The transmission disengaged at highway speed causing no power to be transmitted to the wheels. It rolled to a stop in a traveling lane causing an unsafe condition. There was no warning that this was about to happen. I have found that other vehicles of the same year, make, model, and build date range have been recalled for this same problem but mine failed without warning and was not covered by this recall. My vehicle only has 79,600 miles. Executive Dodge of Wallingford, CT has confirmed the problem. The transmission pump and torque converter failed.

Leaking oil from the motor oil housing filter. No warning signs. I noticed oil leaks under my van and took it to a mechanic and due to so much oil the initial thought was my transmission gasket was bad. I had my transmission serviced and that's when they found out it was the motor oil housing. Since this incident I have had to replace my window regulators and the radiator. So far my van has been in the shop 4 times this year. Parts are breaking down prematurely.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request" When the vehicle was shutoff and put in park, the vehicle rolled. The parking pawl did not properly engage due to debris being in the way. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This time the movement of the vehicle was detected before any harm transpired. So the parking break was engaged to prevent movement. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, Independent service center removed debris that prevented the parking pawl from engaging. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear" Failure happened without any warning or prior transmission problems. This is a family vehicle and I am deeply concerned that this vehicle may roll in park causing injury to children.

I noticed the transmission was hard going from reverse to drive. While driving with my daughter down the boulevard today the van transmission started whining and struggling. The car slowed down. Thank goodness I wasn't on the freeway. I got it home. While researching transmission problems with the Grand Caravan is read there is a recall on the transmission pump of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravans. My VIN is not included" How can this be" It is dangerous. All vans should be included if they have this problem. My minivan only has 70,000 miles on it. This year minivan has some major safety issues. I just had the minivan sliding door lock actuator replaced. Which they replaced because of a service bulletin on it.

My vehicle began shutting completely off while in drive and approaching a stop. This has endangered myself as well as my family due to the current condition and unpredictability of the engine turning off while approaching a stop light or stop sign. The vehicle has been inspected by a dodge service location and the check engine light does come on. Also included is a mopar warranty bulletin addressing the same issue with the same engine but on previous years (2011-2013) of the grand caravan and multiple models. I am experiencing the same conditions on a 2016 dodge grand caravan.

My transmission was damaged by a pothole and replaced with item R890720AG in September 2018. I was driving with my family and my transmission failed with code Po944 among other transmission failure codes; on Monday January 16, 2023. While driving on the freeway I heard a weird grinding noise. The vehicle suddenly without warning slowed down. No matter how much I pressed the gas it did nothing. I tried to pull over to avoid traffic. The vehicle kept at a slow pace. Finally as I approach the edge of the road it stopped. I had to then push it to safety and call for a tow. The code P0944 is the same code that is with the recall S44. I understand that my vehicle is not part of the recall S44 but it has the same issues. Since my current part is discontinued, did it cause the same issue since its now remanufactured with item number R890720AI? I am vey concerned that this could've been a dangerous situation. We almost died that day because the transmission went out with no warning. I went to the dealer and they are not helping with the situation. Why would a new transmission from September 2018 seize in January 2023. It just made 4 years old. I need help to understand what happened and how can this be solved. Please help make sure no one else gets hurt by this issue.

The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and codes P083B, P0868, P084B, and P0944 were retrieved. The mechanic determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train). The contact stated that the failure was reoccurring. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The contact stated that the transmission failed while on the road and required towing to the dealer. Since the cost of the repair was nearly equal to the value of the vehicle, the contact ended up trading it in.
