My transmission was damaged by a pothole and replaced with item R890720AG in September 2018. I was driving with my family and my transmission failed with code Po944 among other transmission failure codes; on Monday January 16, 2023. While driving on the freeway I heard a weird grinding noise. The vehicle suddenly without warning slowed down. No matter how much I pressed the gas it did nothing. I tried to pull over to avoid traffic. The vehicle kept at a slow pace. Finally as I approach the edge of the road it stopped. I had to then push it to safety and call for a tow. The code P0944 is the same code that is with the recall S44. I understand that my vehicle is not part of the recall S44 but it has the same issues. Since my current part is discontinued, did it cause the same issue since its now remanufactured with item number R890720AI? I am vey concerned that this could've been a dangerous situation. We almost died that day because the transmission went out with no warning. I went to the dealer and they are not helping with the situation. Why would a new transmission from September 2018 seize in January 2023. It just made 4 years old. I need help to understand what happened and how can this be solved. Please help make sure no one else gets hurt by this issue.

Grand Caravan 6-cyl

  • 50,000 miles
The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH and slowing for a traffic signal, the vehicle downshifted with an abnormal clunking sound. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal the RPM was fluctuating with an abnormal sound before the vehicle started to stall. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and codes P083B, P0868, P084B, and P0944 were retrieved. The mechanic determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train). The contact stated that the failure was reoccurring. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The contact stated that the transmission failed while on the road and required towing to the dealer. Since the cost of the repair was nearly equal to the value of the vehicle, the contact ended up trading it in.

I own two dodge caravans AVP package. at approximately 30K miles the transmissions on both vehicles failed. As per warranty Dodge replaced the transmissions with a remanufactured one for both vehicles. I was told yesterday that I was spilling/leaking some kind of oil. Today I brought it back to the shop and was told it was transmission oil. How do I protect myself from a faulty transmission if they are not even lasting 30K miles?

Vehicle lost power while driving. Wasn-??t responding to gas Pedal. Moved to a parking lot. Ultimately had to tow to a repair shop. First I thought maybe a belt but it came down to transmission issue. Mechanic diagnosed that transmission pump failed. Cost to replace the pump is more than $3100. There is a recall for same issue for same model year but I was told by the OEM that my vehicle is not included in the recall. I saw hundred of similar stories online for this issue but surprised that recall was issue for only few vehicles while the issue might be much bigger! I am the first owner and have completed all the required maintenance on time. Disappointed with vehicle OEM for refusing goodwill warranty!

My elderly mother drove into her bank ATM and put van in park. After finishing transaction, she proceeded to put van in drive mode. It would not go forward. She then had to put it into Reverse mode (which did work) and drive backwards, she ended up in the street with her hazard lights on. A police officer noticed she was in a predicament and instructed my mom to drive in reverse into the bank parking lot. If the officer would not have been there; it-??s possible she would have been in a wreck with another vehicle or building/structure. She van was towed by tow truck to her house. We are currently trying to get the van to the dealer to find out what happened. I have seen that her current model year for her van, have been recalls due to similar situations.

The transmission pump malfunctioned. It was causing the car to lunge forward while the foot was taken off the break slowly. Had to veer off the road to keep from hitting another car from behind as the car stalled. Waited for about 5 minutes and was able to drive for the same thing to happen again. I ended up having to leave the car and have it towed the next day. The car was inspected by Wayne and Daves who found there was a transmission pump failure. The car was driven to verify and was not able to drive as it continued with the same problem. Dodge Grand Caravans were recalled for that exact reason in 2016 but mine was not, although it was built in December of 2015. As of today, 8/3/2022 I have now replaced multiple parts on my vehicle for the code P0302. I replaced the #2 coil, spark plug for the code previously coming on in June. I now replaced the fuel injector and the manifold gasket but the car is still misfiring. If you do a search on this issue on the internet you will find multiple owners experiencing the same issue I am, do the same steps of repair and still coming up with the same issues after. Dodge has previously acknowledges an issues with the cylinder heads on the 2010 to 2013 models but have not added the newer ones which are obviously having the same issues costing owners extremely costly repairs.

Driving down the highway when steering locked up on a curve. Managed to get the car to the side of the road, but would only drive around 25 mph after that. Upon having a shop look at it they stated that the transmission pump went out. They said they can put transmission fluid in and it will drive fine for a bit, but because the pump is not working it will not work long term. An indicator light did come on a couple days prior.
