I have a 1998 Dodge Intrepid, and it already needs an engine after only 65,000 miles of service. The car has been in this condition since February 2002, when it began running hot. The Chrysler dealer said that it needed an engine and also cooling fan components. This car is less than five years old and less then 65,000 miles, there is no reason that a well made car should need an engine at this point. From just the complaints on NHTSA's site of other consumer complaints with the same problem, the engine should be recalled, and fixed by Chrysler.

I have a 1998 Dodge Intrepid with only 77,000 miles on it and I just found out that I will need a new engine. Nobody is willing to help me and its really sad when Dodge/Chrysler does not want to own up to there wrong doings... I found out that there are many more like me. Please help me bring them too justice !!! a recall needs too be made on these vehicles. I don't even own mine and my choices are you either fix it or let them repo. It. I am a single parent and I just can't afford a $400 a month payment and over $5,000 in repairs...what should I do ? I kept all the maintenance up on this vehicle. I am really confused.

February 10, 2003- diagnosis bad valve guides car blowing smoke from the exhaust. 1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 liter engine. March 10,2003-engine was making a clicking(ticking noise) has around 84,900 miles on it. The motor died. Diagnosis by mechanic was the whole engine needs to be replaced. Cost is $4500. Will happen again. Because mechanics are saying all these 2.7 liter engines by Chrysler blow around 80,000+ miles. Motor died from engine sludge, even though oil changes were all up to date. The car is worth $3500 with a good engine. To get another engine is $4500 and up. The loan on the car is for $10,000 and extended warranty will not touch it.

I have a 98 Dodge Intrepid, and the engine went(at 83,000 miles) at no warning, after doing a lot of research there are other customers in the same position. I am out of a car, that I cannot drive, and still have to make payments on cause I cannot afford to pay for the repair. There is no reason why this engine should fail at 83,000 miles. Please help!!!!!!!

1998 Dodge Intrepid just reached 87,000. The 2.7 engine needs to be replaced. This car has been advertised not to need its first tune-up until 100,000. However, we have provided regular maintenance. We have done a little research and have found hundreds of complaints for the same thing. Shouldn't the manufacturer be held accountable for such a problem that is vastly widespread?

My engine started making a awful tapping noise 3 blocks away from home. Got home, towed my car to my mechanic and he proceded to tell me I had blown the engine in my car. My mechanic dicussed my problem with other mechanics and the told him that the 2.7 lit engine in the Intrepid has been nothing but problems for most Intrepid owners. My car was full of oil and I always followed the service schuedule. Right now I am rebuilding the engine that has a bad bearing, has a cracked cam shaft and also threw a piston. The rebuilder has no explination as to what went wrong but that he works on these engines more than he should because they are so new. By the way my car has 80,000 miles on it and did'nt make a sound until this hapened.

While in motion, the crankshaft broke in the engine. Consumer contacted the Chrysler Corp. But the only response to consumer was that it was normal for a crankshaft to break in an engine. Consumer checked with a few mechanics who claimed otherwise. The mechanics feel the crankshaft is the last thing to go in the engine. Cosumer contacted a business about an engine and was informed that there were four other phone calls about engines for the same year make and model. Consumer believes that there is a manufacturing defect in the engine.
