After starting car on the morning December 8,1999 I could smell gas fumes. I immediately shut car off and examined the engine. I noticed fuel leakage near the fuel injector rail. I proceeded to dealership (central Dodge in raynham) and purchased 6 new fuel injectors, assuming that was the problem and the least expensive. I replaced injectors that evening and still had fuel leaking. I had my wife come out and assist me by turning the key so I could see where leak was coming from. Almost immediately after stariting the car I saw fuel streaming from the left side of the fuel rail. A fire started and I immediately put it out. After going to same dealership to purchase fuel rail I was told about the recall. They towed the vehicle into their dealership and replaced entire fuel rail assembly at no cost to me. Then came the bad news; they contacted me and told me the engine was gone and they are claiming no responsibility because they said I cannot prove the fuel rail leak was the cause of the fire. So I am currently paying someone $3800. To replace the engine and I was hoping for your assistance in this matter. Where does the manufacturers responsibility end when it comes to a life safety issue such as this one?

The fuel riser on my 1995 Intrepid leaks gasoline onto the engine. Consumer checked the internet and found other owners as far back as 1993 having the same problem. It is definitely a design defect and a safety hazard. Yet, the manufacturer is not doing a recall and is charging 300-400 to repair the problem. A fire is inevidble so you don't have an option but to get it repaired or stop driving the car until you do so. I think the manufacturer needs to do a recall on this part and repair it for free before someone dies if it hasn't happened already.

I think that is enough to tell you this model has defects too many to mention. I think Dodge should allow some sort of renumeration on repairs or a nice reasonable discount on future purchases since this is my second Dodge.

My fuel injectors began leaking in November. The smell of gas is so bad that the car can only be driven with the windows down. It is a fire waiting to happen. I have taken it to the dealer twice with no satisfaction. I was told last week and again this week that the problem will be fixed under recall. The problem is that the dealers are unable to order the entire fuel rail to fix the problem. Instead they are to wait on a kit that can be used to fix fuel injectors. This kit is undoubtedly far cheaper for Chrysler. Two dealers told me today that if they even order the fuel rail, the oder will be denied. They have no idea when the kit will be available. So, I'm stuck with a potential bomb and no way to get it fixed. I realize that NHTSA is not an arbitration board, but thought you should be aware at how poorly Chrysler is responding to the recall. As you can tell from the mileage on my car, I rely on it for work. I am stuck with rental car charges until Chrysler decides to send the parts to the dealer.

Strong smell of fuel inside passenger compartment and on outside of vehicle. Next day 12-30-98, we started car and looked under front end. It was pouring fuel onto ground. Dealership has said that it will be several weeks to get parts. However we are not going to drive this vehicle until fixed because of extreme fear of fire. Dealership refuses to provide another vehicle to use in the meantime. Very disappointed in service!

On the morning of December 2, 1997 when my family and I were in the car in the driveway of our home, as I started the car a flame shoot out from under the hood. My family jumped out of the car as I popped the hood and the engine was ablaze. We quickly called the antelope fire department, which came and put the fire out. Autowest Dodge site the cause of the fire to be a broken fuel rail and worn ignition parts.
