On 10/1/2014 I took my Grand Caravan into my Dodge deal for repair related to a recall notice (P25 / NHTSA 14V-234). The recall was about a fire hazard if a switch got wet. I was informed that due to a parts shortage they could only disconnect a switch at that time and that they could not replace the switch because of a parts shortage. That was over 2 months ago (67 days). Upon calling the deal this morning, I was informed that they still do not have the part (switch) and have no idea when they will get the part to make the repair. When I first was notified of this recall back in June or July of 2014, I was informed that there was a parts shortage, so I intentionally waited what I believed to be a reasonable period of time before I attempted to get this recall repaired. I have now received a second notice from Chrysler telling me to get it repaired. I can see no reason for the delay of parts for this repair. Respectfully, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).'

With no warning, I went out to start my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, and it turned over for about a second, then it was like someone turned off the power to the starter... it just quit! I tried and tried to start it, but all I get is one small click when I turn the key. I got online and did a search, only to find that this problem has been rampant for years now; and Chrysler apparently won't do anything about it. I am currently unemployed and need my van to look for work, and to get to work if I find a job. We are living on my wife's income right now, so I can't afford to put it in the shop, and the warranty has run out. It's only 2 years old... there's no way I should be having major problems this soon! I don't know what I'm going to do at this point, but I am furious after reading the horror stories people have posted, where some have spent $2000 - $3000 to get this fixed, and then the problem comes back!!!

Documented several times since 2013, this van has had problems with the following: Speedometer does not read, gauges do not read, windshield wipers turn on, all warning lights read, headlights do not work, A/C does not work; then all turn off randomly and intermittently turn back on and off again. In May 2014, the van had transmission issues where it would not shift out of low gear and driver had to twice shift into neutral and back into drive to shift properly. 6 repair attempts were made on the van beginning in May 2013 and ending in July 2013 with no success on repairs. The van was still under warranty so repair was free of charge. Replacement of the tipm was twice attempted but failed because of the faulty 2012 tipms. This van is used by rsvp, a federally funded nationwide non-profit, to Transport senior volunteers to their work sites. This van has the potential to put people into a dangerous crash and needs Chrysler to repair the tipms immediately.

While driving along the highway at night, I turned off the high beams because of an approaching car. The multifunction switch instantly failed; I was unable to activate the high beams again, my directional signals did not work and the windshield wipers began to wipe incessantly. I consider this to be a safety-related defect, because I could not signal my intentions to other drivers, nor could I use the high beams to improve visibility. On a two-year-old van with only 89,000 miles, this failure seems premature.

The vehicle will shutdown randomly with no indication as to why and/or will not start randomly due to antitheft being activated. The check engine light is not activated upon vehicle shutdown or failure to start. When the engine shuts off while driving the tachometer will reap about 900 RPM and the only indicator on the dash is a yellow traction control illumination on the dash. There is no check engine light, low oil pressure indication, or low battery indication. After a period of time from a few minutes to several hours the vehicle will restart and run normally. The vehicle may run normally for a few seconds to months at a time until the problem reappears. The problem can occur anytime while driving the vehicle including driving on the highway, intersections, parking lots, and expressways. When the vehicle stops running, the steering and braking become very difficult to operate.

This morning the first thing I noticed was that the cruise control would not work. This afternoon, I went to a local hardware store, purchased some items then went to my van. When opening the driver door, the driver side air bag deployed from the steering wheel. There is no sign of any damage to the outside of the car. I did notice that when I started the van the windshield wipers began but I could not stop them. When the wrecker came and the car was started, the wipers did not come on by them selves again glad that this did not happen when the car was moving..

All lights on the dashboard came on and the vehicle starting dinging. I pulled over, shut it off, saw no visible problems, tried to restart, & the vehicle would not respond to the fob. Had it towed, where they replaced the clock spring. Had the vehicle for 6 days when it did the same thing. I am now told that they have to replace the tipm module. This part is on backorder across the us. Everything I've read says it will be 3 mths or longer before the part is available. Chrysler is aware of the problem & a class action lawsuit has been filed. I am in a power wheelchair, and my van has been equipped with a wheelchair ramp, kneeling system, driver's transfer seat, and low effort steering. I now have to leave my van at the dealer until it is fixed because it's not safe to drive. The dealer provides a loaner but I am unable to Transport my power wheelchair. It weighs 360 lbs so it cannot be lifted into a vehicle. I work full time, and rely on my wheelchair to give me the stamina to make it through the day. This tipm module failure is now completely interfering with my life. I will have to make extra plans to get groceries, and to get to and from work. Chrysler needs to do something and admit their part is faulty, get them out to people who need them, and cover the cost. Once the tipm module is installed, the dealer will charge me another $550.
