When filling up with gas, instead of the pump shutting off the flow of gas, a gush of gas comes flowing out and over the side of the vehicle onto the ground. (I would say at least a 2 cups of gas.) I originally thought it was the pumps fault until it happened two more times at different stations. I am over the three year warranty (however, way under the mileage) and when I called a Chrysler dealership. They will not accept as a warranty issue. I brought up the fact that many people have been experiencing this and I am very surprised that Chrysler has not issued a recall. They sugguested I call Chrysler and deal with them directly and gave me an 800 number. (which I have been on hold for the past 15 minutes!)

My last 3 or so gas fill ups have resulted in gasoline gushing out of gas tank upon the gas nozzle shutting itself off. The first couple of times I didn't think much of it but this last time I was holding the gas nozzle when this happened and before I knew it I was soaked in gasoline. This seems like a huge concern along the lines of the old GMC gas tanks that would explode upon an accident.

Splash back of gasoline when filling up fuel tank. Incident occurs just about every time tank is filled and the consequences are that a large amount of gasoline shoots back out of the filling nozzle all over the painted surface of the vehicle and on to the surface of the area in which parked. In addition to aggravation, environmental damage, paint damage, there are extremely dangerous consequences that could occur if some sort of an ignition source occurred at the time it happened.

The gas tank overflows when filling. The auto shutoff on the gas tank is faulty, this is a problem with the same year Jeep Liberty with the same tank. The 20" chrome wheels flake and corrode even when kept clean and out of the elements. This must be fixed!

When I fill up my tank at any gas station, I will put the gas nozzle in the gas filler neck, and have it fill up. When the gas tank reaches it's maximum level, the gas nozzle will automatically 'click' off, however, the gas will overflow out the gas filler neck and spray out all over the ground and down the car, I'm thinking that something so flammable as gasoline spraying out and dripping on the ground and down the car is a huge fire risk....am I wrong?

With every fuel fill up I attempt, upon completion when the fuel pump shuts off and stops pumping the vehicle 'spits up' fuel spewing it on the car and ground. I have found no way to avoid this, even pumping slower or attempting to pull the nozzle out at the end quickly or leaving it in to block spewage. It is hazardous, messy, and not to mention annoying. I don't know why there has been no recall for this issue, as I've seen multiple Dodge vehicles and complaints about the exact same thing happening everywhere to everyone.

Every time I fill up my Dodge Nitro fuel overflows from the tank in upwards to half a gallon. It seems to not matter whether I set the pump on low, high or fill up manually, fuel overflows from the nozzle of the tank, after pump has shut off)...once soaking my pants in gas. The issue has happened multiple times at multiple gas stations. This is an environmental problem, it's a personal danger, and a danger to others. I bought the vehicle used, and have no knowledge that this has been an issue prior to me purchasing, however, based on how many times it has happened to me I can most likely assume it was. When doing research on the issue I have discovered that I am not the only person having this exact problem. Seems as though Jeep and Dodge are having these issues. A recall needs to be enforced on this.

2008 Dodge notre fuel tank overflow problem. Pump would click and fueling would stop as normal, but gas would shoot out the side of the gas pump just past the handle at the rubber gasket before the nozzle. This was a consistent thing. Cars ahead of me at the pump would have no issues and it didn't matter which pump I went to the result was the same.

I purchased the Nitro in Oct. 08, ever since then, when I fill up the gas tank it would explode out of the tank, at first we thought it was the gas pumps, but just decided it was the car at fault, because I have been traveling out of town to get gas, so I called Dodge to see if there were any recalls and there were not any recalls, so they told me to take it to a dealer and they knew exactly what the problem was. We needed to replace the gas tank. So my point is, Dodge needs to recall this issue for a defective gas tank. Also I found pages of the same problem on the internet.. so please I can not afford to fix the issue myself.

At lease three times at three locations my gas tank would overflow when filling up. I've had to notify attendant at gas station to spray over flow area with flame retardant chemicals. When I fill my gas tank, the gas will shoot out as the tank gets full. The pump will shut off, but the fuel continues to shoot out the tube and all over the side of the car and anyone standing there. This has happened multiple times and is a dangerous problem to have. I do not like being doused with fuel or having fuel spraying onto the ground and surroundings. The Jeep Liberty had the same issue and it was recalled but for some reason, the Dodge Nitro has not been, which has the same tank.

When filling up the gas tank of my 2007 Dodge Nitro, when reaching full and the pump automatically turns off several cups of fuel come back out the filler location and spray over the side of the car, ground, pump, and anybody standing nearby. It has happened at several gas pumps and stations. Upon doing research on the internet it appears that it is a problem with the vent in the gas tank. This is a serious safety hazard, which could lead to both a fire at the gas station, and from what I have read a significant risk of explosion if involved in a rollover accident.
