While driving on a city street and on a state road transmission will act and sound like it is slipping or not engaging in gear and sometimes will only work in reverse.when problem occurs vehicle will lose all power and engine will rev up but vehicle will not move. I have had it towed to dealer and have taken it in to dealer, they say they cannot duplicate the the problem. They also told me that when it happens I need to pull over somewhere safe and shut the car off and let the "computer/ sensors " reset and that will "take care" of the problem. The problem is getting progressively worse as time goes on. I am afraid if this happens in traffic someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed as there is no power to get off the road and out of traffic

At 60,000 miles transmission slipping. At 92,000 miles not engaging between 3rd and 4th gear. Cost to fix $3,000. At 65,000, water leaking front of on passenger side, spraying at times. Also fluild leaking on ground. Ford fixed. At 62,000 miles, heater went out. At 86,000 A/C went out. Cost to repair $2,800. At 84,000 miles ring broke on "boot". cost to repair $350. At 91,000 miles ignition switch replaced. Ckeck engine stays on. Vehicle "clicks" and then dies. Biggest problem is when car will not start when, and when car refuses to get in gear when turning left.

I was traveling around 40 mph on a state highway when sputtering and vibration issues started with 2007 Ford Edge and check engine light came on. Still drove vehicle to my mechanic which stated coil burned out and sent surge of power to the PCM. Mechanic stated design of PCM wouldn't stop the firing of coil and not to drive vehicle any further or it will burn to the ground. Mechanic stated only the Ford dealership can install a new one and rest the car to get it running. Towed vehicle to Ford dealership who stated they have a tsb issued for this problem and they will need to replace the PCM and all 6 coils because they have all melted. Ford dealership stated this was an on going problem due to a faulty design of the PCM that when a coil burns out (common wear and tear and $100 to $200 fix) the PCM doesn't stop firing to the coils which could cause the car to catch fire. Estimate to fix the PCM and all six coils was $2,958. Reason for complaint - I understand wear and tear on a vehicle, but due to a design issue in the Ford/Mercury/Lincoln PCM, it caused extensive damage and repair to the car and potential to burn to the ground. $100 fix with proper design and now $2,958 due to PCM issue. I am requesting this issue to be reviewed for reimbursement by the manufacturer or recall issued. Thanks you for your time.

Since I purchased vehicle, will be driving and all of a sudden no power, car does not die out. It is still running, but you cannot go anywhere, wrench light comes on. It's done it at random, deal never finds issue. It is now happening every day and will throw a throttle body code, same issue as with other Ford. Complaints are all over the internet, dealership has told me they've seen it with almost all Ford Edges. It is the throttle body needing to be recalled. There is a Ford tsb on other models of Ford with the same exact issue. This can cause a fatal accident as the car just stops accelerating so it slows down quickly. The only resolution is to shut it off and restart it. This also clears the code so that's why it's hard to troubleshoot at the dealer. Ford needs to step up and do something before someone is killed. I just don't drive on the highway any longer because I'm afraid of being rear ended at high speeds because of negligence on Ford's part.

Driving at 55mph in heavy traffice vehicle all of a sudden lost power and pressing the gas pedal did nothing. Car jerked and shuddered and was like it was in neutral. Almost caused a serious collision. Turned car off and T he back on and was bale to go as long as I stayed under 30mph. Vehicle would sporadically "rev" up when I pressed the gas but would not have extra power. Had transmission fluid checked, level was perfect. Left the service shop and was stopped at a red light and went to accelerate and it acted as if it were in neutral again, in the middle of a busy road. Had to have sheriff's department redirect traffic due to my car blocking 2 lanes. Had to be towed away.

And it is a very common happening with this vehicle. With the vehicle shutting down without any indication that it is about to happen. This happens at highway speeds as well as in town speeds. Generally, shortly after starting the vehicle sometimes I would come to a stop, and when I attempted to go the engine would rev but the car would not move. It was like it was in neutral, and there is an orange wrench that lights up on my dashboard. When placing the car back into park there would be a hard shift on the engine. After turning the car off for a few seconds and restarting, it would work like normal. It does it very sporadically, sometimes once every couple months sometimes a couple times a week. It seems very random. Today it did it to me while I was driving down the road at 40mph. It was the first time it had done this while I was driving. When it happened there was a sputter from the engine, like a hard shift, and then I noticed the orange wrench light came on and it felt like it was in neutral. I have taken it to get checked but the mechanics cannot duplicate the problem and there are no error codes that come up. My research online says that it seems to be a common problem with the power transfer units seals leaking, but I would think that problem would cause the car to not work when restarted. Not to mention the other symptoms of a leak, including smell, are not present. The other solution commonly mentioned is replacing sensors, but then a lot of those reviews say they end up replacing so many sensors and then it still happens.

A few weeks ago, I noticed there was a noise coming from somewhere that sounded like a wheel bearing, I took it to a few places to have it checked out. They came up with different things, finally I got to the right place and they figured out that it was the ptu. They said the seal had leaked all the oil out and destroyed the bearings. You don't know the oil is leaking out as it goes into the exhaust and evaporates. They were able to find me a used one that they went through and found it to be good. Cost was $1,800 to replace. As I understand, Ford has covered up this problem for many years. I have seen many similar problems in the complaint section for Edges and nothing has been done. I think Ford should be made to re-imburst all complaints with this problem. I am on a fixed income an this unexpected expense kept us from our vacation to visit our family in Pennsylvania and I am very upset.

Highway speed the car suddenly slowed down. Speedometer dropped to zero, information panel went blank, powertrain malfunction/reduced power light came on, airbag front light came on. Pulled car to shoulder as soon as possible and shut key off. Restarted car and everything appeared normal except car had very little power to move until about 10 mph was reached when a hard transmission shift put car into gear and all became fully operational. This happened three times in a one week period of time, always at highway speeds. Subsequent research by independent mechanic indicated this a common problem requiring replacement of two speed sensors in transmission at cost of $629.

I filed the original complaint (10680995) on February 3rd, but I wanted to edit or update it, but couldn't find the way, so I am taking the Liberty to post a new one. It has been 2 and a half months since the incident and as a disgrace it has not been possible for the Ford dealer in central America to get the computer module part. Can you imagine this amount of time without your vehicle, specially if it is your working tool? the following was my statement in the first report: "I have a 2007 Ford Edge with very low mileage to date. This is usually my family car, driven by my wife. We live in guatemala and drove to a house on the beach, that is about 100 miles away. On January first when we were returning I started the car and noticed a shake and sputter, and I thought that it was probably a defective spark plug. I managed to drive out of where we were and as soon as we got to the main highway I had to stop and call for a tow. The shaking and sputtering were frightening. The shop I took it to says that at least 3 ignition coils need to be replaced and are not sure if the PCM also has to be replaced. Unfortunately, since there are parts stock problem here, I had to wait almost a month to get the parts and now that I have them (the coils) I still have to wait to see what the real problem is. I have contacted the dealer in the region to see what can be done. I had to report this as it is not a unique problem tobuyers in the us, also abroad". so far, I do not know when the part will be available. Last Friday it was still in backorder in the Ford plant, or so they say. I dont know either how much is going to cost, but at this rate I just want to get rid of that piece of junk. I have provided a Florida contact as there is no access to other countries.

I notice oil leaking I put on jack stands to examine so I did some research and I have what's called the ptu which is part of the transfer case for the AWD it appears there is an inner seal and outer seal. It looks like it's the outer seal leaking from the ptu the side that the cv axle is on connected to passenger tire. I called Ford and they want 1200-1500 dollars to fix a seal that's not recalled. It's known to be happening to all Ford Edges I have no warranty on the vehicle which makes it harder to afford to pay for the repair.
