Edge

  • 130,000 miles
We have a 2007 Ford Edge my wife was driving on the freeway, she was approaching her exit when the vehicle shut off completely. Thank god she could pull over and after several attempts to start the car again, she succeeded. This happened about 6 months ago. About 3 or 4 months later, she was pulling into a parking lot of a store when the vehicle shut off again without a warning. She got stuck in the middle of the lane blocking all traffic. A few minutes later it started again seemingly without any problem. Until two weeks ago, she was driving down the street and the car shut off for the third time. And for the last week, the car has problems starting. It cranks for a few seconds like it has no fuel then starts. Today's date 9/3/2018

Edge

  • 145,000 miles
2007 Ford Edge. History: Regular scheduled maintenance performed always, garage kept, taken well care of. Mileage at this time is 145K. ***driving along (in town) when I noticed the Edge was idling really low (note: 2 weeks after scheduled oil change, inspection and new battery)-all of a sudden heard this terrible clanking noise. It sounded like the whole car was falling apart. I pulled over in to a parking lot, shut the car off. Tried to crank it again and it wouldn't crank-finally did after several tries (still making this terrible sound). * warning lights, no fluctuating in gages---nothing. We had the Edge towed to our Ford dealership and were told the water pump went bad and the engine was destroyed. Our oil was full of water/coolant--it looked like muddy water. What" how? no warning, no signs" after much research we are finding that the water pump is inside the engine, therefore if the water pump "goes" there are no external signs of leakage---it's kindly leaking in to your engine and destroying it. This literally happened in a matter of minutes. Yes, this is safety issue--it left me stranded and now I'm without a vehicle for another week or so while a new engine is being ordered an installed. I can't believe Ford hasn't addressed this "design" issue with all the complaints I've read thus far. This deserves a recall and at the very least it deserves Ford's attention to be redesigned. Research also shows this is not just a Ford Edge problem---it's other Ford makes as well. This is now an $8000 "fix". please have this looked in to on the consumer's behalf.

Driving car on city streets and all of sudden the wrench light, low tire light and airbag light came on then the became sluggish as if it was going to cut off. The car was hard to pull to the side of the road. The it makes a hard thug/grinding noise when putting in gear. Ford states it needs a oss (output speed sensor).

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds, the vehicle hard shifted. The contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward while stationary and suffered a loss of power or engine stalling on more than one occasion. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the power control module and the ignition coils failed and caused a cylinder misfire. In addition, the ignition coils melted. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

My wife was driving with our two children on our road (a busy one) and the engine just stopped. She had to pull over with cars zooming by her and shut off the car and turned it back on. Engine light was flashing, go to find out the coils and PCM just went out. Looked online and a lot of people have the same problem.

No one has parts to fix the recall for the airbag. I've been waiting for more than a year to have the problem fixed. My transmission shudders at 40 miles per hour and 75 miles per hour. The problem started 10 months ago and seems to be worse. I've looked online and this seems to be the major complaint with these vehicles. There should be a recall on this issue to fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. While the vehicle was stationary, the stock transfer case on the vehicle wore out. Due to the transfer case wearing out, which sent power from the transmission to the four wheels, the vehicle made a loud grinding noise when driven at various speeds. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Ford dealer has my 2007 Ford Edge due to it stalling out while driving 60 mph on a highway causing my engine to die so I had to get towed home and off of the highway. The dealer originally thought it was the electronic throttle body but they have now determined that was not the problem. Instead it is the PCM which is costing me over $1500, if that even fixes this. Plus I have been paying for a rental car because the dealers don't have free loaner vehicles. So this whole thing is going to cost me about $2000. Now I have been researching this problem, and can clearly tell this is not normal wear and tear instead it is a faulty part that so many other owners are experiencing. I clearly see Ford has been made aware of this problem and they should be taking responsibility for their mistake. Ford has refused to issue a recall on this problem even though it is very dangerous and costly for the vehicle owner. I have never owned a Ford before and likely will not again because of this bad experience.

I was exiting the freeway, slowing down on the ramp, and I lost complete loss of acceleration as I came to a stop at the light. Up on green signal, even with pushing of the gas pedal, my car did not accelerate. And in a few seconds, the transmission engaged violently with a huge noise and led to sudden acceleration, followed by loss of acceleration again. I tried pushing the pedal one more time but realized that there was no acceleration. I then stopped and got my vehicle towed to a Ford dealership and their finding is that the transmission needs to be replaced completely.

Persistent smell when driving and then found dark "oil" spots that spread throughout under side of the vehicle and on my garage floor after being parked. Brought to Ford dealership: Ptu failure is what we are being told. Very costly repair/replacement charge of ptu assembly, approximately $1500. I'm putting in this complaint because I have seen many, many complaints of other people experiencing similar issue with this make, model and year. Please consider investigating, and if this happened to someone else please put in your complaint so it will go to investigation, thank you!

  • 96,987 miles
I was driving down the interstate when I suddenly lost power. I managed to somehow get my car off the road and exit the highway (I was just about to the exit when this happened). It was looked at by a Ford dealer who said the PCM died and took out at least three coil packs. Told me if I drove it any further it would likely catch fire. Up to this point I hadn't had any problems with this car. It was running fine. This all happened so quickly and in such a dangerous location that it could have caused an accident. Upon researching places to fix the issue, I noticed a rather large amount of complaints about this same issue and this same make model and car year. Each complaint said this happened on the freeway.

While driving on a freeway suddenly a pungent smell filled the cabin and that was unbearable along with a huge cracking sound that didn't stop... took the next exit and stopped at a parking spot. Took to the Ford dealer the same day and they diagnosed immediately that the ptu needs to be replaced and that's a know issue where almost all the Ford Edges of 2007 and 08 have the ptu issue. The smell is from the oil that leaked from the ptu which fell on the exhaust. Paid around $1800 to replace the ptu. I am wondering why there is no recall as it seem to happen for most of the Edges. Called the Ford corporate customer care to report the issue and they didn't care to listen and asked to deal with the local dealers. Didn't expect this from Ford and I would request NHTSA ODI team to look into this issue and flag this as recall as this could create a serious crash when it happens on a freeway as it could slow down the vehicle suddenly and think about the condition of the infants who could inhale the gases. I literally had issue inhaling for next couple of days as the smell was that bad when it leaked.
