally seemed to occur only when not fully warmed up but now is happening at regular operating temperatures also.it has happened both while making turns and while traveling in a straight line. I often don't notice it has occurred until I try to accelerate or turn and discover the loss of power steering and that the tachometer is on "O" rpms. It has become a regularly re-occurring annoyance and has obvious danger potential. I took the car to a dealership for the recall on the win module and was told that the brand of module that this vehicle contained was not the one they were having problems with and would therefore not replace it. They also claimed that the problem we were having was not related to that part. Checking online I find that I am far from the first owner of these vehicles experiencing this problem and that Chrysler Corp. Seems to be in denial of a problem and is at a loss as to correction of the problem. Please add my complaint to the growing list of unresolved complaints relating to this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving approximately 10 mph, a thumping noise was heard under the hood of the vehicle. As the contact continued to drive, the engine began to rev and the vehicle began to slow down and would not accelerate. The instrument panel lights began to flicker and smoke appeared under the hood and through the vents inside the vehicle. The vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the connecting rod fractured, there was a hole through the engine block, and the water and oil lines were severed. The vehicle was towed. The contact was unsure if a police report was filed. The contact's spouse, a certified mechanic, diagnosed that the connecting rod was fractured and blew a hole through the engine. The engine, motors, computer board, and brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 54,800.

  • 39,500 miles
We have a 2010 Dodge Caravan that was built in June of 2010. It has 39,711 miles on it and three times this week, 02/03&04/2016, the engine shut off inadvertently while my wife was driving it at speeds up to 40 mph. The power steering and power brakes did not work and she let it coast top a stop, while breaking, pulling over to the side of the road. This was on a state route she put it in park and the car started all three times. Two of these incidents happened while our 2 middle school children were in the car. I called the Chrysler complaint bureau and they checked my VIN number and told me my vehicle was not included in their recent recall involving their win ignition key fob problems even though our vehicle is experiencing the same engine shut down as in their recall. I had the car checked with a computer and there are no code problems with the vehicle. The dealer I went to told me our vehicle was manufactured 6 days out of the June 17th. 2010 recall date. On checking my sticker on the driver door, it only gives 06/2010 as a mfg date. In the interest of safety for my wife and children it will be costing me just over $600 to have this fixed with the same parts as in the recall. Its hard for me to believe that back in 2010 as Chrysler was using these defective parts that after June they quit using them since the recall didn't take effect till June 26, 2014.
