The dash on my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 is cracked. It has progressively gotten larger. I vehicle is kept in a garage so there is no sun damage. I can hear it vibrate sometimes. The dealer was informed about this problem two years ago and they said it was normal wear and tear. I don't believe I should be responsible for something that is not normal wear and tear.

The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram. Three years ago, the contact noticed a crack on the dashboard. Currently, the crack has spread so far that the dashboard is completely damaged and coming apart. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that there was a recall ; however, her vehicle was not included. The contact stated that the cruise control sporadically disengages while driving. She further stated that the speed control switch took a long time to activate. The consumer stated broken pieces from the dashboard can injure or kill someone. The powertrain, recall number, and speed were unknown. The failure mileage was 87,000 and current mileage was 140,000. Updated 01/03/08. Updated 12/31/07

My dashboard in my 2001 2500 Dodge Ram pickup truck began to crack. This crack continued to grow until finally large chunks just collapsed into the inside of the dash. I keep my truck garaged most of the time so this really shocked me. I worry about pieces falling inside that may cause other problems.

Dashboard started cracking in April 07, now it is actually breaking apart. Wiring is now exposed to sunlight. There are large holes forming in the dash. Gets worse everyday. Now is breaking apart near passenger airbag area. Numerous complaints on the web for this problem. Could lead to safety problems with wiring exposed. Truck only has 65K miles on it.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500, and my dash is falling in. My dash started cracking several months ago and has recently started falling to pieces which are being lost inside the dash. When I googled a replacement dash I found countless others who are having the exact same problem. Local 6 news out of Florida did a story on this problem and even has a report of the falling debris cutting into the wiring causing the headlights to turn off while driving at night. I have not contacted Dodge directly. I did go to the dealership and all they offered was to sell me a new dash at appx. $500. When I googled this problem, several of the people who had complained to Dodge were given the same form letter telling them in short that this was not a common problem resulting in a recall and that there was nothing that they could do. I am only one of several people across the country who are looking for Dodge to correct a problem they have given us that is not only cosmetic. I find it hard to believe this is being overlooked and viewed as cosmetic. There is a safety issue of broken pieces of dash board falling in and cutting wires, exposed jagged edges of plastic, brittle plastic parts flying around in the cab of the truck during the event of an accident, and also pieces being propelled at the driver and all passengers in the event of an air bag deployment. We are looking for Dodge to rectify this problem and admit that there is an issue with them purchasing sub-par materials.

2001 Dodge Ram 2500 dashboard cracking. Tv investigation slot shown on internet. My vehicle has the same problem - purchased new dashboard panel from Dodge dealer $200. In the past year have front axle seals, water pump, power steering pump, fuel injection pump and automatic transmission failed. Repaired over $ 6400 in expense - the dash problem broke the monkey's back.

I went out to my truck the other day and noticed a large crack in the dashboard. I know that there were countless people with the same problem as myself. This problem could potentailly cause a problem with the airbag system. In an accident, the airbag could be ripped by the failing dashboard as it deployed.

The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram. The contact stated that the vehicle's dashboard began to crack and pieces are falling down into the instrument panel. He has written letters to the attorney general's office, the better business bureau, and daimler Chrysler. No one has responded as of yet. This failure has been ongoing since January of 2004. The contact stated that the vehicle was still under the original warranty when the failure first began. The failure still persists. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 91,000 and failure mileage was 36,000. The consumer stated the vehicle was taken to power Dodge for repairs. The consumer stated the dealer will provide a copy of repairs.
